I was lucky enough to see this lineup of the mamas and papas twice and Mackenzie Phillips was great, she even sang lead on a song and did an excellent job. Spanky was great giving the audience a feeling that Cass was present
I'm so glad to see and hear this clip. I don't know if anyone can buy a nice studio recording of this group, so this is at least something. I've been curious a long time to see and hear what they sounded like. I don't know right off how well Mackenzie Phillips could sing in a prepared studio setting, but the Scott Mackenzie that she was named after and sang in the Journeymen with John, Spanky who sang with Spanky and Our Gang ("Sunday Will Never Be the Same" etc.) and of course John are great
Just read "High on Arrival" there were times when John and Mackenzie were so wasted on stage that the audience would boo them and ask for their money back.
Personally, as a long-time, avid fan of the original M&P, I find this new lineup's treatment of the original one's music scathingly awful. Always have. That being said, a couple of years ago, recordings of original material they had recorded surfaced for the first time and I have to say, I was beyond pleasantly surprised and would highly recommend checking out this "Many Mamas, Many Papas" release.
Eran Edry Hi Eran (Bob here)! While I think some of their performances of original material is dicey at best, sometimes they do justice the songs. In this clip, in my opinion, they do a respectable job. It took me some time to warm up to the Many Mamas, Many Papas material. I can see why no record company at the time was jumping out to sign them, since they were so out of fashion. Besides the new New Mamas & Papas studio recordings, there are some nice live performances of that material. I made a live album (from several different shows) of all the new songs they performed, which I really enjoy. Given your depth of knowledge, you may know of other new/performed songs that I overlooked. 1. Mr. Blue 2. Three Little Babies 3. Not Too Cool 4. The French Man 5. The Penthouse in Your Mind 6. Wilderness of Love 7. I Wish 8. Flowers 9. Love Song 10. Mr. Chow
The only "bad" thing about this video is the sound. Take a look at any audience recorded clip on TH-cam and the sound is appalling. If voices and instruments had been coming from the mixing desk, then we can judge their performance; otherwise any criticism is pointless.

Thank you for posting this! It doesnt deserve all the thumbs down.

They toured the world for years with this act. The original recordings are beautiful. Righteous of you to judge.
Thanks for the tip Bill. I've ordered one now!
It's always hard to live up to the pass! Love seeing Phillips family etc.
Mackenzie looks and sounds awesome!

That’s the part I came here for. :(
i love mackenzie
How did the drummer of Blue Oyster Cult wind up here?
cool to see this lineup because there aren't that many clips
Look for the John Phillips CD "Many Mamas, Many Papas" for studio and live recordings with Spanky, Mackenzie and Scott.
To the haters: Why don't you open a vein for us, and drain that vile putrescence that flows from the shriveled potato you think of as your heart?
John ans Scott perfect combination
What is so bad about this? I really like it. What else should people like Scott Mckenzie and John Phillips do other than touring and making music?
Trying to live on someone elses past glories, very sad,Papa John Phillips excepted of course.
high as a kite but without the grace
The guitar player (2:56) is very good though.

Where is that album available? I couldn't even find a photo of it online
...Except MacKenzie Phillips wasn't actually named after Scott...
@Spiders From mars Read her autobiography. That's where I got my information.
@Spiders From mars Lol... Okay then! You adjust your tinfoil hat and have a good day.
