My wife started to watch this video, we loved the crane machines in Margate UK. She asked me what was wrong with it, and i said "its broke" and with that Joe said the same. Great video 🤣
Am I the only one that wanted Joe to keep trying for the light bulb ? 😂 thanks for another cool video Joe ! Was interesting to see the inside of a claw machine !
I have seen some huge claw machines. When I say huge the claw is big enough to pick up a small child. On a different note, let me begin by quoting Larry the Cable Guy. "I'm cryin' if I'm lyin' and I ain't shed a tear. Years ago, I was at an arcade that had one of those jumbo claw machines. Somehow, a kid about 6 years old crawled inside the machine via the door where you collect your prize. Those who saw the kid inside the machine wound up laughing including the mom. My smart a$$ asked the mom "How much do you think it would cost to get him out?" Mom's response was "If you cannot get him out after 5 bucks, leave him." Fortunately, the manager came to get the kid out and gave him one of the prizes.
People will buy arcade machines as a way of preserving history and/or using them in a games room. Nice clean up of the Big Choice machine. Spider Stompin' was a very popular game in the early 00's, especially here in the UK. Great you have one for preservation and I'm sure it will find a loving home someday. Note you have the deluxe version there, so that's a special find. Not many are around these days, especially in fully working order.
the last thing I expected to see in a machine in the US was a 220V power socket/plug on that fluoro light at 15:30 in the video. that would explain why the 130V lamps need to be in pairs to work, since they are in series. that must be a 120V to 240V stepup transformer in there to run the lights.
Claw game idea: Write names of restaurants and meals on tennis balls and put in the machine. Then when the wife asks “What’s for dinner?” you let the skill of the player decide. Didn’t want pizza? Better luck next time!
@joe The flashing/flickering lights would've been really cool to have working. Would really bring the cool 1980's look You can probably find a suitable replacement transformer on digikey. Pinout/size might be slightly different, but modify the PCB to accommodate if necessary. Another option, you could always put a switch mode power supply module on the board. There's ones small enough, that they would fit where the transformer/cap are. The board probably uses 7400 logic, so would likely need 5V. Possibly 12V also.
I saw an episode of Pawn Stars where they had purchased a really old clar machine. The one where you turned knobs to move the claw. This particular machine only costs a nickel to play. The way you would put the coin in is by putting the nickel in the designated hole on a tray where you push the tray in and then pull it back out. Sort of like the coin slots on old washing machines at a laundromat, but in this case, you lay the coin flat. Anyway, my point to this is as a joke, Rick locked Chumlee's keys inside the machine and he had to pay to play to get them out.
Great work Joe. …not every machine you get requires major surgery to get it going. …. Hy is it that some folks will gladly pump in $10 to get a toy worth $1??? Never really understood that but I’ve seen it several times….
Here in Australia, we have an amusement company called 'Timezone' (We have a couple, but that's the biggest and most common one). Depending on the Timezone you go to will depend on what machines they have, they tend to only have 1 pinball machine, lots of sports type machines, etc... My favourite machines however are the coin pushers, and 3 of them in particular, 2 are made by Elaut, and the 3rd is made by a USA company called Andamiro. All 3 have cards that you when you collect the entire set, you get a huge boost of tickets. The 2 Elaut machines are "The Wizard of Oz" and "Willy Wonka", the Andamiro machine is "Avengers". They also have stacks of claw machines, but these days claw machines are a complete ripoff, you put in a 2AUD coin for 1 game and you might be lucky to actually win something. Back in the '80s and '90s, you could put in a 20cent AUD coin and the chance of winning was higher.
My local truck stop has one in excellent condition its huge though probably 2 or 3 of those put together . I love wining stuff out of them but it's hard
Not this one. It works with relays! It's like a mechanical pinball. It has no intelligence. Some cranes can give you a full strength grab every ten tries.
You just brought out the marquee bulbs. I think that needs 60V bulbs. German design. The Smart Crane looks much like it takes the 130V. I used to get them at Action Lighting, Boseman, MT. Not a sponsor.
You guys want the covers that go over the mechanism? I have a crane here that I'm about to flatten and burn. (It's pretty beat and I used it to make another one work). If so I can hook you up!
I think claw machines are super fun in a public aspect but I don’t understand the people who have claw machines for home use only. Maybe if you have kids it would be cool to have one
Torment your kids... Put the Nintendo switch game they always wanted into the machine. Set the machine to accept tokens. Only give the tokens if they do certains chores.

My granddaughter loves the Big Choice we bought from you.
Joe with the fancy footwork! Thanks for the video,
Insert mall music. 🎶

The boys churn out some really great videos people..can i get a witness people come on now? 🖐😑
Great video there Joe
Shame the lights didn't twinkle.. think it would have made it for that game
From the UK 🎉

Claw machines have a small footprint and are fun.

