It was because of the licence plate on Jeremy's car. They said he's put on the number plate H982 FKL and it refers to the Falkland war of 1982... It may look like that but you cant just fake number plates. That Porsche was sold as new with those plates on it. It's never been changed and there's a load of public viewable documentation on many official websites.

Definitely, it was one of, if not THE, most watched show on television and I think most of the viewers didn't care about cars.
The best part of their shows was the chemistry, they have such a unique chemistry and all play their roles so well. Clarkson being a bumbling orangutan, May being the more interesting and intelligent and Hammond being the butt of the jokes and always being upside down or on fire, the jokes and pranks and conversations are what made them iconic, not their knowledge of how carburettors work.

It reminds me of how someone described professional wrestling. "Professional wrestling is not professional wrestling, it is a TV show about a professional wrestling show". It is true, the idea of the show, was the road trip to agentina, to play a football game in cars, ass said the license plate, was a total accident, it came with car and no one noticed, the argentinians took offence, they had to have police escort to escape, they went through one bad set of protesters, who really beat the convoy up with bricks and stones, breaking windows, as they got further along, things got more dangerous, and there was a crowd ahead of over 300 protesters, they left the 3 cars behind, left the police convoy and diverted across a river in to Chilli i think it was.

Yeah that protest was real. You may have noticed Clarksons car plate being H982 FKL, (1982 FalKLands, the year of the war), just as an extra dig at those Nazi sympathising sore losers. There was and still is a strong anti-English sentiment in the south of Argentina, people who lost friends or were injured when they invaded a British territory so Clarkson, a very nationalist British TV presenter, publicly visiting them for a 'car football' match is basically like George Dubya Bush going to play a volleyball tournament in Fallujah. The salty Argentinians can cry some more.... us Brits don't go to Germany and start getting upset that they bombed us during the war. The germans don't come to the UK and "poke fun" as you've suggested the British did here.... we understand that at one point the British and the Germans were against each other many years ago. Now they are at peace with each other and have been for a very long time.
I haven't been to Germany but I wouldn't feel in the least bit afraid of going there - considering they surrendered to us in the war you might think I should be.

That episode was for Hammond ( or is it Clarkson ) the most dangerous trip they have ever made.
7:05 it's a licence production and adaptation to the south american market ( Chilean and argentinian mostly ) of a Citroen 2cv called Citroneta .
There was even a pick up version (rare ).
That episode didn't gave a good lasting image of Argentina in at least 150 countries. In 2016 Clarkson tweeted "Happy Christmas to everyone. Except the Tierra Del Fuego people of Argentina. You lot can sod off." This came after an incident where Clarkson missed an airline flight in Stuttgart, Germany, which he claimed was caused by an airline worker purposefully impeding him, stating “I’m from Argentina, so fuck you.”
