10+ years ago I was watching Marty and leaning Nirvana songs now I'm watching Marty and learning Jimi Hendrix embellishments! Thanks for everything, Marty!
I can relate to this. I hadn’t touched a guitar in 10 years and wanted to learn Heart Shaped Box. Now I’m watching all of his Hendrix embellishment videos.
Marty thank you man from the bottom of an old totally blind musicians heart. I have always wanted to learn the circle of fifths I knew there was an easy way but I just never could figure it out. At the age of 33 I decided I would become a Guitar Player so I could accompany myself I was a singer and drummer. Well the age of 57 I was in a enjoyable rabbit hole on TH-cam and you said something that took me to this video and within five minutes I have something to practice for the rest of my life. That might not mean much to you let me tell you you help me peek over it Guitar Player. Man what I mean is I’m playing drums and bands guitar players do this all the time I go to jam sessions they do it all the time. But I couldn’t just see them and how the fingers move up the neck respectively. So you have opened the eyes of the blind and I thank you have a great rest of your life. You have truly created a wonderful TH-cam experience also enjoyed your Ed King interview.
I first saw Marty many years ago and quickly recognized him as not just a wonderful musician but an EXCELLENT teacher. I'm sure we all have stories about great guitar players who can't teach for shit. Marty is the man! Thanks Marty.
BE A SMARTY, LEARN FROM MARTY!!!!!! As a geezer, I am enjoying using a majority of my time playing and always continuing to learn guitar. I take lessons through a Veterans group. Your name comes up alot, as one of the best teachers if not the best teacher on YT. THANK YOU for helping a bunch of old Veterans. We grew up with a lot of the music you teach. It's a gas learning how to play some of it. Thanks again........ ...L8RG8R....🎸🎶🇺🇲😎
I've learnt a lot of Hendrix material from Marty here, in only five months. I mean, I've been learning.. I got a so very much long way to go. But this Major Chord class of today must be one of his best ever. He taught simple tricks, easy to play, but bring such a Hendrix like sound. Outstanding. Thank you very much, Marty master.
You have just blown my mind and taught me something I've went a life time without knowing. Looking at them as backwards power chords, or major chord inversions as you referred to them. When you play those little pentatonic hammer on and pull off licks, you always think of power chords. But moving up and down, and still never provokes you to look at them as backward power chords. Giving everyone a new prospective of looking at their playing and lick fills. This is the greatest lesson you ever did Marty. Please, feel free to keep blowing my mind. Doesn't happen often, but when it does. It feels too good. 🤣 🤣 🎸😎
I just want to stop playing for a moment and thank you for all your videos which helped me a lot over the years of my playing. I learned a lot from you. You are a Legend! Thank you! 🤘🏻
About the last comment! I’ve learned more in the past year and I’m ashamed to say how many years I’ve been playing! But when you have good teachers, that will explain things, a whole new world can open up! It’s not a competition, let’s have fun and become better guitar players! Doing something we truly love! Peace!
Hey Marty could you do a follow up lesson on how to construct a solo like Hendrix? There seems to be a huge shortage of those videos on TH-cam in general.
Hey bud good question - think this lesson actually answers it though. Hendrix solos using this very concept in Little Wing (with the exception of one minor pentatonic riff to add a little tension)
Marty, sometimes, some of us just don't get it until you relate the name of a concept to a simple fact. Your explanation and demonstration of a chord 'inversion' is spot on! Thank you and keep up the good work!
Marty, thank you soooo very much. I was a struggling guitar player until I found your sites, I have many of them locked in and practice with you daily. Your instructional skill has guided me to raise my level so much. I feel confident now. THANK YOU!!!
Hi Marty, this is another great, helpful and simple lesson for me. I am 65 now and learned guitar just by listening music. I wish I had a teacher like you in my youth. Really love your Videos. Thank you very much 👍👍👍
Marty, I just want to say thank you for this video. I have watched SO MANY dang videos trying to understand this Hendrix-y style of chords and embellishments and it just never made sense. For some reason this one just clicked and is changing my playing. THANK YOU!
Dear Marty. I've been watching you for years. And personally you've helped me a lot, to play the guitar. This lesson really opened my mind to a new concept of soloing. ---Your loyalty fan PS. My writing English is little rubies
You rock Marty! Thanks for the lessons. I am a jazz drummer from Puerto Rico and I picked up the guitar recently. I've learned a lot thanks to your videos.
