The biggest underdog story in NBA history isn’t well known but a star from the ‘90’s used to work at a grocery store. He barely made the NBA but once he got there he became a legend.
@@olivergreenway2307 There’s a hell of a difference in “bad” when in respect to those things. Plus, it’s not as if he just had sex with her and had the kid, and then was an actual father. He intentionally missed out on that kid’s life. So it’s a lot more than a couple bad moments
Amazingly, Starks gets hate for that Game 7 performance when Patrick was MIA for the entire series. I don't care that he was playing against Hakeem, he's an all-time great too, and should've played better. Expecting an undrafted, inefficient, fringe All-Star to carry a team to a championship was insane.
Wtf are you talking about? No one asked him to carry us. We wanted him to STOP TRYING TO CARRY US. If you ain’t hitting your threes and your name isn’t Reggie Miller, STOP TAKING THEM. Get this bullshit out of here.
One of the greatest Knicks player of all time. Because no one knew that he played with the Golden State Warriors and the Utah Jazz. The team that he retired from, but he will always be remembered. As a New York Knicks for life.
The Bulls were my team in the 90’s but I was fan of Starks too. I loved his intensity and crazyness. That rivalry with the Bulls was great during the playoffs. And that dunk was epic. That Knicks team deserved championship trophy too.
I love this type of content. It's interesting, and it gives me a break from all that manufactured contraversy on ESPN and outragous takes. You are a great storyteller, too.
Such a huge John Starks fan. I met him for the first time in June 2023 at a grand opening event in NYC. He also signed my memorabilia book, which I made in 1993❤❤
@@Isthatoumar I think you’re missing the point. It’s about Don Nelson discovering him. Not about 20-30 years later. Back then we drafted Mullin, Hardaway, Richmond, Marciulonis.
“I got a shot like Pedrag and a mouth like John Starks” ….that bar probably needs to be paused in 2023 but it always comes to mind whenever I hear or see him lol
Hey A.M love ur content i just want to give an idea i just though of, ive seen you do it before and it is to do your nba seed predictions for each conference
John Starks was one of my favorite players back in the 1990's with the NY Knicks for the simple fact that he made it to the NBA on a NY Knicks roster as a blue-collar guy. Sometimes in life, it's not the superstars that are inspiring. To a degree, I used a player like John Starks as an inspiration to obtain my bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Many critics stated that John Starks wouldn't make in the NBA. And somehow he did regardless of how, he made it. I enjoyed listening to Michael Jordan's Hall-of-Fame speech. I remembered MJ said something like "John, I love you," I had assumed he was complimenting John Paxson, his teammate. I always revered that guy too. I'm a bit different from other fans, I appreciate the players not often discussed. Those are the reasons why I love the game of basketball. Team game.
New York on this era was stacked and somehow whe people do the listing staring at Ewing somehow always put Starks way down the list but I saw that era and Starks es key to glue and handle the Ball right left up down Center... There has and is a reason why Bulls Pacers aim at him to go over the team in post season.
Ayyye Tulsa on the map! Starks was a classmate with my mom. She was taller than him, at 5'11". He would try to talk trash and call taller ppl "Too Tall Jones" Always had good camps for the kids. One of our 4 NBA legends along with Dumas, Mayberry and Tisdale.
Knicks fan for 30yrs. Thank you. Our fans go wild over that dunk and as a hooper I get confused. Certain angles make the dunk look wild but he did not dunk on MJ. I wish he did though
The NFL should have a similar rule about not cutting players who were put on IR during the season, but as long as the NFL don't give their players guaranteed contracts, that will never happen.
Glad to see someone highlighting the positives of Starks’ career. People shouldn’t be just defined by one or two bad moments.
That’s true but still he couldn’t find the net in the biggest game of his life.
Except Karl Malone than we can hate him for a few bad moments

@@Jonathan-A.C. I agree
He was so close to Finals MVP. If Hakeem doesnt block that shot in Game 6. Starks would be a Legend

Ewing is without a doubt in the top 10 most overrated players of all time

Akeem was too good. Knicks fell in 7.
From one fellow Tulsan to another, much respect to John Starks. Enjoyed watching him ball back in the day

Growing up as a kid in NYC in the 90’s starks jerseys were everywhere
He was one of my favourite players growing up...oddly, him and Pippen. Both have inspiring stories.

Love John Starks and those 90’s Knick teams, one of my all time favorite players…and that baseline dunk on Da Bulls was filthy.

The 90s Knicks deserved a chip.
My favorite player One of the reasons why I first started watching basketball
We was my favorite player growing up in NY. That Dunk was such a great game live
People who talk trash about John, only watched highlights and not the actual games. That dude is tough, had heart, and skills to boot.

One of my favorite under the radar guys ever
Andrew Fenichel? :0
Thanks for that John Starks history, he was the man in NY back in the day. Especially after that infamous dunk
John Starks was a hell of a player...
Warriors always finding gems
Don Nelson

Loving this throwback content keep it coming
You have no idea how much Knick fans love John Starks. His heart, courage, fight on both sides of the court was pure devotion to winning. 🥰👏🏽🎯😍
Good piece! I never knew about the John Starks story. I remember him against my Chicago Bulls tho.
Exactly, winning a chip isn't everything. He won in life. Thats more than enough
As a Bulls fan, i tottally respect this kid...now grumpy grandad!!!! :) Whish him best!

I didn't know the Warriors brought Starks into the league.
Damn! I did not know Marvelous Marvin Hagler played for the Knicks! @5:47
idk if you would but could you make a video on the KPJ situation
Exciting player. I remember when they almost beat the Bulls.

Knicks fan that revered Reggie Miller. Enjoyed the 1990's playoffs between both teams.

Him and Richard Dumas would smoke weed and watch MJ film in the locker room.
He didn’t really dunk on MJ who isn’t his primary defender. media wanted to make it a thing.
I have an autograph from him