All my local Timezones here in Australia have those, huge ass machine that you could fit a small car into (such as a Mini Cooper S).

Good eye
There was also a European style convenience outlet inside the cabinet and a more European style switch.

Honey, I swear none of them have magnets in them - it's just lucky for me you seem to always pick my favorites! 🤭
With my skill level, I'll probably have nothing for dinner most nights😊
My kids and I used to play Spider Stomp all the time at the arcade. Good memories
I was screaming almost the whole second half of this PUT THAT COVER BACK ON! But you redeemed yourself in the last 15 seconds ;) Good one
I like when the restoration music kicks in.👍👾
Great video Joe, That was cool to see how you fixed the claw machine. Glad you were able to grab that blue stuffed animal. See you on the next video.
I remember those from the local Big Wheel store.
Thanks!😊
used to play one in the 80s like this but it was a horizontal styke cabinet, you'd look down into the glass.
let's refrigerate it and fill it full of beer
I love it. Hope we get to see some more odd game repairs.
@joe

If you're hosting a party you can put some interesting stuff in a claw machine for people to get.

I have the spider stomp game. Its fun for the kids and drunk adults 😅
Too bad you couldn't get the chase lites going. You'ld think they would have modern replacements for that... But nice clean up of a classic machine!
This better be full of Green Toy Story Aliens when I get to the end of watching
"Nirvana is coming. The mystic portal awaits."
Perfect for home use! Given my skill level, that machine could help me lose weight. I'd just put all the snacks in there! 😂
Maybe while you were up in the machine someone walks by and thought Maximum Overdrive was happening and the Crane Game took you out 😂 😂
I would think someone would want that in their house. I am one of those!
Claw machine in your home......I don't get it either. In any case it's nice to know that these machines have a continued life and will be preserved.
being able to test your skill without having to dump oodles of money with no real payoff, can be a fun thing for some people.
Spider Stompin Deluxe may need the roms dumped
That Defender met an unusual fate
Joe- check out "Big Choice" by Face to Face. A banger of a record that rocks!

yeah never been able to get one to stay in the claw give up around $15
My local truck stop has one in excellent condition its huge though probably 2 or 3 of those put together . I love wining stuff out of them but it's hard
Yeah it's hard to win from them
@LyonsArcade i actually won 3 toys out of them today spent $9 probably to much but I had fun
❓
How high does your ceiling have to be to fully open the front glass or take the glass out?
Thanks. 😎👍
About 10 feet!

Excellent. 😎
A scale I can relate to. 🥾🥾
Joe, Dont you know some claw machine they can ajust when squeze harder after a certain amount of money is put in?
Yes I do know that
Not this one. It works with relays! It's like a mechanical pinball. It has no intelligence. Some cranes can give you a full strength grab every ten tries.
Claw machines are super popular in Japan
The "machine most likely to get punched" award winner 2024.
Hey Joe!
@0:52 - If someone dropped one of these in my house, it would get filled with snacks and be a hit!
You just brought out the marquee bulbs. I think that needs 60V bulbs. German design. The Smart Crane looks much like it takes the 130V. I used to get them at Action Lighting, Boseman, MT. Not a sponsor.
Yes I ended up putting the 60v ones in
You guys want the covers that go over the mechanism? I have a crane here that I'm about to flatten and burn. (It's pretty beat and I used it to make another one work). If so I can hook you up!
i have this one an wanna do restore it so i was wondering if u have in info that could help me with that I would appreciate it
I would love to know what the estimated selling prices are on the machines after you fix them on your videos
I think you forgot one thing. Push the stuffed animals down tight like they do in arcades. A grip and a slip….😂
Had one was cool. Come on people you put a coin in it of course we love it ❤ 😂
That's not Joe my friend. That's an imposter!
I think claw machines are super fun in a public aspect but I don’t understand the people who have claw machines for home use only. Maybe if you have kids it would be cool to have one
I wonder if it's strong enough to lift like a small dog like a daschund perhaps
Hah, we had those in Belgium in the early/mid 90's
dam, no sound ?
This is from back in antiquity they didn't have any sound back then
What a rip off, lol.
Oh look, it's broke
if i had an x wife and kids i would buy them a spider stomper for xmas
Torment your kids... Put the Nintendo switch game they always wanted into the machine. Set the machine to accept tokens. Only give the tokens if they do certains chores.
What's the ratio for winning a toy
On these old ones they didn't have a setting for that
Yodelayheehoo
Reee-co-laaaaaa!
Bloomin' rip off machines 😇They're always broke, never work properly... or do they? 🤔
Reminds me of some folk here...they're always broke and never work 😆
Who would've guessed, there's a control inside to decide just how 'broke' it is, shameful 🤣
These claw machines are dag nasty evil. You had no chance back in the day... I am unsure how or why anyone spent money on them.
It’s rigged ..
