Much respect. A family with the privilege of SPACE inside and outside and a sibling nearby to share responsibilities is a factor many of us do NOT have. But we do our best to support our parents. Took another day off work myself today to drive my mother to see her specialist. 3.5 hours one way to get to her, another hour to the specialist, Lunch/ socializing, and repeat to home. Left at 6 am and hope to be home before midnight. Pray I’ll be patient and do this with patience and love. This has been our norm for the past 8 years!

@@holdingcopsaccountable6554 LoL, you think you know but you know nothing. If you put a doctor in a nursing home ALL HIS ASSETS GOES TO THE NURSING HOME. You can’t sell their homes and take the money and then put them in a nursing. You can’t take their life savings and just throw them in a nursing home or you will be keeping them yourself. You pay attention and know YOUR business because I know this one. I’m in the business. Lol 😂 should have scrolled on by!

It’s real and such an inspiration to all! The medical community would do well to watch every single one of their videos, truly watch them and refer families and caregivers to them because we sure don’t get any help or guidance anywhere else.

The dad has the short term memory yes .. however I really love how polite he is ..... that is one of the things that sticks out for me
    1/his politeness
    2/he always wants to help
3/he asks about ex wife ..wants to kow how she is taking care of herself
4/never forgot about his car keys or check book ..
One of my friends went through this with her mom and they too did home care .. the sisters took their turn in taking care of her ..

Ed’s smile and soft laugh shows what a pleasant person he is even with this memory problem. Bless his Sons for caring enough to keep him with his loved-ones. At least two out of six cared enough to step up and make Ed’s last days brighter. This was the way life use to be. The children cared for the parents and took them in in their old age. Children were blessed to be raised in the home with their grandparents watching over them. We didn’t have the lonely teenagers needing someone to talk over their problems with because there was a precious grandparent that knew just when to intervene.

The videos are invaluable when dealing with the diminishing mind. Lived through some of this with parents, and now with a brother. So helpful in maintaining 'patience'!!! Staying calm...helping and repeating, if you don't keep laughing you will cry and that does no one any good. This is such an amazing 'learning' experience and so good that 'Dad's'/Grandpa's' family have invited us in, sharing is caring...and the caring doesn't end with this family, wonderful stuff!

We have no money, and live in a converted Van in 92yo Mum & 94yo Dad's driveway, to help them stay in their home and not go into an Aged Care Prison. IT's not "easy", but goodness, the rewards are priceless! We've cut back on work for awhile because it takes time to help them, but we can go back to work "later".....Dad reckons the reason why people who "go into care" have an average life expectancy of 7 months after they go into Aged Care is because they die of a broken heart for their family putting them there. I agree. You don't need money to do this, just a heart and open eyes to what actually happens to people when they go into the average Aged Care home. These places aren't all bad, of course, but you cannot pay people to care for your family the way you can. This is how Australia used to roll until the 1980's when we first started building Aged Care homes on a large scale. Someone from the family just "moved in" and helped out, or moved Mum/Dad into their home. It's not long term, you know, we know they won't be here forever, but as hard as it can be sometimes, we are enjoying this precious time with them beyond what words can describe.

My mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Dementia on January 3rd ‘23 and this has helped me out a lot with engagement with my mom so I can better communicate with her. Thank you Poppa Mark and Dan.

And let's not forget Danielle. When she married Dan she probably did not know she was signing up for this. But she has risen to the challenge like the wonderful loving and committed person she is.
