Well I don’t know much about wood spirits- when I was a boy out in the woods in the ozarks I got lost it was getting dark I was really scared then I heard this woman singing lalalala and I followed the voice and in about 30 minutes wound up back at the cabin often wondered about it

Ive played D&D since the early 80's. They must have put more time into the research behind these creatures because unlike Skyrim they were quite accurate.
I think the hagraven from Skyrim would be the correct version of the spriggan while the other creature is more of a Huldra. Huldra - the seductive forest spirit The seductive 'huldra' could be described as Scandinavian folklore's take on the siren. In Swedish folklore, this irresistible being is also known as 'skogsrå' - forest spirit - or 'Tall-Maja' (Pine Tree Mary).
Unfortunately it's all AI 😓 It allows me to get bespoke images to accompany the script and keep them in a consistent style. But if any artists out there want to showcase their work then please do get in touch!
@@BeastsoftheOldeWorld nothing wrong with using AI if that’s all you have to work with. I only see AI as an issue if its a shortcut for low-effort content, and your channel is definitely not low effort
Thank you for saying so - a lot of effort does go into these videos and I'm glad that comes across! So far as I can see, I would not be able to achieve the look and feel that I want for these videos without AI images, so until a viable alternative comes along I'm stuck with it, sadly.

Fantastic! Thank you for these! I love stories about the old world and the folkloric monsters and beings. Although, I was wondering if you might be able to add a bit of treble to the stories from others that you add to your videos? Being from a non-Western culture, English is not my first language, and the slightly muted treble of the added stories not in your own voice tend to make it slightly more difficult for me to understand. This is not a criticism; it’s more of a deficiency in my English ability. Thanks again! 👍
Thanks for watching - I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Not an audio expert by any means but I will see if I can figure out how to do that! I also want to add subtitles in as many languages as possible - this is a longer-term project though and may take some time!
I knew spriggans were a thing! Every time I try to look up information on spriggans the only thing that pops up for me is Elder Scrolls lore, I want actual lore not not video game mythology
I can only guess that if you say the word as it's spelled then it sounds like it could be something treeish - and they are guardians of a sort so there is a little crossover. But maybe it's more likely that a researcher pulled up a list of mythical creatures from somewhere, found Spriggan and said "that'll do!"
Many beings from folklore and ancient mythology are obviously misrepresented in fantasy. Kind of a silly question :P fantasy often entails creative adaptations. People frequently misinterpret ancient mythology. Like, Germanic elves are basically "spirits" of the dead or at least mythologised versions of the dead. Dwarves are synonymous with elves in a way and are described as being corpse like in appearance but they're not presented that way in modern fantasy. Trolls, another example, aren't what they're like in modern fantasy or even recent folklore; troll seems to be a blanket term for witch, outcast or monster - a pejorative entity
THANK YOU! Ever since I found out the truth of what these fae were a ways back, it's frustrated me how much modern fiction still clings to the tree monster approach. Arguably the worst is in the recent indie game "Home Safety Hotline", because while they cater to the modern stereotype, by the developers own admission in behind the scenes content they based their depiction of Trolls partially on lore accurate Spriggan! There's inaccurate do to ignorance, and then there's a slap to the face with a glove made of steel wool!!! Sorry, just wish more was done to show what Spriggan are actually like, because they are infinitely more interesting then what modern fiction does with them. I'm hoping since there is more of a focus in the last decade of depicting fae more akin to their roots, this might start to happen
When I was a boy of about eight years old, I once awoke from sleep after feeling the sensation that someone was watching me. When I opened my eyes, I saw a small being of about four feet in height and glowing a faint green staring at me from beside my bed. The little man looked like an evil leprechaun. His face was wrinkly and he smiled the most diabolical smile at me that I could never have imagined. His eyes and demeanor told me that he wished me some kind of monstrous ill. He was dressed in an old style of dress, kind of Pilgrim like with buckles on his boots. He just stood there smiling and staring at me. I was utterly terrified. I threw my covers over my head as if they could shield me from him and screamed for my mother. Of course, when she arrived and turned on the light there was nothing there. For years afterwards I hardly could sleep in that room and I always had to look under the bed and search for him before doing so. I live in the same house now, here in Norwell, Massachusetts, and I have never forgotten the entity that I saw. To this day, I have no idea who or what the entity wanted, but I believe that his intentions were evil.
You should report your encounter to the Fairy Census on the Fairy Investigation Society's website! Or, you could submit it to a fairy sighting channel, such as: 1. Scary Fairy Godmother (an author who narrates eyewitness accounts from the Fairy Census or those emailed to her by listeners) 2. Fairy Encounters (hosted by the sweet Kitty from Australia, who narrates mostly historical accounts like a storyteller, but would likely feature contemporary accounts if more were emailed to her) 3. the Modern Fairy Sightings Podcast (hosted by a woman from the U.K. whose name escapes me right now, but who prefers to interview eyewitnesses over the phone, on video calls, or in person). Or, you could opt for a channel that's not fae-specific, such as one of the following: 1. Monsters Among Us (where eyewitnesses call in & leave their account as a voicemail recording which is later played in an episode by the knowledgeable & deep-voiced host Derrick Hays, who often compares accounts to similar ones from previous episodes, or those that occurred in or near the same location, or that share similar characteristics) 2. Expanded Perspectives (2 middle-aged dads who are best friends from Texas who read eyewitness accounts that they find or that listeners email to them, like to joke around a little, have cool dubstep/electronic music for the intro & outro, & who especially love fae encounters... they get some of their accounts from Lon Strickler, researcher & host of the Phantoms and Monsters channel) 3. The Belief Hole (3 brothers who run a show similar in style to Expanded Perspectives, but with way more 80s music in the intro, outro, & background, & a bit more goofy, brotherly banter).
Probably either sleep paralysis or you were actually asleep but missremembering that fact as your brain was underdeveloped at the time, childhood memories are notoriously unreliable
@ I was wide awake when it happened. I awoke from sleep because I felt like I was being watched, which in my opinion I was. Could it have been a child’s night terror or something, maybe, but to this day I still believe that what I saw was real and present.
Great video thank you !
