      dave jasper Apparently, John Starks' final two years with the Knicks were forgettable because of their FA acquisition of Detroit's Allan Houston, which relegated Starks from starting SG to backup SG/Sixth Man during the seasons of '96-'97 and '97-'98.
      I wonder if NY regretted signing Allan Houston to relegate Starks to bench player. Because NY probably had a fair chance to get closer to the NBA Championship with Starks than they did with Mr. Allan Houston.

    Starks was not a first round pick he was not a second round pick, he was not a pick period. The man bagged groceries until he tried for the knicks and played every game with passion and intensity. LEGEND.

He is just my 2nd favorite Knick Patrick Ewing first but it is close though... hope to see we can make a Knicks team like this again but too much rules

Listen pal, Ewing never cheated in order to win like disgraceful Brady. Ewing had to face JORDAN in his entire career and lost two finals to olajuwon and duncan. I loved Majic, Worthy and Kareem, they won many championship,but my favorite team of all time is hands down the Knicks starring P. Riley, Ewing, Oakley, Mason and most importantly John Starks. Whether they won or lost they gave you a good game every time.They all had strong,forceful personalities and they were a treat to watch. There has not been a team like them before them or since them, they were special. They WERE an era. That team brought me and my children joy. I miss and love them.

    As a New Yorker and a Knicks fan i'll always remember and Love John Starks for his Aggression and Passion for the game His competitiveness brought life to The New York Knicks back in the early 90's He and Jordan had a rivalry unmatched by todays NBA standards and he made Madison Square Garden the place to be in the 90's as well. The days of Ewing, Oakley & Mason are long gone but when i think of the good ol days in regards to my Knicks i look back to the 90's.

    • @billny33
      @billny33 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I loved Starks but I learned to love Sprewell's style of play and appreciate what he did for us. I was surprised at how much I could love that 99 team even without Starks. For me the Knicks began to feel like it wasn't the same team first in 2001-02. Van Gundy left. Larry Johnson retired. Ewing was gone. Houston/Sprewell/Camby weren't strong enough to do it on their own.
      Even their first year without Ewing 2000-01 when they had disappointing Glen Rice in his place, I was behind that team all year and stunned when they lost to Toronto in round 1. I wanted to see them go against Philly and Iverson. As it turned out, that was the end of the era as far as I was concerned.

    • @MrGlanderson
      @MrGlanderson 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      He was the heart of the team. Sprewell was a little better then Starks but he did not have that special something that connected with the New York fans as well as Starks. Starks made plays on determination and will power at times. Its good to meet another Knick fan. lets see what goes on this season. Can Rose stay healthy? can the team come together and be a winning unit? Will KP have a southmore jinx?

    In NY, Hustle and Heart go a long, long way. We're tough on our teams, and players when they fail, but when they give their all, they will always be revered as heros. It's why Starks is still loved in NY.

    Starks is my all-time favorite player! I mean I loved Ewing, but Ewing was super talented. John Starks came out of nowhere. He played his fucking ass off EVERY night. He left his blood, sweat and tears on that court. He played with desire, passion and heart.
    He wanted to win worse than anybody.
    People can bash him for that Game 7 in 1994, but in Game 6 he almost, singlehandedly won us the championship. 16 points. We lost by the length of Olajuwon's fingertips, cause Starks's shot was going in

      Tbf , game 6 Starks had Olajuwon running at him and Ewing with a wide open lane in front of him. Patrick wasn’t missing that bunny.
      None of the Knicks other than Harper had any court vision at all. Amazing what they did on pure grit.

    Nowadays NBA needs more players like John with heart, passion and the love for a club not for the money, i miss the 90's NBA .

    Growing up a Chicago Bulls fan I loved, and hated, John Starks. That being said I always admired the amount of grit and passion he played with every night. Those Knicks teams were notoriously tough.

    My top 3 favorite knicks of all time are John Starks, Allan Houston, and Stephon Marbury. But Starks always will be on the top of that list. I agree with all the positive things y’all have said, especially about him playing with sheer passion. Truth.

    Dude had passion, i still remember him climbing the scorekeeper's table and flipping off the fans, during one of the Miami series. He was like a belligerent fan - which was awesome.

    I'm from Mexico, I became a NYN fan during Ewing's gameplay. But that team that reached the finals, I almos watched every single game during the 1994's season. I admire John's and Patrick's heart and bravery to defend every single ball or play. During my play time when I was younger, I tried to play the same way as Starks. I learned how to feel the real basketball on the court. Now that kind of basketball is gone. I missed those days. The tough ball of the NY KNICKS

    Loved the Knicks back in the '90s. Admired John Starks regardless of the facts that it was basically as someone also stated from this thread. It was consistently "feast or famine" with Starks on the Knicks roster during their run. Looking back at game 7 in '94, I was a huge Knicks fan hoping the Knicks would beat the Rockets in game 7. But reality in my honest opinion, I believed that it was Hakeem's time, and he was the best player in the game after Michael's brief retirement. Hakeem was simply a slightly better than Patrick during that series. And when comparing both players careers, Hakeem's numbers solidify those arguments. I loved Patrick, but "The Dream" just simply had that "one more" factor. But I will always be proud of Ewing. Patrick was a great player and will admire his effort. But Jordan and the Bulls were simply "great" during their dynasty.
    To this day, I can't blame John Starks too much for his horrible shooting performance despite one of the worst shooting performance ever witnessed. If I'm not mistaken, he may have practically played the entire game. To a degree, Starks performance sort of took away the true reality in which, Hakeem technically outplayed Patrick during that Game 7. As a consolation, it's possible Patrick still holds a Finals record for most blocked shots in a series.
    Last but not least, great video of John Starks during his playing days. When Michael Jordan briefly mentions Starks name during his "Hall of Fame" speech, that's mad respect from the legend himself.

    Starks, Ewing and Oakley that was the Knicks in the day. He defended Jordan dunked on jordan yet had no respect. N.Y has been clueless after these great Knicks moved on. Starks is never mentioned and I have no idea why. He was the bad boy of N.Y represented the heart of N.Y. Gave his all for N.Y yet he is forgotten. My man, you were my favorite knick back in the grip. Thank you for putting it all on the floor.