What great teaching skills. It's rewarding that you not only show the fingering but that you add in a bit of music theory. "Inversion" Ha! haven't heard that in a while..... Thanks again, and again....
Marty! your teaching program is the easiest to follow my progress was zero until I found your site. Thanks for a great and very patient help for us oldies to understand. Kindest regards Rob Handford.
This was a killer little lesson/info. I know this is an old one but on that intro where he adds the 5th in the bass, I couldn’t figure out what chord it was supposed to be, or why it was shaped that way but now it’s all clear as mud! Lol thanks man, helped a lot!
Ive been watching your videos since i got a hand ne down guitar from my brother when i was 16 about 12 years now, thanks for the hours of free education id like to think im a proficient player now and its moslty been thanks to your free tutorials and theory lessons. Peace and love from the uk
I'm really looking forward to that Don't Let Me Down lesson, Marty! I definitely didn't expect you to connect that song to this lesson, but I'm glad you did! I've been wanting a good lesson on that song for a while.
I know what I'm working on this weekend. Brett does a Hey Joe, video and this breaks what he was doing down to the fine morels. I love this style of Blues. Can't wait to see more and thank you for it.
Major light bulb. Thanks man, now I understand why it works, as opposed to others who just tell you to go 2 frets up from the major shape. Cheers and happy new year
I think you read my mind with this lesson. I always wondered about the inverted chords. used, seen, and heard them played. never really understood the theory behind them. thanks....great lesson marty
Here I am - one of your lifetime guitarjamz grasshoppers. Always find my way over here for more good stuff. Love it all. Thanks so much. I haven't seen that you've done SRV "So Excited" - is one of my alltime favs. -- skiwime
Your lesson for Yellow Ledbetter led me to this one. I heard Pearl Jams influence on the first hammer-on. Never been a huge Jimi fan, but it looks like Im going to become a new study. These inverted chords sound fantastic and is getting me out of a rut of making rhetorical barr chord sounds. Thanks Marty.
You took just 5mins to un-lock a whole area of new (to me) bluesy technique goodness for me to experiment with! Great work mate, thanks! For free too!!
I already saw this hendrix tricks (hentrix) before, but thanks to this I can refine their execution. thanks, once again, marty. I can't wait to pick up my guitar
wow Im shocked that you're still doing what you're doing well done, I've been watching you're channel for about 6 years, you first taught me Johnny b goode and now Im rocking out to eruption, thanks marty
Great tips Marty. It's really helpful. Really appreciate to hear similar concept for minor chords. Actually I watched several videos on TH-cam but will be very happy to see your approach Best
Hey Marty, this was a great lesson. At the beginning, as you were explaining how to form the chord inversion with the 3rd in the bass, something occurred to me. You started by basing the chord on the "A" shape, and this meant that you would need to form the shape in an unconventional way: move your index finger up two frets to where your ring finger would normally be, and then find the 3rd on the 5th string (a full step up from where your index finger is barred). Well, what you're basically doing is playing the "G" shape, but without playing the 6th string :-). (The "G" shape is always the next one after the "A" shape, in the "CAGED" sequence.) See what I mean? So in a way, I think that's a more "natural" way to understand how the chord is being voiced with the 3rd in the bass -- you're playing a "G" shape which has the root on the 6th string, but you're not playing the 6th string, which means that you're voicing the chord with the 3rd (on the 5th string) as the lowest note.
Brilliant absolutely loved this lesson extremely useful thank you so much. I'm always sharing and spreading the word and love for this channel and your fantastic Teaching skills. much love from the isle of wight UK
Cheers Marty ur lessons are so good to follow, I find a lot of lessons people show u something but it's at lightning speed and even with a rewind button it can still be a pain so I like how u repeat it, slow it dwn and go through it without droaning on so well done hahaha
10+ years ago I was watching Marty and leaning Nirvana songs now I'm watching Marty and learning Jimi Hendrix embellishments! Thanks for everything, Marty!
Same homie lol
Same homie lol
Same here amigo!
that is cool I bet your an ausem player!!!
I can relate to this. I hadn’t touched a guitar in 10 years and wanted to learn Heart Shaped Box. Now I’m watching all of his Hendrix embellishment videos.
When Marty explains, I simply understand. Such a great teacher.
Agreed
So true
Yea he doesn't beato things for sure!
Marty thank you man from the bottom of an old totally blind musicians heart.

