More Secrets: Randomly throughout your playthrough of Deltarune, you can look at Kris's stats and see a dog that is asleep, and sometimes Ralsei's Kindness stat turns into Dogness If you try to drop the egg the game responds, "what egg?" and the egg disappears The room after the maze where you have to not follow Lancer and Susie, you can go out of bounds. If you try to call inside this room your game will crash. Kris is an anagram of Frisk but without the F The .exe file name changes as you're playing the game from "The Dark" "The Return" "The Death" and after you beat the game it turns back to "Deltarune" After you beat the game, you can start a new game and instead of going to school, you can go to sleep. Going to sleep makes you spawn in the Dark World. If you buy a Spookysword and keep it until the end of your playthrough, when you return to the town, the item in your hand will be a "Halloween Pencil" If you make your machine all duck, the confirmation changes from "This is your machine" to "This machine sucks ass." If you look at in the beds in the card castle, Kris's rank will change from Leader to Bed Inspector If you give Toriel the flowers from Asgore, and leave the house, the trashcan's floral scent increases There is unused dialogue in the game's code which seems to be Gaster You can go into your save file and change the room number and move to any room in the game. when you go to the fridge with the egg, there's already another egg there. I think it has something to do with the original Gaster(not the one in the void), who is associated with this world's Asgore. So in Deltarune, there's actually 2 gasters!
Maybe it's just me, but doesn't all the "happy town" setting give somewhat the feeling that something is wrong, or maybe just kinda off? This is the outside world, monsters are (supposed to be) free, as if this was the best outcome possible of a Pacifist Run in Undertale. Or maybe some AU setting where war between humans and monsters never broke, so the two races always lived peacefully together. Still... 1. There are no humans in town, except for obviously Kris. Humans aren't even mentioned, monsters don't talk about them, almost as if they didn't acknowledge their existence. At first it struck me how Kris was the only human kid in the class, but then I realized that he's the only human kid in the whole place. 2. No one has the happy life they seemed to be going to get at the end of Undertale. Undyne and Alphys are complete strangers when they're supposed to be a couple, Bratty and Catty talk about one another as horrible people when they should be best friends, and even the two soldiers (which should be lovers) are still in the "bro" phase. Alphys is clearly insecure and lonely, and when you knock at Napstablook's door it seems like Mettaton is responding (with that trademark "darling"), but he doesn't want to open the door out of shyness, which is very strange of him. Not to mention what's happening to poor Asgore. 3. What's the deal with Asriel. Yeah I know this is sort of The Big Mystery of the whole game, still I can't help but get an uneasy feeling every time someone mentions him or he's referenced, almost like something bad happened to him but everybody is pretending "he just went to college". Has anyone noticed how the "two halves" of the room look different in Kris' room? His side is almost dull, while Asriel's is all shiny and covered in trophys. Everybody remembers Azzy fondly and talks about how him and Kris were close as brothers, and probably Kris misses him greatly. Ralsei (same letters as Asriel, also "the prince of an empty kingdom") looks almost the same as Az, and that's probably why Susie was so shocked when he showed his true appearance. Is Kris somehow projecting nostalgia for his brother into that "other world"? EDIT: this might be me speculating too much, but Toriel mentioned giving Kris a headband with red horns because he wanted to grow horns when he was younger. And we all saw Ralsei having pinkish-red horns instead of white ones, right? 4. The town itself gives some creepy vibes, like the long, silent road which leads to the ominous red door. Music is a very important part of the Undertale universe, and the most powerful track is indeed silence. When silence happens it's disturbing, almost chilling. That long road was long, like insanely long, because of the silence. And then there's the red door, locked, with the Gaster theme and green vines covering it. I'm probably not the only one who tried to make a phone call there, out of the feeling that the phone wouldn't have worked. It did, and it was nice to hear Toriel's voice, it made me almost snap out of that feeling of extreme danger I was having. Also, a part of the road is blocked by police barriers, and that seems to be the only way out of town - the other side is closed by a lake (with no bridges and no boats), and everywhere else it's forest. If you wander around for a bit, it actually feels more trapping than the Underground somehow. 5. Sans. he acts like he knows Kris, or better, likes he knows you, the player. He's all goofy and jokey sure, but he does say some pretty interesting stuff "sans style" (and I don't mean the "befriended" your mother thing). I'm sure everyone pretty much screamed upon seeing him (I sure did) and rushed to speak to him. And his answers can be summed up with "why are you acting as if we knew each other? because we don't know each other. Except we do, but I'm not straight up saying that". He says so in his usual almost taunting fashion, giving remarks like "you can't just jump into friendship, it takes time", then proceeds to give you his phone number, but it's not his real number. Just a prank, maybe? He is indeed a prankster. But aside for the farting handshake, sans' jokes have never been just simple jokes. Even the secret codeword thing was disguised as a joke. And yeah I know I said that I didn't mean the "befriended" your mother thing, but actually, sans just said he has no idea who Kris is, and then openly states that he knows both his mother and teacher. And again, he taunts you brutally with the "I befriended your mother last night" thing. Enough for a Megalovania background moment! To me, it felt like sans was telling us "I know who you are, and be damn sure that I'm watching you". TL;DR - The whole monster town felt somehow like a strange dream, where things seem to be nice and fine but there's an uneasy feeling creeping around every corner, keeping the player on edge. I am super hyped for Chapter 2, and thank you Merg for this video covering some of the most juicy secrets (like the Gaster theme and the egg thing!).
Thanks guys! Those were my first impressions (I had just played Deltarune when I wrote that comment), and if you want to discuss it more I'm open to hear different opinions and views! Like the "it's all Survey Program made by Gaster to get out of the Void" theory, or the "the Dark World is the real one, while the city is fake" theory. I'd love to know what y'all think :)

