Getting your music uploaded to spotify gives you the opportunity to sell your music and make money from streaming revenue. Although the money is limited on spotify streaming it still does provide you a revenue channel that could pay dividends especially if you can get your music on some big spotify playlists so I do recommend that you upload your music to spotify. Very good. This has made me realise there is no better platform to release any music on than TH-cam. It's simple as. Spotify makes it basically impossible.

there are a whole bunch of songs I like, most of which aren't on Spotify, mainly because they aren't composed by official artists nor are they popular at all, less than 10's of people listening to the music 🙂so I have to listen to it either on youtube or on some never-heard-of sites

You can also use digital distributors, they'll take some of your spotify royalties but they're not a label.

sarkar already answered the first two questions, but for the third one, absolutely any sort of piece of work uploaded publicly is protected by copyright. unless you specifically say so otherwise or there is some clause in the terms and conditions of the distributor that says that you lose copyright/ownership of the work, you are automatically protected by copyright. as long as you have proof its yours you can also sue other people for going against your copyrighted work if you feel like doing so
Got a question about YT ad sense. Having just placed my first track on Distrokid, one of the questions was about YT music. It said you can't use music for YT distribution if any of the sounds were someone elses' including sounds in Logic or Garageband or sample libraries! how on Earth do solo artists get around this? Surely most productions use sounds from sample libraries?

It’s less complicated then it seems I promise. It costs about 10 bucks a single or 20 bucks a year. Depending on which distributor you go with.

welp, i searched a song that isnt on Spotify so I wanted to try and upload it myself but it seems like it is waayyyy harder than it is - < -
It really isn't that hard, use united masters. Its free and its in the app store, play store and its a website too. Unitedmasters allows you to keep your masters and they pay you but they own 10% of your payments. Unitedmaster has a subscription (Unitedmasters Select) and it allows you to keep 100% of your money and you can get your music in the NBA, video games, tv shows etc for $60 a year.
