Poland makes sense and would work great with the new era mechanics too. The cultural ideology of Sarmatianism was central to how Poland developed and came to see itself in the world. Even Jadwiga’s cultural bomb ability in Civ 6, Golden Liberty or Aurea Libertas, has its origins in this Sarmatian/Scythian origin belief.
Good luck babe. Unfortunately the only Slavic Civs at lost will probably be Russia and its precursors. Finally the Abbasids make a proper apperance and I love their science focus, I hope its a blend of religion and science like the "Arabia" civ in civ6. Abbasids technically existed in civ5 with Harun al-Rashid (Abbasid Caliph) leading the Arabia civ that had Saudi (modern Arabia) passives which was you know... interesting.

The modern Japanese civ is specifically Meiji Japan. Meiji Era is named after the specific Japanese Emperor who has led a rapid westernization in government and technology, leading to a complete shift in Japanese political structure and dispose the Shogunate. His reforming policies, now collectively refer as Meiji Restoration, is the Japanese civ ability in Civ 6. This era marked Japanese transformation towards an industrial power, however its successor would eventually leads Japan to a more bloodthirsty path. This is very likely a scientific and militaristic civ, since it ends with Japanese ascension to replace Qing as the de facto power of Far East and its expansion into Korea. What devs mention in Nintendo direct implies that there should be at least another Japan at exploration age, which means it is very likely to be a Shogunate or Nara/Heian period. A antiquity may also be present (tho I am personally doubtful, Japan is relatively young comparing to other big ancient civilizations), which may be Yamatai or Yayoi. There was also a leak post on a Chinese social media platform that has since been correct on many different topics. The post suggests a Han-Ming-Qing timeline of Chinese civs with Confucius as the leader. The same post suggests Kimiko and Meiji Japan prior to the Nintendo Direct. The only info that is since proved incorrect is Confucius is revealed to be a population focused leader, but the post suggests he is faith focused instead. If the rest of information is true, then Qing will be the last Chinese civ in modern age, and chances r it was picked to avoid the current political problem of PRC-RoC/Taiwan debacles. It is uncertain what they will do with Qing tho, this dynasty was initially extremely expansive seeing Chinese dominance over Tibetan plateau and retake control of Xinjiang and secure border with Russian. It also developed a somewhat friendly relation with Western Powers during the reign of Qianlong Emperor but the relation soured later due to problems with Christianity. However its later stages was marked by extreme xenophobic isolationism and rampant corruption that would drive the empire to its knees. Societal and technological development completely halted as the dowager, who was the de facto head of imperial family at the time, refuse to embrace industrialization and reform similar to Japan, which then lead to an era of what the Chinese now call “Century of Humiliation”.
It’s also very weird Khmer is in antiquity while Chola is in Exploration. The two civilizations were contemporary. They formed an alliance to fight Srivijaya.
yeah, I hope too. It would be a joke if the historical path from Rome led only to France. I think that at least modern italy should be there, ideally there should be also something for the exploration age
Sure, to some extent that is just an inevitability simply because not every civ will have a clean progression through the ages. But also a lot of it is just a volume issue, the more civs that get added to the game the more logical the progression can be.
Japan being in the modern age raises questions for me - will we not see samurai as a unique unit? How can they hope to be useful in the age of cannons and muskets?
Japan (fortunately) has a pretty straightforward history, so I’m hoping Japan (and a few others) has a straight path and the “historical path” isn’t miles away in West Africa
They never do. Though everyone you listed is central European, like West of center of Europe, which is somewhere between Poland and Ukraine. BTW, they always ignore Ukrainians existing in strategy games because they didn't want to alienate buyers from mordor, BUT I looked up and 2K DO NOT sell games in land of drunker war criminals, so there isn't any reason for them to include the orcs but not us anymore.
Also regardless of personal disdain Muscovite Russia has been far more important internationally than Ukraine since the mongols. Cossacks are cooler though.
Yep Humankind made tons of worthwhile improvements to the formula that Civ would be foolish to deny. A wonderful example of how competition in a genre can shake up stale design.
That conceptually be seen in the late Antiquity and early exploration ages, units and buildings and techs appearing without entire age mechanics linked to them.
That greece eventually evolves into norman in the next age? That's the most stupid shit i've ever seen, at least make it make sense. I also hope germany and prussia are playable.
@@Oudri125 yeah, seems very in-depth. I still want more than 1 unique unit, like come on, Egypt can have Medjay AND chariots, and Rome can have Onagers or something.