I don't know if it's relevant, but the Deltarune program is called "Survey Program" (at let for the Mac version). Could it mean that Toby gathers data from how we created the character and makes a new character from that? Perhaps the "vessel" will be the protagonist after absorbing Kris'es soul? That would be interesting
Someone said this before: Jevis said that we made a prison for ourself and throw Jevil to his little freedom (or something like that). Could this mean that it's a reference that Jevil have "freedom" of choices and others not? Jevil knows that he is in a game, and the monsters are just participants that only follows the plot and can't make a choices other than what's written in the plot. He also said "I can do anything", which means he has a freedom of choices. He can do anything he wants, not bounded by the plot. I don't know, but it's pretty interesting...

Something I personally found interesting when you try to sell devilsknife (idk about jevilstail) to seam he says "that's nothing" the same text that you will get if you try to sell an empty slot
It is very interesting to see Gaster never really showing up but being hidden in all sorts of references. He is at the same time everywhere, but nowhere.
Some other cool secrets in the game: - You can equip (or try to equip) armor/weapons, or give food to your party members, and they'll say unique lines. - When you first get Ralsei, if you walk instead of run, he'll comment upon it. - Depending on the party member, if you give them a Choco Diamond/Hearts Donut, they'll recover 80hp, 10hp more than the Darkburger. Save the Choco Diamonds for Kris, and the Hearts Donut for Susie. - When you get the White Ribbon, if you equip it on Ralsei instead of Kris, he'll act surprised and ask him if he looks cute :) - Now, this one is pretty interesting. If you die, mashing [Z] will make your party instantly go back to your last save point, instead of having to wait through the game over cutscene. - When you wake up at the beginning of the game, if you go back to sleep, you'll skip school, and go straight into the Dark World. However, when you wake up there, you can get a Wrist Protector, which can allow you to skip lots of text by holding [C]. - Not many people know about this, but when you follow Susie/Susie follows you, if you run instead of walk, in the Overworld and in the Dark World, she'll comment on it. I think we, as the players, inserted ourselves in Kris, our vessel to interact in the world. But Kris already had a life, personality and story (as shown when you overwrite Kris' save file), so at the end of the game, he breaks free from our control to be his normal self again... And apparently, "his normal self" is not someone benevolent...
I mean, look at Alphys when Kris enters late. She doesn't punish them or speak ill. She does punish nor speak ill of Susie when she enters late. Then again, the other kids seem to LIKE Kris. Maybe Kris is a little malevolent. Or maybe Kris is just pissed off because the Player took them as a vessel. /shrug
also note how everyone in town told Kris that he wasn't looking too well, as if he was sick or smth. so from Kris' point of vue, we're just rude intruders who took over his life for a whole day lol

