I got this frequency separation action 2 years ago, today I returned to thank you because this technique helped me with cloning a VERY irritating pattern on a sofa cover.
Best tutorial video on the internet. Ive looked everywhere. You explained the sweet sauce that makes up frequency separation and the reason to use it. Thanks!
I just started watching your videos. You are very easy to understand. I usually edit my raw photos in Lightroom and when I have blemishes or a dark spot or light spots, I bring it into Photoshop. I never really took the time to really dive in and learn color layers etc. I would love to have you choose one of my photos to work on one day.
I love watching your tutorials, top on my list! I don't know how long before I master all these steps and techniques but I'm surely gonna enjoy and not get bored learning from your videos! Thanks for the free action and raw files.. very helpful when I practice!
@@EliInfante Hi Eli.. how do we "erase" those edits we want to remove or reset? Like example for the Texture layer, if we want to remove/reset the edits we did in that layer, is that possible?
Just discovered you on Instagram. Really love your style and teaching method. Thank you for sharing so much! Haven't done shoots like yours at this level so will definitely give it a try!

Thanks for great tuts. My brush strokes are mostly perpendicular to the light when using mixer brush, thinking that those spots should have the same brightness, and my stroke can smooth them while mostly keeping the bigger structure untouched. Sort of confused.
This is the best tutorial I've ever watched on Frequency Separation. Bravo Eli! Can you help to send download link for RAW photo for practice. Much appreciated. Waiting for your response.
Hi Eli! question, it looks that the action doesn't work. i't gives a fault with selecting, maybe because I'm on a dutch version of photoshop (newest version) can you help me out?
Same here just tried using this action but it wont work , keeps giving me a message saying no selection is not active , loved the Tutorial , but I would be having second thoughts about buying any with no due respect here , but if the free ones don't work .....
Eli, Main thing I still don't understand about Frequency Separation is: What do I when I'm all done? I.e., After I'm done blurring or blending my top or Texture layer and my bottom/Colour layer, what do I use as my final image? What/which do I save? The top or the bottom? Or do I merge or combine them and Save that? When I save, do I "Save As"? My problem is probably I don't understand enough about Layers.
@Eli Infante it´s a very very good tutorial thank you but i have some problemas trying to put the action, could you help me, please please please :( ????? Update: I resolved the problem changing the lenguage from spanish to english, thank so much for the tutorial please keep doing this kind of videos, are the best!!!!!!!
So when brushing with color is it better to leave the layer on normal or will it be better to change it to color to preserve luminosity. I haven’t tried it with later set to normal. I’m gonna try it!
Hello, I purchased your Photoshop actions and in trying to follow along with your tutorials I keep receiving an error message: could not use the clone stamp tool because the source is a group. At first I thought it was my photo so I downloaded your sample. I ensured that I was on the texture layer and sample=current layer. Same error message. How can I fix this problem?
@@EliInfante I think I figured it out. It can be a bit confusing to some, including myself, until I realized what is going on. The duplicated layer must be named "layer 1". But depending on how you copy/create it that could be different. Sometimes a duplicated layer will be called "background copy" and then the whole thing goes crazy. Or if you have multiple things going before you start the action the name could have been different as well. Maybe "layer 2" etc. So I realized I need a base layer from where you play the action that's always titled "layer 1". Even if I am 10 steps in before using this action. If there is already a layer 1 and I make a new layer it will be layer 2. Etc. So I make sure I now always change the layer name before I play the action. Because the action is specifically looking for the "layer 1" title before it starts. Hope that makes sense. Keep up the amazing work! Thank you.
Great !!! you are a master .. I love your style, thank you for the action. I'm telling you, I don't know what happens, but the action throws me pure mistakes. In the end, I couldn't do anything in the tutorial. Could you help me please

Hey Eli, I love your work. After I download the Free Frequency Separation Action, where do I put that file in terms of folder so the photoshop can read?
Hey @EliInfante. Just recently found your channel. Great stuff! Got to get me a drawing tablet soon. I tried to load the free FS action, but everything does not work the same in Photoshop v23.1 I think - it creates different layers, but throws warnings on Selection of things so I don't have what you have at the end. Is there any way to update the action or give a tutorial on how to update it ourselves? Thank you again.
@@EliInfante I got around it, thanks! As I recall the fix was to flatten my layers first, probably something with a layer name issue. That's worked ever since so I just flatten the image when I'm ready to do FS and the issue hasn't reappeared.
I have not tried again unfortunately but will try the advice from John to flatten things first. Not sure if I had other layers created when I tried it.
hello sir great tutorila but i have some problem with the action as i load the action and play it the texture layer isn't visible what to do about it? thank you in advance
Not sure if it would work, but I think maybe you should make a copy of the Texture layer than hide the one below, just so you always work on deconstructive layer. In case you make mistakes.
You can by duplicating the texture layer and setting it to normal blend mode plus a clipping mask. I don't do it because I rarely adjust the texture to the point where I might want to decrease it.
So I downloaded and installed your free action and it crashed and burned. Not sure if there is a difference in version 2019 and 2020? I ran this on an image with just a background layer only

I've used portrait pro and that doesn't really fix the issues presented here. Just smoothes out too much or not enough. You end up having a lot lot less control with portrait pro, when compared to your tutorial here.

Median does a better job of not blurring the edges when your adding the blur.