@@WatchThis-ek2og Jewish Civilization is most definitely a thing. They were a distinct culture and nation that eventually got conquered by Rome. You know, like Egypt.
The ages and civs are all over the place... They start in stone age and then skip straight to exploration age, which results in us having medieval civs in renaissance wtf Also no Brazil? Hoping it is in there but none of the civs shown resembles anything that could become Brazil in later ages
Will be interested how they handle modern Russia. Like could there be a branching path to go "Russia" OR "Soviet Union"? And there be different ways to get one or the other? Idk, I feel like the 2 entities are distinct enough, and culturally significant enough, that both could end up as playable late game civs.
There will definitely only be one of them. Most countries have had multiple forms of themselves in the modern era, the devs are only going to be choosing one for each.
Seeing Soviets as a civ will be strange, not gonna lie. I think they will just add Russia, but I hope you can do something like this in-game by choosing ideology. It will be cool if after ideology change the emblem and name of the civ will change. For example If I am playing as Russians and mine ideology is monarchy, my emblem is the same as in civ 6, and my civ name is "Russian Empire"
Will all these civs have their own leaders or will it just be a leader per “branch”? Also, is it too much to hope for a Chamorro civ? Probably as an antiquity civ branch for Oceanian civs?
Do we know what sort of timelines do the "Antiquity, Discovery, Modern" sort of fit in? Would like both the Carolingian empire and the Holy Roman Empire fit into Discovery?
According to the dev's comment on the r/Civ subreddit, they didn't look at calendar dates but more so which civs from a region most closely aligned to how they were planning to develop each age, hence why Khmer shows up as Antiquity when the Khmer Empire starts at 800 CE and hits it's peak in the span of the 1100s to the 1200s
I was a little uncertain about the civ switching but now super excited to do the Han to Ming seems like that is really to progress how the area actually progressed and you are not fighting France in the ancient times. Really wish the leader also switched with age change.
They seem to want to make the leader be an avatar for you. Like *you* are the leader, and stick around the whole game, even as the civ underneath you morphs, evolves, and changes. Cause the leader has its own tree of unlockable benefits in-game now, like social policies, that can seemingly apply passive benefits to whatever civ you're currently playing as. Or at least, that's how I understand it to be.
They hate us, they won't do it. It literally took an outcry to get Canada as a full civ in the last game, then they intentionally ruined it just to piss us off. I don't know why but the Civ franchise has always had a hard on for hating Canadians.
- Japan should be in two eras. - Similarly, Poland, UK, France etc... - Germans (so Rome would have someone to fight) -> Holy Roman Empire -> Germany ;)
Japan should be in 3, but 99% DLC bait. They already have Himiko who lived during later Han era China (there's her correspondence with Cao Cao of Wei), so she's ancient era. Like before samurai, back when Japan had straight swords. Then there will be feudal Japan for exploration age, it's TOO popular to ignore, but might be expansion material. Then modern either Meiji or... later... Japan with stuff like Yamato or Zero which they had in older games. @@MrOobling leader of Germany in Civ VI was Barbarossa, easy to make his civ Exploration age HRE and modern Germany with Bismarck or whatever. As Firaxis wants to sell in Turkey and the Middle East, they probably won't include Armenia at launch. I could see them adding Armenia in a DLC, but it is still unfortunately not going to happen because the feelings of genocide deniers matters more because those deniers have money.
Not holding my hopes up but it's long overdue they add Kyivan Rus' and Cossack Ukraine, would fit especially in games limited by eras. Instead of giving their buildings and units to certain someone else.
So if I gather what they're saying, there are 3 "ages", but each era spans multiple "eras". So *Antiquity* is basically Prehistory, Ancient, and Classical, *Exploration* is Medieval, Renaissance, and Industrial, and *Modern* is Modern, Atomic, and Information?
They don’t align with actual history for whatever reason. Think of them as just made-up labels for the sake of the game. There are multiple medieval era civs placed in the antiquity age. And the modern age is pretty much just the industrial era.
So will we be FORCED to change civs with the era? If so, how will that affect civs that historically transcend multiple eras? Will we have to switch from Spain after the exploration era even though Spain very much still exists?
They could have made Castle & Leon and Kingdom of Aragon for Medieval age and Spain for modern, but since they got a bizarre idea of merging middle ages with Exploration specifically, they'd have to make it Spain. I guess they had the bright idea of making Aztecs evolve to Spain to Mexico. You know, just to insult everybody lol.