A theory I have is the entire point of Deltarune is it's an experiment. The "vessel", the alternate timeline that feels so familiar and yet so wrong, there's something off about all of it, Kris ripping out their soul..... what if the Gaster tie-in is it's literally an experiment he's doing on a human
Seam, Gaster and Gerson all have a closed or semi-closed eye, one "open" one, and a smile. Both shopkeepers also seem to know some vital information about Gaster. Interesting how Gerson is dead in Deltarune...

Just gonna say - the descriptor for the egg describes it as "not important, but not unimportant". When Shom talks about Jevil, he says that after speaking with the "strange someone" he started saying things that "didn't make sense, but didn't not make sense". This might be pushing it a bit but... possible connection is possible?

well, in undertale, Gaster is described as ' The man/ a man '. if you go infront of the tree in the hidden room, it will say ` There is *a man* behind the tree `. it may likely be Gaster. Seam described that Jevil was talking to was described as ' Someone '. it may be possible that ' a man ' or ' Someone ' could possibly Gaster or one of his followers. although it may be impossible that its one of his followers, take note that in the end of the game. when you go into the library, you see a snake like thing. which is just a colored version of one of Gaster's followers. and he is blocking the upper floor. yet, i think that on the upper floor, there might be a hidden room. it may be accesible to FUN vALUE or whatever Deltarune's Fun value is called. is how you enter that hidden room, but its just a thought. Chapter 2 is *probably* still in the making. so its not official yet.
Does anyone notice that in Undertale during Omega Floweys monologue before he fights you he says, "Humans. Monsters. Everyone. I'll show them all the true meaning of this world!" When he says humans, his face changes to one similar to Frisks. When he says monsters, his face changes to Toriels. Then he says everyone and his face changes to something very similar to the button on Seams face. Who could "everyone" refer to? Darkners?

