I have an 8N or 9 N engine with a valve stuck closed. Probably that C shaped keeper wore through or fell out. Thanks for the yid, I never took one of those apart before
It is not necessary to install the seal on the exhaust valves, but they must be installed on the intake valves. Some valve kits and gasket kits only include four seals. My ‘49 8N had all eight seals and I went back with eight when I rebuilt the engine. That tractor was last rebuilt in 1966. My ‘51 only had intake seals and I am presently rebuilding the engine on it and it is only getting intake seals. I drilled the holes in the lifter bores in both tractors at overhaul.
Yea I did know about it only needing the intake valve seals but I figured they gave you 8 in the kit so might as well use em. I don’t believe it’s going to hurt anything having them on the exhaust valves.

Glad it helped!