@@alosha4321Oh, yeah! I think it did depend on which England you played as though, cause I think not all of them did have 2.
I am iraqi and feel known 🥺
Iraq is recovering and hopefully it will come back to be center of religion and science
Also iraqis like myself are still very scientific and religious at the same time, we love science and we love spirtuality, it's even in the anthem
I will play civ 7 just to play abbasids
Civ IV had Khmer. (I mistakenly thought it was Civ V)
Civ VI too, a very one originally it was completely reworked and became pretty much the best one with one of the latest patches
It’s also very weird Khmer is in antiquity while Chola is in Exploration. The two civilizations were contemporary. They formed an alliance to fight Srivijaya.
@@zaneeverett5960The Chola are also much older than the Khmer, which makes all the more odder
Hope i can finally play with with Italy in a civ game
At the moment you can play Italy in ARA
yeah, I hope too. It would be a joke if the historical path from Rome led only to France. I think that at least modern italy should be there, ideally there should be also something for the exploration age
no brazil yet ;_; nd the pay wall is keeping me from doing what i did with 6 getting the pass
This civ hopping is so weird and the options of civs you can jump to seem very arbitrary.
Sure, to some extent that is just an inevitability simply because not every civ will have a clean progression through the ages. But also a lot of it is just a volume issue, the more civs that get added to the game the more logical the progression can be.
I haven't heard of most of the second era civs before, I agree it's concerning.
Japan being in the modern age raises questions for me - will we not see samurai as a unique unit? How can they hope to be useful in the age of cannons and muskets?
The announcement specifically mentioned it was "Meiji Japan", so Japan is probably in multiple ages like China having Han and Ming.
Yeah Japan will probably have Samurai in its Exploration age. Japan will be represented in all three ages with some changes between each ages.
Japan (fortunately) has a pretty straightforward history, so I’m hoping Japan (and a few others) has a straight path and the “historical path” isn’t miles away in West Africa
Maybe there’s gonna be kamikaze-planes
Erm, Khmer have been in Civilisation before......
I just hope that USA isn't boring or lame as it is in 90% of 4x games. Never feels like a reflection of how it is in real life (good or bad)
Ed Beach spoke about the Normans in a live stream, so we know they're coming. Pretty psyched about that.
I'm curious about if and when the Netherlands is added, it would be as a modern or as an exploration era civ.
It'd have to be exploration imo, the Dutch impact was sooo much bigger then.
It's modern age. Modern doesn't equal ww2 but very early modern period.
It’ll probably just be a city-state.
Their... debut? Khmer are not new to Civ.
Giving civs a huge production bonus towards "their" wonder is very railroady and dumbed-down.
Why they do not implement Eastern Europe civs? Bulgars, dacians, serbs, hungarians?
They never do. Though everyone you listed is central European, like West of center of Europe, which is somewhere between Poland and Ukraine. BTW, they always ignore Ukrainians existing in strategy games because they didn't want to alienate buyers from mordor, BUT I looked up and 2K DO NOT sell games in land of drunker war criminals, so there isn't any reason for them to include the orcs but not us anymore.
Bulgars are absolutely Eastern European, and Kievan Rus would be the best option, as it please all parties, even the Swedes.
Also regardless of personal disdain Muscovite Russia has been far more important internationally than Ukraine since the mongols. Cossacks are cooler though.
Closest you get is Poland/Russia
Precursor for eastern european should be Kievan Rus in exploration. But most likely Russia will go from mongols
Amina is 100% a Leader and not a civ
It would be awesome if Vlad Țepeș would show up in Civ7
So the antiquity civs are real civs and the ones after are like scenarios?
Scotland will defo be there- if we are looking at leaders in science, religion, and culture thats a huge amount of opportunity
They really put Humankind in my Civ game...
Yep one of the worst or fake civ clones.
Yep Humankind made tons of worthwhile improvements to the formula that Civ would be foolish to deny. A wonderful example of how competition in a genre can shake up stale design.
It would be nice for Spain to be able to be played coming either from Rome or from some Arabic civilization in the ancient age!
So we’re skipping the Medieval age?
That conceptually be seen in the late Antiquity and early exploration ages, units and buildings and techs appearing without entire age mechanics linked to them.
we skip all eras in this civ part, now there will be only 3 imaginary eras.
No Persia, no purchase...
Would be neat in order to unlock the Colosseum you 1st have to sack another civilizations Holy cities like in real life
Portugal not being in the exploration age would be a travesty...
I can't imagine an Antiquity age without Carthage. I hope it's in the base game !
That greece eventually evolves into norman in the next age? That's the most stupid shit i've ever seen, at least make it make sense. I also hope germany and prussia are playable.
Definitely hoping we get a proper Exploration Age Aztec Empire
I could definitely see a Maya - Aztec - Mexico path
@@Crick1952 maya to aztecs doesn't make any sense;