Wait... When you put the egg in the fridge and check again, the dialogue says there are *TWO* eggs in the fridge...? Also, in the room where you find the man giving the egg to you, notice that there is *only kris* in the room... Not with Susie or Ralsei, just *kris* .. Does that mean that only Kris could enter the room? And also, that tree could also be found with the Caterpillar that looks like dango... Hmmm.. Edit: Also, don't you find it strange that Asgore has 7 flowers with the colors of the 7 souls from Undertale?? Including the yellow one which also signifies Flowey...
The coloration on the flowers is interesting. One color is missing, replaced by gold instead. And that color is orange (bravery). No clue why or if it is significant, but it stuck out to me as an odd break in established patterns. edit: There's a flower that looks orange to me, which would make the replaced one red, which would make more sense, or at least be more obviously significant. But when it's checked I'm pretty sure it claims to be red. If someone could confirm or disprove that, I'd appreciate it. edit2: I checked it out and the orange-looking flower actually gets reported as orange, making the missing flower the red one. I apologize for the earlier erroneous information. I must have been really tired the first time I saw that.
The egg is interesting. When you are back in the surface, only have the egg from your adventure. I think is important. And the "man" is a reference from Undertale i think "The man who speak witch hands(gaster)" "The man who comes from another world (maybe Gaster from Deltarune). Maybe he create us in the begining (there is the Gaster theme) to control Kris(chara) but at the end in that night Kris can control his soul and throw our soul into the cage, and he/she can continue his/her plan.
If you start a new game and go through everything again (after previously putting an egg in the fridge) it'll say there's already one egg in the fridge
i might be the only one who thinks this, but i think it became two eggs because there is already a pickle in the fridge. combine them and... yeah, i'm the only one who thinks that way.
Theory: Gaster used to be a scientist/teacher at the school, (in the empty room) who found the portal to the dark world coincidentally in the school. He then set up a lab, and went into the dark world. He fought his way back to the real world, but he wasn’t the hero of the prophecy, so it instead sent him to the world of Undertale. He wasn’t the hero, so he couldn’t return back. He set up a lab, meeting people he knew from the world of Deltarune in the underground. He enlisted Alphys’ and Sans’ help, and got to work extracting and infusing determination into monsters. He eventually made a mistake, resulting in an accident bringing him to the dark world again. He found Jevil, and made friends with him, regaling stories of the underground, and teaching him about choices, and the futility of them. All the while, Gaster was trying to find a way back. He never did. One day he found a strange glowing orb. It was calling to him. He reached out to it, and felt power. He then lived out the rest of his life, and on the day of his death realized he still had so much to learn. He tried to keep his eyes open, as he was determined to live. Eventually they closed, and he saw a blinding light. He was back at that exact moment where he touched the orb. I think the save file that Kris overrides is Gasters, and that being in the accident with the Determination Extractor infused him with determination. He then went on the Flowey path, trying and testing everything he could to leave the dark world. It eventually drove him mad, so he ran and hid, waiting for the hero to release him back to the real world. I don’t know why he gave Kris the egg, but I know it will end up playing a part somehow. Gaster will return in Deltarune Part 2. This world is his experiment. And I think we will find this next experiment Very Very Interesting

When you pacify Jevil he says "unfortunately, you kids cannot have such a pleasent dream. From now, a nightmare will awake in your hearts" After kris goes to bed he can't sleep, like he's having a nightmare, and tears out his heart seemingly possessed by chara Seems like Jevil knew what he was talking about

I think it’s for those who played Deltarune first before playing Undertale, come to hear about Undertale, then play that afterwards. Perhaps something will happen to Susie, enough that might entice such players to investigate Undertale.
14:17 you can access this room consistently by starting in the right room, going left and holding right while the screen goes black to transition between the rooms. From what I can tell it's easier in full-screen mode.

+Danzignan Well that can be true, but the game implies in several dialogues that Kris seemed unfamiliar with things you did or participated in, which kind of gives a hint that you, the player, are not Kris, you just started controlling him when the game began, and that somewhat leads to you being the soul, and the game also implies that Kris didn’t have friends, and was creepy and weird, but he changed when you started controlling him. I’m not quite sure myself, but it’s really interesting to discuss it, well, I suppose our theories will be debunked in the coming chapters, can’t wait.
It's just so cool that both Undertale and Deltarune have an entire story being told in between the dialogue and side characters. It's something many players won't even catch unless you really look. I think it's neat Toby Fox manages to do that so well.

Randomly throughout your playthrough of Deltarune, you can look at Kris's stats and see a dog that is asleep, and sometimes Ralsei's Kindness stat turns into Dogness
If you try to drop the egg the game responds, "what egg?" and the egg disappears
The room after the maze where you have to not follow Lancer and Susie, you can go out of bounds. If you try to call inside this room your game will crash.
Kris is an anagram of Frisk but without the F
The .exe file name changes as you're playing the game from "The Dark" "The Return" "The Death" and after you beat the game it turns back to "Deltarune"
After you beat the game, you can start a new game and instead of going to school, you can go to sleep. Going to sleep makes you spawn in the Dark World.
If you buy a Spookysword and keep it until the end of your playthrough, when you return to the town, the item in your hand will be a "Halloween Pencil"

