9 saying “No” to the Daleks and them getting completely flustered by it and then confused/scared when he says he’s coming to rescue Rose is one of my favorite Ninth Doctor moments 🙂
The music at the beginning is the music used for all seasons of Big Brother in the UK. So everyone in the UK who watched this episode would know he was in the Big Brother house.
I've watched a lot of Doctor Who reactors over the years, and I can safely say that the sheer joy, sense of wonder and genuine investment in the stories and characters that your reactions bring puts you right at the top of the list as the best DW reactor I have seen. The featured game shows were all big at the time this aired in 2005: Big Brother (which was on Channel 4, not the BBC, hence the 'You are live on Channel 44000' line by the show's actual presenter Davina McCall, along with its iconography and theme tune), The Weakest Link (presented and voiced by Anne Robinson, hence the Anne-droid) and What Not to Wear, presented by Trinny and Susannah.

This episode is bonkers. "What is happening?!" is an entirely valid response. The three shows were based on reality shows on in the UK and other countries in the 2000s. The Doctor is in Big Brother, where a bunch of people lived in a house and one got voted out each week. It was huge at the time. Rose is in The Weakest Link, which worked exactly as shown and was hosted by Anne Robinson, hence the Anne-droid. Jack is in What Not to Wear, which was a makeover show where people got fashion advice, a new wardrobe and new hair and makeup but no scary plastic surgery. The fashion advice was actually good, but could be a bit blunt at times. They also mention Ground Force which was a garden makeover show. Fun fact: The droid hosts of the shows were played by the hosts of the real-life shows and are named after them.
Always happy to see new Who fans enjoying the Ninth Doctor, he's criminally underrated even though he's the guy who essentially made Doctor Who cool again.
Take a drink everytime Emme says "what's happening?" in this episode and you will ended up drunk. Also, Captain Jack was amazing in this one, gotta love that whole moment with him and the androids, it was pretty funny. Loved the reaction and I can't wait for the finale!
You mentioned Torchwood. So when this series of Doctor Who was being filmed. To hide the tapes. They labeled it as Torchwood, to hide it from people looking for spoilers or to steal it.... Its also an anagram for Doctor Who.
Yes - a brilliantly written episode. Great fun, great danger, great mystery, stunning reveal, plus (almost) tying up the bad wolf loose ends. And great acting too - e.g. the look on CE's face when he thinks Rose has been disintegrated.
The two-part finale to this season was a lot of fun, I'm glad you're enjoying it. BTW I don't know how long ago you got your hair done like that but you look lovely!

DALEK: But you have no weapons, no defences, no plan. DOCTOR: Yeah. And doesn't that scare you to death. Rose? ROSE: Yes, Doctor? DOCTOR: I'm coming to get you. I also found out from the doctor who card that the daleks installed the jagrafess to stunt the human growth so that means they were there then too although probably less numbers. Once the doctor stopped that they had a backup plan
Glad you enjoyed the episode. The next episode, the finale, is totally wild but totally brilliant. You’ll get to find out what Bad Wolf really is. See you picked up on the word ‘Torchwood.’ Russell T. Davies has wording in each of his seasons that you have to listen out for or look out for visually, which generally leads up to the epic finale. So Torchwood might or might not be the key word in season 2 (you’ll just have to keep watching to find out!)
The production team originally intended to show Jack's naked buttocks on screen. The scene was shot, but the BBC's editorial policy department stepped in and vetoed it, the only time they over-ruled the production team during the 2005 series it also wasn't considered appropriate for a family viewing.
I think the TV shows used for the first half of the episode do date this one more than most other episodes, but the crux of what the episode is about is strong enough that it doesn't matter really. This two-parter is one of the better S1-4 finales, imo.
So yeah, all the shows are based on real programs from the time: The Doctor on Big Brother (back when people actually watched it), Rose on The Weakest Link (with the famously unpopular Anne Robinson) and Jack on What Not To Wear.