I need a Civ in each era that works like Gaul... I don't care what their name is. I just want the mechanics of that Civ.

It will be fun if you can select either in modern ages Ukraine or Russia, after playing as Kyivan Rus in antiaue ages.
Cool, cant wait to be Mao, emperor of Rome, then Khan of Mongols, then President of USA, so fun, so immersive
You can follow the immersive Path of civs. Ill probably just play like this. They already told us the AI will always follow the normal Path.

The celts were pretty significant.
The ages and civs are all over the place... They start in stone age and then skip straight to exploration age, which results in us having medieval civs in renaissance wtf
Also no Brazil? Hoping it is in there but none of the civs shown resembles anything that could become Brazil in later ages
I hate the changing Civs mechanic as well as the way they have defined ages. Also Denuvo is a deal breaker
Womp womp

Dont buy it. I love it, Sid take my money!
I want to play as the Romans. Civilization 7 - No.
I hope the Austrian painter is the leader for the Germany civ.
Will all these civs have their own leaders or will it just be a leader per “branch”?
Also, is it too much to hope for a Chamorro civ? Probably as an antiquity civ branch for Oceanian civs?
I hope they add Seljuks as well as Ottomans
What song did he use for when he was talking about Han China
Do we know what sort of timelines do the "Antiquity, Discovery, Modern" sort of fit in? Would like both the Carolingian empire and the Holy Roman Empire fit into Discovery?
According to the dev's comment on the r/Civ subreddit, they didn't look at calendar dates but more so which civs from a region most closely aligned to how they were planning to develop each age, hence why Khmer shows up as Antiquity when the Khmer Empire starts at 800 CE and hits it's peak in the span of the 1100s to the 1200s
where r my aztecs?!
Greece's special unit should be a trireme with kickass attack strength (greek fire)
It should be spartans!
Please, let Shaka and Gandhi be leaders!
Hope Brazil appears, I don't mind if it's on a base game or a DLC
We need Canada to return
They hate us, they won't do it. It literally took an outcry to get Canada as a full civ in the last game, then they intentionally ruined it just to piss us off. I don't know why but the Civ franchise has always had a hard on for hating Canadians.
- Japan should be in two eras.
- Similarly, Poland, UK, France etc...
- Germans (so Rome would have someone to fight) -> Holy Roman Empire -> Germany ;)
could be like Germany and then Prussia
@@EmmaWithoutOrgans Germany didn't even exist before Prussia...
@@EmmaWithoutOrgans I know this might sound shocking to some people, but Germany was formed by Prussia.
Then modern either Meiji or... later... The fact that Armenia hasn’t featured in any Civ game, either base or DLC is a travesty. It’s almost perfect for the 3 era system.
Yeah. Unfortunately Armenia is still considered "controversial" due to ongoing prejudice from Turkey and their friends. As Firaxis wants to sell in Turkey and the Middle East, they probably won't include Armenia at launch. I could see them adding Armenia in a DLC, but it is still unfortunately not going to happen because the feelings of genocide deniers matters more because those deniers have money.

Yeah, I was expecting something like Iberia for exploration, splitting to spain and portugal in modern.
Oh god I wonder if EU will be modern
They could have made Castle & Leon and Kingdom of Aragon for Medieval age and Spain for modern, but since they got a bizarre idea of merging middle ages with Exploration specifically, they'd have to make it Spain. I guess they had the bright idea of making Aztecs evolve to Spain to Mexico. You know, just to insult everybody lol.