I think it has something to do with the original Gaster(not the one in the void), who is associated with this world's Asgore.
So in Deltarune, there's actually 2 gasters!
Maybe it's just me, but doesn't all the "happy town" setting give somewhat the feeling that something is wrong, or maybe just kinda off?
This is the outside world, monsters are (supposed to be) free, as if this was the best outcome possible of a Pacifist Run in Undertale. Or maybe some AU setting where war between humans and monsters never broke, so the two races always lived peacefully together. Still...
1. There are no humans in town, except for obviously Kris. Humans aren't even mentioned, monsters don't talk about them, almost as if they didn't acknowledge their existence. At first it struck me how Kris was the only human kid in the class, but then I realized that he's the only human kid in the whole place.
2. No one has the happy life they seemed to be going to get at the end of Undertale.
Undyne and Alphys are complete strangers when they're supposed to be a couple, Bratty and Catty talk about one another as horrible people when they should be best friends, and even the two soldiers (which should be lovers) are still in the "bro" phase.
Alphys is clearly insecure and lonely, and when you knock at Napstablook's door it seems like Mettaton is responding (with that trademark "darling"), but he doesn't want to open the door out of shyness, which is very strange of him. Not to mention what's happening to poor Asgore.
3. What's the deal with Asriel. Yeah I know this is sort of The Big Mystery of the whole game, still I can't help but get an uneasy feeling every time someone mentions him or he's referenced, almost like something bad happened to him but everybody is pretending "he just went to college".
Has anyone noticed how the "two halves" of the room look different in Kris' room? His side is almost dull, while Asriel's is all shiny and covered in trophys. Everybody remembers Azzy fondly and talks about how him and Kris were close as brothers, and probably Kris misses him greatly. Ralsei (same letters as Asriel, also "the prince of an empty kingdom") looks almost the same as Az, and that's probably why Susie was so shocked when he showed his true appearance.
Is Kris somehow projecting nostalgia for his brother into that "other world"?
EDIT: this might be me speculating too much, but Toriel mentioned giving Kris a headband with red horns because he wanted to grow horns when he was younger. And we all saw Ralsei having pinkish-red horns instead of white ones, right?
4. The town itself gives some creepy vibes, like the long, silent road which leads to the ominous red door.
Music is a very important part of the Undertale universe, and the most powerful track is indeed silence. When silence happens it's disturbing, almost chilling. That long road was long, like insanely long, because of the silence. And then there's the red door, locked, with the Gaster theme and green vines covering it.
I'm probably not the only one who tried to make a phone call there, out of the feeling that the phone wouldn't have worked. It did, and it was nice to hear Toriel's voice, it made me almost snap out of that feeling of extreme danger I was having.
Also, a part of the road is blocked by police barriers, and that seems to be the only way out of town - the other side is closed by a lake (with no bridges and no boats), and everywhere else it's forest. If you wander around for a bit, it actually feels more trapping than the Underground somehow.
5. Sans. he acts like he knows Kris, or better, likes he knows you, the player. He's all goofy and jokey sure, but he does say some pretty interesting stuff "sans style" (and I don't mean the "befriended" your mother thing).
I'm sure everyone pretty much screamed upon seeing him (I sure did) and rushed to speak to him. And his answers can be summed up with "why are you acting as if we knew each other? because we don't know each other. Except we do, but I'm not straight up saying that".
He says so in his usual almost taunting fashion, giving remarks like "you can't just jump into friendship, it takes time", then proceeds to give you his phone number, but it's not his real number. Just a prank, maybe? He is indeed a prankster. But aside for the farting handshake, sans' jokes have never been just simple jokes. Even the secret codeword thing was disguised as a joke.
And yeah I know I said that I didn't mean the "befriended" your mother thing, but actually, sans just said he has no idea who Kris is, and then openly states that he knows both his mother and teacher. And again, he taunts you brutally with the "I befriended your mother last night" thing. Enough for a Megalovania background moment!
To me, it felt like sans was telling us "I know who you are, and be damn sure that I'm watching you".
TL;DR - The whole monster town felt somehow like a strange dream, where things seem to be nice and fine but there's an uneasy feeling creeping around every corner, keeping the player on edge.
I am super hyped for Chapter 2, and thank you Merg for this video covering some of the most juicy secrets (like the Gaster theme and the egg thing!).

