I don't think that Rupert just wants to destroy Nate's happiness. Rupert wants Nate's sole source for happiness to come from him. Rupert wants to control Nate and use Nate's "genius". He is Emperor Palpatine wanting to turn Nate into Darth Vadar. If Nate can find happiness and respect outside of Rupert's realm of control then he loses control of Nate.
It just occurred to me that Rupert would be just the sort to go out and buy A Taste of Athens in order to get another hold on something Nate loves. It would also mean he has hold over Jade as well.
When new Trent asked Rebecca about the best guitarist - all the journalists leaned in. Just watch the journalist sitting in the front, he says 'great question' so earnestly. Had me rolling.
Another great reaction and review! I’d love add on to your discussion about the parallels between Roy and Isaac. Roy definitely sees a lot of himself in Isaac and the show does a fantastic job visually showing that this episode. The way Roy approaches Isaac in the shoe room totally mirrors the scene in the season 1 finale where Keely follows Roy to the locker room after he hurt his knee and played his last game. Roy was very emotional and yelled at Keely to leave him alone just like Isaac yelled at Roy in this episode. But like Keely did with him, Roy doesn’t leave and instead stays and supports him. At the start of their respective scenes, both Keely and Roy don't say a word and just continue to walk over to the upset person. I’ve always found that moment with him and Keely so incredibly touching and to see Roy now switch roles was awesome. I'm sure Roy totally saw his past self in that moment with Isaac and knew exactly how to handle it based on how Keely handled it with him. EDIT: I just realized that Roy is also influenced by Ted and Rebecca as well as Keely in this episode. The advice he passes on to Isaac is basically what Rebecca just told him after he didn’t do the press conference. Specifically - "Get out of your own way". And then Roy gives Isaac similar advice when he says, "You got to to deal with that or you're gonna f*ck up whatever it is you actually do care about". And then he pulled a Ted by answering a question at the press conference with a personal story.
Great observations. I'm totally going to do a side-by-side with each of the Roy/Isaac and Roy/Keeley scenes now. And, yes, the "get out of your own way" comment was totally in line with what Rebecca told him in the episode. Thank you for watching and commenting! -Andrew
Brilliant episode of television. Had me bawling, laughing and cheering. 7:45 I love how in every reaction video I've seen, that lout yelling that completely silences the watchers.
Hey, Hey! Another great recap and review! I really loved this episode. It hit me in the feels all the way around. My couple of cents worth - You could tell Jade was not at all impressed by Rupert and could see through his slimy BS. I've really grown to like her, and I think she's great for Nate. Will's tidbit of wisdom in the boot room was perfect...but it also makes me think he and Higgins have continued to spend time together after their outing in Amsterdam, because it kind of sounded like a Leslie Higgins-ism. :) Roy's names for the reporters during the press conference was hilarious. The mama bear in me just wanted to hug Colin. His and Isaac's talk was wonderfully done. All-around a great episode. I'm so anxious for the final 3! Have a great week guys!
yes yes yesss! i immediately picked up on jade's dislike of rupert as well. i don't think she will, but i really hope she doesn't try to push nate to get away from rupert. that's somethin that nate needs to figure out on his own, which he seems to now be doing. this episode was incredible all the way around. ❤
180 re Jade. How I disliked her! But she sees bs right away, and simply discards it. Sorry we missed her last line there in the vlog, “he seems very wealthy. But also nice-like.” Her delivery is so deadpan, you just know she instantly can’t stand him. Also she says Jade is short for Jaded, such great writing. Wonder if that’s true even.
Great comments and react. One thing however, Roy's story doesn't go anywhere near Phobe's teacher after you stop concentrating on Rebecca being centered in the shot and look to the right edge where Keeley's face is absolutely bursting with pride and love at the end of Roy's story in his press conference. - a pride and love like she's NOT going to be able to deny it one minute more.
That's an angle to Rupert I had not thought of; there's the distinct possibility he wants no one else to be truly happy. He goes around tossing money to make himself look good, but serially tries to derail anyone not helping him or potentially being a distraction to people aiding him. He's also showing the warning signs Rebecca has spoke of in early season of chilling ruthlessness in cutting remarks. IE saying Jade was out of Nate's league, then attempting to ruin it.
Great job again. This might be my favorite episode of the season so far. A few things -To me Rupert is like an addict that gets mad when you won’t do whatever drug or alcohol with them. They’re mad because you can say no, and they can’t. Rupert is a serial philanderer and won’t like that someone can say no to that. -Ted should work out more lyrics to Heart Bent -Roy is morphing into Ted. His press conference story was similar to what Ted did in the first episode of season 2 when Dani killed the Dog. If this show is going to continue in some form after this season it may be with Roy as coach.
this was another amazing episode (great reaction vid, too, btw. lol) there were so many fantastic scenes/exchanges in this one, but i think my favorite was between rebecca & roy. she really gave him the business throughout the entire ep, and he took it. i watched that scene in her office four times. 😂 she's just freakin brilliant. (sidenote: i've watched no less than 386 press interviews with the cast lol. brett & hannah have always said that they really never had many scenes together the first two seasons. i thought it was amazing to see them together this ep and they were absolutely fabulous. ❤)
As Beard exclaimed after the Bye Bye Bye rehearsal last season..."That was it!" This was an episode of Ted Lasso. I dont want to be a Seasons 1 & 2 purist, but this season has felt a bit wonky. I've laughed every episode at least once and even cried a few times. But it's been different. Anyway, great job as usual guys.
I mean, I've been professional at guitar since 1990. And I learned Stairway in my first year because it's a very useful finger exercise. Took a lot longer to get the 7/8 rhythm of Life's Been Good. Greatest classic rock guitarist soloist is Santana (sort of, like Gilmore he kind of sucks out of his lane). Justin Hayward is actually a fantastic guitarist who never gets his due. The 12 string speed rhythms of Question and Gypsy, to the half-step minor mood changes of The Voice, to him shredding live on Lovely to See You and Just a Singer (only one of which he didn't also write). "The guy from Cream" is actually a seriously lazy guitarist.
I'm open to it! I've thought about doing something Live, either leading up to an episode release or immediately after watching it. I think it would be fun having conversations with people, but I guess I'm always wondering if anyone would show up to actually chat with us 😅 (Andrew)
Rupert is trying to maintain control over Nate. Jade is a threat, a competitor. It could also be that Rupert *covets* Jade, particularly because she is so singularly unimpressed by him. Rupert can’t charm Jade, so he wants her and resents her. He doesn’t do well with women who see through his bullshit act - look how he responded to (got shut down by) Sassy Smurf at the funeral.
Can we please stop referring to Issac as an angry character. After 2 1/2 seasons seeing his charcter he is passionate and he cares about that team and they respect him. That attack on the fan and his reaction to the team.. thats was hurt. He felt betrayed by his friend but mostly hurt. It made his question their friendship and his role in it. Remember his question to Colin wasnt "why didn't you tell me. It was " what is it about me that you felt like you couldn't tell me". When he went after that jerk in the stands that was him defending Colin even though he was still struggling with what is happening. This was an excellent episode
Isaac was a jerk and made Colin’s experience all about himself. I hated this storyline. I don’t care how hurt you are that your friend wasn’t open about their sexuality, you don’t ignore them, refuse to touch them, curse them out and then make them think it’s all their fault.
This is a really good question! Because I can get over-analytical, I now want to go back and review everything that was submitted for Season 2 (and re-watch the S3 episodes) before I give my thoughts 🤔 But my initial thought is that it would have to be one of those two episodes. (Andrew)
There has only been ONE player in the history of The Premier League to out himself as gay. That taboo has been so inured into football conscience that it’s a career ending move.
You guys didn't show the most important part of the episode where Nate goes back to Jade, it's one of the most pivotal moments in his character development. Idk honestly why they focused on Colin (I mean I know why) because he is a side character whereas Nate is one of the more important characters whose been having a tough time trying to find closure and then when he actually realizes what he has to do they make his development a secondary thing and focus on Colin being a homosexual

