they made a great point in one intro into one of the US videos once. Saying how american engineering in military, space fligh and so on is so amazing, but US cars have never caught on anywhere else in the world and have a absolutely terrible reputation.
Having tiny horse power out of gigantic engines is certainly part of it.

"US cars never caught on anywhere else" is such a dumb statement because it's patently untrue and just ignores how many "European" brands are actually American, like Vauxhall and Opel, and how culturally significant American cars were all over the world for most of automotive history. The post gas-crisis malaise years of American automaking are what you're thinking of, and they led to the end of underpowered American land-boats everywhere, including in the US

    • @Minderz
      @Minderz ปีที่แล้ว +8

@@dapeach06 I don't think they're speaking of owners but rather the history and skill when talking about European vs American cars. If a company has built cars for 100 years in the UK, the staff is primarily British and the designers are from Europe. It's a European car even if some company on another continent owns it.
And even the "US" cars that do sell well outside of the US are mostly not actually designed in the US. Most Fords that sell well outside of the US are based on frames designed in Europe.
That being said. There's no denying the classics. There's an almost endless list of classic american cars that people recognize and love. Most people just don't wanna drive them in their daily life.

It is a word deriving from a pre-Columbian language, and comes via Portuguese, not Spanish, so no excuses for “Jag-wah” because it is more like the Spanish word as it is pronounced today. Earliest mentions in English are from the early 1600s, so the word has had plenty of time to be assimilated into English. Look up the pronunciation on Google and it is “Jag-you-er”. This accords with information from Oxford Dictionaries. “Jag-wah” is entirely wrong.

The rest of the English speaking world pronounces it "jag u are" because that follows the rules of English pronunciation (check the oxford English dictionary - phonetics).
The American pronunciation "jag warre" is unique to the USA and maybe parts of Canada and doesn't seem to follow any understandable rule of gramma or phonetics.
Americans often use unique pronunciations of words that make no grammatical sense or follow any linguistical rule of phonetics but because it's what they are used to (and they are American 😄) they always insist they are right!
The car was of course named after the big cat (Jaguar) which was being identified, classified and pronounced correctly before America was... well America!
The word 'jaguar' comes from the indigenous word 'yaguar', which means 'he who kills with one leap'.
So... Um... That's why the British along with most of the rest of the world pronounce it as it is spelt - correctly!

Out of the 3 sportscars, the ferrari and the mercedes are touringcars, the GT3 is a thoroughbred roadlegal trackmonster.
The "GT3" nameplate was introduced in 1999 as part of the first generation of the Porsche 996 model range (commonly known as 996.1) as a homologation model for the cars entered in the FIA GT3 cup. As with Porsche's previous 911 RS models, the 996 GT3 was focused on racing, and so was devoid of items that added unnecessary weight to the car. Sound deadening was almost completely removed, as were the rear seats, rear loud speakers, sunroof, and air conditioning, although automatic air conditioning and CD/radio became no-cost optional add-ons. In 2003, Porsche introduced the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, an even more track-focused version of the 996 GT3. RS is short for the German RennSport, literally "racing sport" in English. They are road legal but there is no luxery in this car, anything to drop weight and increase performance.

The reason they said that later Rolls Royce cars are German is because BMW is the parent company to Mini cars and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

25:16 *TLDR below* GT3 RS Means a very hardcore version of the normal 911 (not the most hardcore, because they do make the GT2 RS, which is even more hardcore). But basically GT3, GT2 refers to the racing classes of the same names (there are more, like GT1 and GT4) in which sports cars compete (mostly known for endurance racing like 24h Le Mans, but not limited to that). The numbers after GT represent classes and the lower the number is, the faster, more advanced and more modified the cars are. Going back to the naming nomenclature of Porsche cars, the GT3 RS is the really hardcore version of the 911 but it isn't the same car that they would race in an actual GT3 race, because GT3 cars are much more thorough-bred and not road-friendly. It just means that they use a lot of technology developed for their GT3 race car, but still not as much as they would use for their GT2 car, thus creating a market for a GT2 RS model.
TLDR: 911 = fast, 911 GT3 RS = hardcore fast, GT2 RS = insanely hardcore fast. Name refers to racing classes (template 'GTx' - lower 'x' number = faster) so that Porsche nerds can dunk on GT3 RS owners when they themselves own of a GT2 RS.

So a quick manual lesson for dummies
1st gear is used for starting off or for creeping forwards slowly or used for a hill start
2nd gear is used for anything above 5 miles an hour and under ten miles an hour
3rd gear is used as your intermediate gear is anything above 20 and under 30
4-5th gears are for anything over 30+
R is reverse and is pretty self explanatory
    😂

it depends on the type of engine, but for me, 5th gear was for above 40mph.

Tbf, we can't argue with the idea that left-hand drive is more correct simply because its more common. We just do shit differently because we're an island. It's even quite common for many second-hand cars to be imports from Japan because they're one of the only other large economy that drives on the left-hand side and has a big car industry.

I think the thinking behind America engineering is more angled towards size, economy and power. Such a large engine putting out such a small amount of power, such a large car that handles like a dog and the fuel economy of a 40tonner wagon

Going off the data I could find from a quick Google Search Russia is ≈ 6,600,000 square miles and Africa is ≈ 11,700,000 square miles.
This makes Africa about 1.7x the size of Russia. Or approximately 3 Canadas.

Jaguar - no "w" in it. Jag war? Nope, its our car and we named it, 😁Only thing wrong with the "evil empire" bit, is that it was only done with the active help of local leaders, local soldiers and local administrators. Riding on the left side of the roads or tracks became standard. It kept your shield to the closer danger side, your weapon to the open side to swing etc. Your scabbard to the road side and not tangling with oncoming riders. And when you dismounted, it was to the side and not the middle of the road. Japanese Samurai travelled on the left for the same reason - and still does. Roman Legions travelled on the left as did much of the world. Napoleon is credited to moving France, and much of Europe to the right - as did Hitler. America tried both, the big Conestoga Wagons preferred the right - and their car industry, and because their good friends the French did, chose the right!

The Mercator projection, the most popular world map, distorts the size of the shape of landmasses near the pole. This results in Russia looking bigger than Africa. Actually Africa can nearly fit two Russias. In fact, Africa has an area of 11.73 million square miles while Russian one is only 6.6 million square miles.

the reason why the steering wheel on the right side is the correct side is because 9/10 people are right handed, which means you can change gear with your weaker hand keeping your best hand on the steering wheel
