I completely agree with everything you said in this video! I got into VRChat back in November 2020 and finally stopped in November 2023 myself. It is absolutely a different vibe nowadays. It has become way to easy to be in VRChat all day and not have a good time at all. In 3 years I've put in 1,000+ hours and tbh I regret it.
In my opinion, if you have not or are not apart of a close friend group the game is very hard to come back to. As you said it used to be where you'd have a good conversation in a public world but now those are mostly pure hell. Personally I think the game is really what you want to make of it at this point. If you want to have online friends, go to raves, or just chill with a group you can do that. It's up to the player to put in the effort. In the past you didn't have to put as much social effort into maintaining VR friendships etc. and I think that's a big deal especially with these closed off groups and stuff.
vrc went from being a social game where people went to chat nd make friends, now its imo, become an overly sexualised platform where people try 2 form relationships or argue about drama usually relating to that topic. publics are full of children and angsty teenagers mixed in with a few old timers that try to cling onto what vrchat once was, ever since the popularity of vr during the pandemic, vrc has been on a downward spiral, but not in terms of players but the quality of the community... this was inevitable and would eventually become the end result, as vr was opened up to the masses.. nothing will ever be the same and i doubt vrchat would want to change it either because money. it will always be a shell of its former self and that makes me sad, vrc is now all about : sex / relationships / minors / drama mixed in with some of the old. RIP ... atleast publics. if you want 2 find genuine people and make friends, you have to waddle through dogshit until you find a clique where you can relax and become friends :( This is my pov anyways of public lobbies
Yeah, VRChat definitely doesn’t have that charm that it used to have. None of my friends that I used to actually have fun with log on anymore, so gone are the nights of horribly-sang karaoke and screaming late at night in horror games, when I should be sleeping instead. It’s one of those things where you take it for granted, and you only realize how much you enjoyed it once you no longer have it. The mirror dwellers and overall rude people I tend to find littered everywhere in VRChat nowadays just makes it WAY too nerve wracking to try and make new friends, so I just… don’t. My boyfriend and I are currently in a long distance situation, so the only reason I will boot up VRChat anymore is to hop in LS Media and have a movie night with him. That’s it. While I do enjoy it, I miss the fun I used to have, the curiosity of what I would do in my next session. With all that gone, it’s just too predictable, and I don’t have fun anymore. So, yeah, excuse my mini essay, but you’re right. VRChat just isn’t the same as it once was.
I feel this. when I first started during the uganda day's, everything felt very magical and new, maps were still something new and exciting and yeah the simple avatar days. Anyone remember the kon avatars? missed those.
I wasn't able to join vrchat until last year, but i don't blame you for disliking the change within the community or like the menu change. The change within the community sounds like it'd be frustrating and i believe one of the bigger reasons as to why it changed is due to people joining vrchat due to wanting to be able to socialize better. I know i've added a couple of people who are that way. The menu does kinda suck ass as well, I wish it was organized better honestly. I imagine the old one would probably be easier to navigate
feeling this exact vibe about vrc. 2017 had that "pull me in" vibe. Nowadays, sorta like tugging me with a sharp wire. the end of the line is soon evident
From being a former content creator on vrc. I can say. It has changed a lot. Lolol. When I first joined It was heckin funnn. But After making content, comes recognition and jealousy. Well I would get recognized in many lobbies and I guess people would get jealous and in the 2020-2021 timeline. My life became horrible due to death threats and being Actually doxxed. I can say this game is absoluty heckin horribbleee. But as you said. I am still drawn back to it sometimes and I still join back every now and then. Although I hate it. It just has its appealsss.
Quest 2 and quest 3 is taking over and also Android is now available But as a person who watched The development of TH-camrs who played vrchat back then..ive noticed after EAC dropped by alot of drama has been lowering down..But EAC cant always prevent people using mods or Client's but as a quest user who played for 2 in half year's..I daily check up in public worlds to see hows everywhere and ive noticed alot..of stuff has changed i rarely Come Across modders or even pedophiles..or even E-Daters Which..is a bit calming but..I Kinda Been Just trying to living up the place with Funny memes and ect and also Catching pedophiles..as we'll But i do understanding on how..VRChat can damaged The human mind as it already effected me a bit sadly so thats why after i started to become a TH-camr i started to Become more cheerful and happy..Btw..This may sound like im complaining my own Situation it is a bit..But I've checked you haven't posted over a year..The Content on VRChat has gotten a tiny bit better since..EAC it may not look like it..but i definitely seen alot of new thing's..
It really was a culture shock and relate heavily. I started playing VRC in mid December of 2017. I left it in mid 2019, and returned when I got a new PC in the early months of 2022. I had no idea quest worlds were a thing and the whole culture was so different, that I almost gave up on it within a week. Surprisingly the timing was perfect for running into friends from old VRC which reconnected with me and we actually were able to have good times on it and run into some new people. But it seems as if this newer culture is... for lack of a better term, normie? To main stream? It went from hearing about something like Kanna gang and actual discussions. To instead running into people that somehow, are worse and more insecure and broken then people from something like Garry's mod RP. Which truly is a feat. That being said, I still hop on from time to time and run into people that are willing to actually talk. Ironically in the strangest worlds, I was still able to run into people willing to talk about Culture, (Psychology being a big one) History, Theology, sharing memes and other subjects. It's just harder to find then before and typically in non popular worlds.