Also Higgins laughing at Rebecca's "the guy from Cream."
That dynamic has shifted so much.
Major thing I spotted was Keeley during Roy’s press conference. The camera focused more of Rebecca but watch Keeley ❤
When new Trent asked Rebecca about the best guitarist - all the journalists leaned in. Just watch the journalist sitting in the front, he says 'great question' so earnestly. Had me rolling.
I was chuckling at being reminded of "new Trent" before even reading the rest of this comment 😆(Andrew)
“I like you better than the old Trent” omg hilarious.
Another great reaction and review!

Nate is finally realising he does not want to be a Renfield to Rupert's Dracula and Isaak just needed a moment to understand the betrayal he felt.
"a Renfield to Rupert's Dracula" - Love it. (Andrew)
“That is me, that guy right there” Guy proceeds to say the word… perfect timing😂😂
tbh I almost left that part out of the final edit because the guy ruined the moment/joke lol (Andrew)
Moments before disaster

Every time I finish a Ted Lasso video I also look forward to you guys watching it as well
Thank you! And I appreciate you attending our premiere of the Episode 10 reaction/review today! -Andrew
This was the best S3 episode so far.
I love these two. Their reactions to everything are so amazingly kind and fun and intelligent. I want them as friends.
🤗Thank you! We just do these for fun, but the comments have been so great. Ted Lasso fans are awesome. -Andrew

It would be great if you did a supplemental Lasso video on which you answer and reply to comments about the show.

Am not sure whether it will be the Amsterdam episode or this one that will be offered up by the producers for the writing Emmy. Any thoughts?
I'm sure they'll submit this as Brett's entry for best supporting.
This one for sure.
As of right now, this is my favorite.
