Mentioning the 360 flip challenge with Big Black made me sub to you immediately. That's my #1 core memory with the Skate series. Me, my bro, and my 3 cousins took turns trying to get that mission done while watching Total Drama Island 😭. The adolescence was immaculate, and I'll never have that feeling again. It took us at least 45 minutes.
Your last part actually made me realize something. I legit don't remember the last time a multiplayer game released with a fully integrated map editor that people could create and play their own maps. Mario Maker 2? Halo Reach?? That seems like a thing publishers shut down because it's too much free content to give costumers they can't monetize. That's crazy and sad at the same time.
my favorite is the first one, its the hole reason i love skateboarding as a hobby, sport and way of expression. i think the best song choice for the franchise was express yourself by nwa. it is exactly what skating is, a form of expression when people around us didn't care to understand us or where to busy to try. a community of crazy bros with a plank of wood and wheels seeing what lines they can make is one of the most relaxing nirvana feelings you can have as a spectator and a thrill ride unlike any other if your on the board. all in all loved the vid been here since day almost one and im patently excited for the next vid.

This is one of the best reviews of the series I've seen. Only thing I can really say is that you can't really comment on adidas encouraging to buy their shoes being intrusive then pitch your sponsor. They both are there for the same reason. It's a partnership you respect, and they're both mutually beneficial. I feel content creators have a tendency to forget that game developers take on sponsors for the same reasons content creators do. Again this is a really really good review. Great video. Wish you pointed out how fun it is to get off your board and hit people with either throwing the board or with the punch emote in Skate 3. I used to spend hours doing that then skating away when people got mad. It was kinda my GTA as I couldn't play GTA as a kid. Also attaching to cars to build speed was so much fun. Yeah Skate 3 will always be my favorite, it's just so goofy but also rewarding with its systems.

The ending talking about how your parents didn’t let you skate really resonated with me. I was never allowed to either and by the time I could I had too much other responsibilities and now I’m married with a kid and breaking an arm or leg would put them in jeopardy because I would miss work. About Skate 2's performance, if you disable VSYNC through video settings, the game ends up feeling a lot smoother because it doesn't keep jumping between 60 and 30fps all the time. It still does not run as smooth as 3, and you end up with some screen tearing but its a big improvement in my opinion. Also you can switch between "dynamic" music and just the normal music player in the settings to alleviate the problem of the game being silent too often. Great retrospective video
I have literally been making this video for my own channel for months and haven't perfected it so seeing it on your channel is both saddening but also makes me happy knowing that when I release it there will be an audience. I still play Skate 1 and 3 all the time and love them so much. 2 is great I just don't have it on my xbox right now lol
Oh snap, finally Thrasher Skate & Destroy got a mention! I really love that game as a kid. It was indeed more realistic compared to THPS as it also has a health bar that if depleted, your run ends. And it also has the time limit when depleted, depending on the location, the police will chase you and the POV will switch to theirs. I also love the physics of the game. I'd always get my skater bump into a subway train just to see him get juggled everywhere. But yeah, said game is hard especially at the end game. You really have to do every trick in the book for bonus variety points to pass the level.
I think for me what made this game special was it was just fun and satisfying to play, it’s crazy how simple it is, but how satisfying the gameplay loop actually was

I think the Tripple-A "free-to-play" game model is coming to a head this year where we're going to see big IP's fail horrifically. Games that will never work with a free-to-play model have had millions pumped into them with delusional executives thinking it'll be their greatest cash cow. Skate is going to be EA's failure. There is no way to keep the heart of a skate game alive while slicing the game up a million and one ways to be nickle and dimed out to players. And the worst thing will be the hundreds of devs that lose their job, while the executives wash their hands clean of their own failure.
My biggest flaw of Skate 3 is that I couldn't do the platinum trophy because some of the trophies were locked behind paid content unless you had the original copy
Although I share some of your worries, I think skate is perfectly suited for other kinds of monetisation too. Corporations like EA has indeed found out that in total, people spend more money on expressing themselves than they spend on player-separating things like unlocking maps and different missions. I think Skate has much of the same potential as apps like Snapchat, where it's not the user who pays for cosmetics, but the brands who do. Because of how software iteratively develops these days and how everything can be easily connected to real life dynamic data. I also think it's easier to connect game to real life events and locations. Of course with a lot of brands so interconnected to the game, there is a higher risk of them pushing things like intrusive ads but I'd happily pay a certain sum to avoid that if that's all I need to pay. In general, I think a cross-platform game without player-separating mechanics will overweigh slightly shitty monetisation practices in the long term, but of course that depends of how shitty.
I finally got the ps3 emulator on my pc I've played all of the skate games but never wholey completed them (though I have got the 1,000,000 boards in skate 3) but now, starting from skate 1. I'm 100% them all (all the missions not the achievements)
Man if only I was there for Skate 2, or earlier for Skate 3; Maybe I'd have much more appreciation for the games. But, alas I'm just only able to sit and hope for Skate 4 (Or maybe Skate 4 Free?) I'm kind of hoping its a upfront cost and we'll get a full game. And can just buy post-game clothes and characters MTX style. I'd be able to accept that. If you buy skate 2 from the 360 marketplace on a laptop or phone you can download it on your Xbox. The site is a pain in the ass but worth it if you can make it work.

The best thing about the skate games was that you could try to make it as realistic looking as possible. The satisfaction of placing a bench somewhere and doing a simple kick flip to manual to shove-it or something was so refreshing compared to the ridiculous tricks you’d do in tony hawks.

So, when I saw that you were covering Skate of all series, I was so extremely excited to see what you had to say. Skate 3 is one of those games that took over my childhood for a time. I can remember playing it, finding out how to break, discovering funny glitches, and just destroying my character in the Hall of Meat. Having trouble with Robs tre flip crook is so relatable. For me that was the challenge that took me from struggling at the game to mastering it. I practiced that tre flip for days. After that the game and all its tricks just made perfect sense to me. I think skater xl and session are cool and great but skate will always be my preferred control scheme and style.

Back to when me amd my brother would just play music on our cd boom box and just play with a "switch controllers after 3 bails rules" and just chilling. Good times. Back to when me amd my brother would just play music on our cd boom box and just play with a "switch controllers after 3 bails rules" and just chilling. Good times. This video also reminded my when the skate 3 community was actually alive and they had the in game community share feature and I miss just eating junk food and scrolling through other people's spots
Edit: omg... Hearing skate. Will be a free to play game like almost entirely KILLED all excitement I've had, I still gonna get it the second it comes out and keep up with it, but the free to play moto really has me worried about this games future