Funny enough though, you can hop on Garry's mod Darkrp even now and it'll still pretty much feel the same and I used to play starting from 2011 I believe. I'd assume that's due to the limitations of the source engine and how, no matter which way you're playing it, it's still a first person shooter. I definitely feel you on how it's become more normie and funny enough, The other day I hopped back on for the first time in a while and had a really nice, deep conversation with a complete stranger in one of Hen's cursed worlds. "Shrek church" I believe? Sometimes you just gotta keep digging to find the gold.
i knew vrchat was gonna start degrading as soon as vrchat plus became a thing. not only is the community a huge problem, but the devs themselves are sabotaging their game with their own decisions.
I've also noticed this, I'm not new to vrchat and I've played it for a good while, however, I did take a break somewhere around January of this year because of how downright toxic most players were getting, every lobby I'd join would have at least one toxic person making the experience bad for everyone else there. I joined back into vrchat around late may and I must say although the toxicity has gone down by a bit, people, as you said, are a bit more anti-social or if not just hostile especially towards anyone new to the game. I think vrchat is still a fun experience when you have a community of friends who make it fun but without that it's certainly harder to get around than before, I've managed to be blessed with a good group of friends but unfortunately that's not the case for a lot of people, and to be frank, I'm kind of concerned with where vrchat is headed because of how both the community and development of the game is heading. I remember sometime within spookality 2020/2021 where creators were dishing out a bunch of new games for halloween and so many fun excited people were just starting to join vrchat, and it's very sad to see how things have changed since then, one can only hope that things will change back to that vibe sooner or later.
The toxicity is another thing I should of touched on and it's entirely true. If people don't outright ignore you, some will just begin to say anything to get under your skin for no reason. VRChat can definitely still be fun, but the cons can outweigh the pros imo. 2020/2021 was a pretty good year for VRC, I rememebr that! I also hope things wil go back to that vibe because holyyyy
Hey bro, just watched your video about the crashes and the group laughing coffin. I have connections with the group laughing coffin and still talk to one of my friends that was ex owner of doxbin and a highly known active member of laughing coffin. Let me know if you want to talk, we talk in discord vc daily. 😎
I feel like the social aspect of the game has heavily degraded. People are generally less welcoming to new players and the main public areas where you could have random conversations are now either filled with screaming kids who shouldn’t have a headset, or elitist full body users with a drinking problem that are incredibly toxic. I hadn’t even started playing until the beginning of last year and even since then there feels like there has been a shift in the attitudes of the player base. Don’t get me wrong there are still fantastic experiences to be had and cool communities to become a part of but the likelihood of that happening as a new user has decreased. I think I’ve found my place on this game, hanging out and playing pool in pool parlour which tends to have smaller lobbies and players of all skill levels where you can actually have a good conversation, goof around and sink some pool balls while you’re at it. If not for a close friend group I’ve traveled abroad to visit I likely would have dropped off VRC too even after buying a FBT setup for myself. At the end of the day, know what you’re getting into, don’t be an ass for no reason and you’ll have a good time playing. So long as you’re aware that this shouldn’t be your only form of social interaction and aren’t going to be dependant on it.
"kids who shouldn’t have a headset, or elitist full body users with a drinking problem that are incredibly toxic" Absolutely. Kids are not the biggest problem for me personally, but it does make me worried about what could happen to the younger ones on the game, especially hearing about the predator/grooming stories amongst VRChat. Phia made a video about the drinking situation and I didn't really realize how bad the alcohol situation is on VRChat until someone shines a light on it. It's very common to hear someone say "Ay, you drinking?" and you wont even be in a drink world or anything.
@TheTrueKi people getting drunk has become more a problem it’s no longer to be social but to give them an excuse to be a huge jerk to other and say o I was drunk plus on the subject of full body before there was just VR and desktop users and some full body users now it feels like you need a full body haptic suit and eye and mouth tracking, can’t be on standalone quest or desktop and got to wireless, have a dang good avatar made in blender and unity or find a really really good on out in the wild just to fit in I relished I am treated differently if I’m not in my full body VR set up because that seems like the biggest way to express yourself before it was just vive not brag I got full body with eye and mouth tracking or I’m in this really exclusive group just entitlement and hypocrisy left and right killing the once good vibes I wished I join back in 2017 to meet some people then rather then meeting them know.
@legiterally This is a copy paste from a comment I made in a different but same subject. I remember finding VRChat back in summer of 2020 people getting interviewed about there life, people show off there avatars and exploring new and amazing worlds. Almost everyday having a blast now all I hear is drama or people leaving or taking a brake. I join back in early March of 2021 I had a blast made some friends saw many come and go it’s October 1,2023 now a days it hard to even join people or find something to do. I get on most people are on red or orange I requested off some of the people on orange and sometimes get a invite. I miss the old day I wasn’t really there at that time but I remember how things were then and how things are now.

spot on
The only communities that are more consistent are the language learning ones

For me it’s the opposite. I’m in 2500h and it’s keeps on getting better and better. Depends on people you find to vibe with. They are out there.

real and true
Focus on the real life versus the VR life and you won’t feel this way. Just saying 🤷♂️
just make crashers not hard count you kills
EAC and vrc plus was when the game died imo
