  • A vid from Anglia this time. March was quite a busy place back in 1992. The Norwich's had lost their 31s in favour of Sprinters but there was lots of freight & parcel train activity to be seen. Loco types featured are 31, 37, 47 & 56. If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

    I have done all three sides of the former triangle junction to Wisbech, but March to Spalding shut before I got to do it. I also worked March East Signalbox under instruction. But I cannot publish that on the internet !

    Always had a soft spot for March - as a small boy almost 60 years ago, with my dad we were treated to a trip round the depot. Steam locos everywhere, including O classes which didn't seem to come further south. I think the experimental fawn and blue 31s were that on that day too. Great video again, excellent panning.

      There was a double bay at the Peterborough end of the station between the platforms where the branch trains from Wisbech & Spaling locals would use.

      I had it for haulage in mainline blue livery in the year 2000, from Warrington Bank Quay to Manchester Piccadilly. It was standing in for a failed 37/4. Happy days.

    Nice video, once again. March used to be a regular stop on the Manchester-Sheffield-Notts-Norwich service in the late 90s but seems to have been dropped since EMT got it, always wondered what it looked like. Seems like it was overdue a visit from the weed killing train at the time you visited!

      @@tom1works There were around 7 platforms at March from what i have seen, especially evident before those white fences were erected. There is a bay on the Peterborough platform, a double bay between the Ely & Spalding platform and of course a far side Spalding platform. The Wisbech service probably ran from the double bay, afairly large station with two main routes off it plus other lines that have closed, like the direst line to Cambridge that avoided Ely for instance....

      I used a Panasonic M series video camera, they took full sized VHS tapes. That way i never had to copy from small tapes to big ones, that was where you would lose quality. Later transferred to DVD and now on MP4 as well.....

    Yeah this is top notch again, marvellous u took all this footage! Max vol here in studio with 56061 on repeat blasting-off! Mate jus said 'sample that noise woteva that is' !! . . 37219 in its unique BR blue variation, does any body know when exactly Stratford re-painted it in all-over blue? My guess is @ early 1990 ?? Cheers :)

      That's about right. A friend of my fathers was a Shed Foreman there on the engineering side. They did all sorts of quirky stuff, 47 674 got a repaint in Large Logo blue using a tin of unstired NSE blue. The loco started in a light shade one end and got darker as the painter went around the loco!!!

    • @djtrainspotter3079
      @djtrainspotter3079 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha brilliant! Yes 674, thats why i could never work out if it was in the earlier lighter NSE blue or other dark blue blimey! Great story, SF was the best for loco enhancements, all them sparrows, grey roofs and black marker boxes eh. 47526 was given the same treatment as 674 i seem to remember. Talking of paints at SF, i jus put a vid on my channel about obtaining some BR blue there lol :)

      08 715 also got an all over yellow paint job but it was never actually used in that colour and just left stored, shame! But lots of old style paint jobs, 31 165, 37 216 and of course 219. Some of the staff were definatly 'cranks' and well into railways!

      Haha great stuff sir! Yeah i foto'd 08715 parked on its usual road outside 'C' shed in '93 after its paint into 'Dayglo orange' i seem to remember, fantastic memories there. And yes they were great staff, think i was only asked to leave once in about 50 visits i made between '87-99, and that was because it was a monday morning! . . keep these vids coming sir, i must of watched this over 10 times (my era) thanks :)

    Most enjoyable!nice to see there is still plenty of freight at march!The fine railwaymen of this location,fought hard to keep the march-Spalding line open!even keeping a single line in situ until
    1986!when the shortsighted BRB destroyed any hope of re opening it,and lifted the line!how right
    The men of march where as it is desperately needed now!!

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well there was plenty of freight action in 1992 but how much still passes i'm unsure, although it probably gets a lot of liner trains on the route from Felixstowe to the Midlands.
