,French Rail and TGV system was so supreme and ahead on top of British rail system back in 1997 so is hard to belive just look , once crosed border is like back to GB Victorian railway times , great video thank you !
While it's essentially true that the third rail DC lines on which Eurostar ran in this video had seen no major upgrades since roughly 1920 (and therefore your comment re: the railways seeming Victorian is essentially correct), it's also a false equivalence. The TER is a much fairer comparison. I've ridden the TER a few times, where the TGV was not an option, and it's hardly any different from the condition of some of the most neglected GB railways.
Excellent video, i was actually wondered how far you went to Britain and what did you think of their railway network as a French railway enthusiast. The train crossed over in the tunnel because one end was closed due to a fire in 1996, right?
It was a pleasure to go to London by the old line, a typical British atmosphere that I love. For me it was a feat to run Eurostars on this infrastructure, a bit like if we had run Eurostars between St Nom la Bretèche and St Lazare station at the time of the 3rd rail. Indeed it was after the fire in December 1996 and the France-UK track was unavailable on more than half of the tunnel

Remember these trains very well i used to live near east malling and although not the main route they used they were regularly seen on weekend engineering diversions and during peak hours which was about 5 trains two up in morning peak and three down in evening peak although the 3rd one was often routed via bat and ball main reason the maidstone line wasnt used more was mainly speed limits and very tight curves esp at maidstone east itself max speed was about 80_85 mph and that was between bearsted and ashford also the maidstone route was the core route for channel tunnel freight trains as class 92,s were barred from redhill line which i believe is still the case today but the amount of freight using the tunnel has declined rather dramatically sadly but as i have said i used to spend a lot of weekends up at east malling and west malling stations and would easily see over 8 tunnel freights mostly double headed class 47,s and latterley class 66,s and 92,s as well as numerous eurostars if the tonbridge route was closed and quite often there were a fair few booked via maidstone on sundays even if the mainline was open not sure why maybe to allow for extra maintenance work either way its all consigned to the history books now as both the routes are no longer used and the original eurostar sets have largely been withdrawn after just 28 years in service bit wasteful could have shortend the sets and with their 3rd rail capability could have been used on domestic fast services had they not had their shoe gear removed happy memories.

@@231E22 Thank you! What was the time from Tonbridge to Ashford? And from Ashford to the portal (on the old third rail or the current HS1-what would the difference be)? Sorry to be bothersome, but I'm trying to analyze how Nightstar could have been made to work, and I want to know everything I can. For example, I read that Redhill-Tonbridge was electrified for Eurostar, but then I read that they couldn't run through Croydon due to clearance issues. Did the Eurostar ever run between Redhill and Tonbridge? And if so, how long did it take? Top speed was limited to 100 mph/160 kph on third rail, but the primary limitation was the inability to supply enough power, correct? Could that be circumvented using another power source such as a diesel generator or batteries to supplement the third rail? I seem to recall that there have been experimental vehicles powered by third rail that have gone much faster in various testing situations, so I don't think that it is a physical limitation of the actual contact between the rail and the train. I'm sorry if I'm bothering you, but I'm looking around for knowledge, and you seem to be knowledgeable.

Very good video. I really enjoyed it.
Bien représentative de l'age d'or d'Eurostar
Pourquoi l âge d or
Love how the startup of the Eurostar sounds like a TRAXX AC2.

The channel tunnel is a border between the uk and France

I have a few more waiting to be assembled.

How long did it take to get from the tunnel portal to Waterloo, with a stop at Ashford, before High Speed 1 opened?
1h20 via Ashford Tonbridge, 1h30 via Maidstone

À quelle heure le train était parti? Le numéro de tour était le 9015?

None electrified on England side??
750 V DC with a third rail
Another London terminus is named after a toy bear from Peru!
