Eddie was interviewed in Amsterdam, and stated, he wrote 'Yellow Ledbetter' when he was plastered. So he said the words change with each performance, since he dosen't actually remember the original lyrics. It all depends upon his mood. So according to Eddie, there's no actual "lyrics" to the song, either right or wrong. It's improvised for each performance. I've seen PJ in concert 14 times and each time, the lyrics are switched up. But, regardless of what comes out of Eddie's mouth, the song is absolutely amazing.
I'm orginally from WA (Western Australia). I was forunate enough to see PJ when they toured across OZ, on they're Oceanic Tour. I saw them in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, as well as Auckland, New Zealand. I've also seen them at several shows in Europe. Eddie is actually going to be touring Australia, performing solo, starting on February 7th, in Perth, already got my tickets :) for the Riverside Theatre.
I read a Playboy article in the 70s with John Lennon and he says most of the songs have no meaning cuz they were high. He says just a song. Nothing more. Don't thik less of him.
In my humble opinion,no one gets close to this band,so many masterpieces.Thank you Pearl Jam for helping me get thru all the shit life throws at you.peace and ❤
Yes. His voice has been my favorite my whole life! I was actually born in 91 , so I haven’t had to know a life without his amazing voice and the beautiful sounds coming from the guys in the band. My absolute favorite band for literally my entire life❤️❤️❤️

The most amazing part about this was an entire arena of fans singing along to a song where the lyrics are more of a suggestion than a structural part of the song.
He's not even singing the original lyrics. One part is originally "I don't know if I'm the boxer or the bag", and this version he says "My brothers' coming home in a box or a bag".
My first album ever was Pearl Jam Ten......Loved all of those songs. Had three sons later, The youngest autistic....He's 7 now and I remember him sitting on my lap at 3 yrs old as I sung this to him( not knowing the exact lyrics, lol). So, I thought, gosh, this must be some accent I've never heard of, cause my first language is spanish and speak english but I could not understand a word he was singing. Now, having said that, I just fell in love with the melody and his voice.
imo one of the last of the great frontmen to grace the stage..this band has continued to deliver solid , soulful , thought provoking music for over 30 yrs - the u gents for making America proud
There is something very emotional about how a Pearl Jam concert ends. The coda with McCready playing by himself ebbing from intense to finally petering out to the final chord drags everyone to the conclusion of what is almost always a perfectly memorable night watching arguably the best live band of the last 30 years.
Probably no one knows the actual lyrics, but the summation of all the parts lead to something so beautiful that it collectively becomes an emotion. And what a beautiful emotion it is.
I love how the feeling of this song changes between the studio and live versions. The studio song is so introspective and personal, and then when it’s played live it becomes a singalong song that really brings everyone together. It’s like two songs in one, and I love both!
This song is very interestingly unique for me, as there are almost no songs I have ever heard that get me physically choked up like this one does, by leading me always to stop and think of family that has passed, children that have grown so fast, and friends that have come and gone in various ways. It's both a happy and a sad, solemn..... But meaningful song in so many ways for me personally. It's a trip honestly! Haha. Thank you P. J. For opening up a usually unemotional side of me, that never usually shows through..... The vulnerability in us ALL!!

One of the great things about attending a Pearl jam concert back in my day. Was the fact that the instrumentation was always dead on, Eddie has an entertaining presence on stage, and everyone in the crowd knew the words to the song regardless of what they we're singing.

I will always love Mike McCready for what he did for Layne Staley, encouraging him to sing, writing the music for Mad Season and bringing the music to Layne and telling him he had complete artistic freedom, write anything you want. Mike also thought that because he just got out of rehab and being sober he could help Layne., which he did for little while.... and of course his amazing talent..
Craziest thing, I was thinking the same exact thing to myself and then I scroll down and see someone else writing my exact thoughts.. I guess between just listening to this song and watching Mike McCready made me think of Layne and how much I respect McCready, for really trying to look out for Layne and give him a chance to create what I've read is some of Laynes own personal favorite creations. I can't see too many people looking out for a fellow musician like that, especially anyone out of this current generation.. We're overdue for a musical and social revolution, grunge-era esq part II please show come soon
