I started watching your channel in 2020 as a pandemic fanboy because I wanted to become a woodworker, but I kept seeing all the channels with decked out shops and gnarly machines. By 2021 I was soooo tired of working on the ground and tweaking stuff to get by, that I stopped all woodworking to focus my attention on acquiring machines. Rescued an 8 inch PM jointer from a dump haul. Been restoring a 10inch Walker-Turner table saw on my channel, and scrounging anything I can find just to get a "shop" built up in my garage, so I can be a real woodworker. This video and the recent workbench out of a truck video make me remember why I wanted to woodwork in the first place. Nostalgia.

Old video, but great timing for me though. It’s wonderful and reinvigorating to be reassured that I don’t have to wait to get the table saw, radial arm saw, etc to get started. What a beautiful, elegant first project that is so simple. Thank you.

I like how you kept the design simple enough to two basic power tools and then made it fancy with different color stains
After you have a few more videos of two power tool projects, you should make a playlist

That is a VERY nice build! I love the fact you showed how you don't need specialty tools and how simple of a process it is with some basic skills to get someone to do the work. No fancy joinery or cuts and SOOOOOO many options for colors, wood selection and size. GREAT JOB!

I have used those 2x2 s before. The nice thing about them if you pick through them you can usually find ones that are rift sawn (the end grain runs from corner to corner). The advantage is you get straight grain on all four sides.

You can also chain clamps, clamping clamps to clamps to get more length and do a long project if you only have 6-12 in clamps.
It is a giant pain & really finicky, but I definitely did it a few times early on.

Loved this video. Can u do one making a food tray and a cutting board. All the videos I see are with ppl using all the fancy equipment. I’ve never built anything except for a desk I bought from the store to put together lol so I’m trying to get into woodworking and I don’t have all of that fancy equipment. I would like to do this table and the food tray and cutting board

Thanks for sharing this project. I appreciate your videos along this line, they inspire us to start making things. I have been following you from my main ID for years now (since you were the drunken woodworker), I'm commenting from this ID due to my line of work where we have to keep our internet activity anonymous. Anyway, I digress, all I wanted to say was thanks for these videos, I realized today how much you have taught me and just wanted to say a big thank you. I'm doubtful I will ever be able to ditch programming and move to woodwork like you did, but you always instill confidence that I can accomplish more weekend projects with the tools I already own, which are a circular saw and a drill driver. Cheers Dave, keep up the awesome work! Edit: you've sold me on using bright colours in furniture with this build, never thought I would like it, but this turned out awesome!

One other way to work around not having long clamps: wedges! Clamp scraps of wood near each end of the workpiece, then use wedges between the scrap and the workpiece to push things in tightly. I've used this technique when glueing up table tops.