It's taken me 3 years to get here but I now understand this with clarity....you rock!!!
You make me understand why Hendrix was in a class by himself.
I appreciate the way you get right to the teaching without too much
elaboration.
This is my favorite lesson of all your lessons.

25 years and I have finally learned how to play Hendrix style. Thank you Marty!
Marty bro if you ever see this. I love you. Every time I watch a video of yours it's game changing and I level up like 10 times.
Marty- I think I used to jam with you in Rockville and Bethesda and I just wanted to say what a pleasure it has been to watch your videos! Cheers!
Man I have been hearing something in my head when I have been playing, and rewatching this helped me figure it out. Thx Marty.
Great job explaining the reasoning, not just saying where fingers go!
Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks Marty.
Thank you for going out of your way to not be confusing. Your instruction methods make this much easier than others
Thanks Marty. A whole new level of respect for Mr.Hendrix. So much Jazz style influence here.

Best lesson on hendrix major cords Marty👍
Thank you! I noticed that it's also part of the pentatonic scale shape. I can't wait to try this!!
Correct. Anything using notes 1,2,3,5,6 of a scale will fit nicely in pentatonic shapes
thanks for this bro, ive been struggling with inversions and this helped me sooo much!! Hendrix is a legend!!!
And yes Marty your lessons are the easiest to understand and grasp that I've seen from anybody.
Another brilliant lesson. Thank you Marty, I have learnt more from you than any other book, CD, or video tuition. All the best Mark Smith.
There is months worth of gold in this class alone. Thank you so much :)
Wow it’s really been 3 years of me watching Marty music thank you so much for the tutorials, time to finally learn the theory
This was mesmerizing to watch! Great way to explain one of the quintessential Jimi techniques!
This lesson ties in great with the "UnCAGED" lessons on your site! Great lesson Marty! Chris aka "Scott" .
You rock Marty! Thanks for the lessons. I am a jazz drummer from Puerto Rico and I picked up the guitar recently. I've learned a lot thanks to your videos.
This is one of my favorite videos you've made. THANK YOU!
Thanks Marty from the past.

The tone is beautiful with these chords
Your lesson for Yellow Ledbetter led me to this one. I heard Pearl Jams influence on the first hammer-on. Never been a huge Jimi fan, but it looks like Im going to become a new study. These inverted chords sound fantastic and is getting me out of a rut of making rhetorical barr chord sounds. Thanks Marty.
Aweasome lesson.👍 this is what I’m currently working on to add interest to my 1,4,5 and other simple chord progressions. Thank you.
Glad to see you back, Happy New Year!
Awesome lesson Marty. You can hear so many songs and licks in this. Fabulous Thanks !
Crazy lesson. Really connects the relative minor shape to the A shape 5th string root. Ahh inversions were scary but I'v finally got one in my bag.
Wow Marty, that really opened up my world
this was very eye opening, great video. unlike most concepts, this one was easy to utilize immediately!

That might be one of the best guitar lessons I have ever seen..Thanks
Good job, great lesson. I must say, for teaching, you have a gift.
Great tips Marty. It's really helpful. Really appreciate to hear similar concept for minor chords. Actually I watched several videos on TH-cam but will be very happy to see your approach
Best
Awesome lesson Marty! Always found this concept so difficult but this lesson really simplifies how to do it
Excellent lesson mate ...
Hey Marty, this was a great lesson. At the beginning, as you were explaining how to form the chord inversion with the 3rd in the bass, something occurred to me. Mind blown. Thanks
Great guitar player with the same amount of humility, much appreciated Marty
Fantastic lesson. So much information packed into this video.
Nice job on this! I've been really thankful for you and your work here.