Yeah I can see the Gasterness in Shawn's face. He's just missing the other scar and his wide eye is on the other side.
It is very interesting to see Gaster never really showing up but being hidden in all sorts of references. He is at the same time everywhere, but nowhere.
That is actually a perfect way to put it...
You could say he's omnipresent
Lots of motifs and clues and hidden things and all kind of stuff, looks like Gaster is being revealed in Chapter 2 or Chapter 3 or later.
Some other cool secrets in the game:
- You can equip (or try to equip) armor/weapons, or give food to your party members, and they'll say unique lines.
- When you first get Ralsei, if you walk instead of run, he'll comment upon it.
- Depending on the party member, if you give them a Choco Diamond/Hearts Donut, they'll recover 80hp, 10hp more than the Darkburger. Save the Choco Diamonds for Kris, and the Hearts Donut for Susie.
- When you get the White Ribbon, if you equip it on Ralsei instead of Kris, he'll act surprised and ask him if he looks cute :)
- Now, this one is pretty interesting. If you die, mashing [Z] will make your party instantly go back to your last save point, instead of having to wait through the game over cutscene.
- When you wake up at the beginning of the game, if you go back to sleep, you'll skip school, and go straight into the Dark World. However, when you wake up there, you can get a Wrist Protector, which can allow you to skip lots of text by holding [C].
- Not many people know about this, but when you follow Susie/Susie follows you, if you run instead of walk, in the Overworld and in the Dark World, she'll comment on it. (Thanks WolfLink!)

I think we, as the players, inserted ourselves in Kris, our vessel to interact in the world. But Kris already had a life, personality and story (as shown when you overwrite Kris' save file), so at the end of the game, he breaks free from our control to be his normal self again...
And apparently, "his normal self" is not someone benevolent...
I mean, look at Alphys when Kris enters late. She doesn't punish them or speak ill. She does punish nor speak ill of Susie when she enters late. Then again, the other kids seem to LIKE Kris. Maybe Kris is a little malevolent. Or maybe Kris is just pissed off because the Player took them as a vessel. /shrug
I think in Chapter 2 there will be a new player (human) and will probably live with Toriel

A theory I have is the entire point of Deltarune is it's an experiment. The "vessel", the alternate timeline that feels so familiar and yet so wrong, there's something off about all of it, Kris ripping out their soul..... what if the Gaster tie-in is it's literally an experiment he's doing on a human

When Shom talks about Jevil, he says that after speaking with the "strange someone" he started saying things that "didn't make sense, but didn't not make sense".
This might be pushing it a bit but... possible connection is possible?

@@rox3893 Maybe. I think the "Man" you get the egg from is the same as the person who Jevil begins talking to, but we currently have little in the way of evidence that it's actually Gaster.
well, in undertale, Gaster is described as ' The man/ a man '.
if you go infront of the tree in the hidden room, it will say ` There is *a man* behind the tree `. it may likely be Gaster. Seam described that Jevil was talking to was described as ' Someone '.
it may be possible that ' a man ' or ' Someone ' could possibly Gaster or one of his followers.
although it may be impossible that its one of his followers, take note that in the end of the game. when you go into the library, you see a snake like thing. which is just a colored version of one of Gaster's followers. and he is blocking the upper floor.
yet, i think that on the upper floor, there might be a hidden room. it may be accesible to FUN vALUE or whatever Deltarune's Fun value is called. is how you enter that hidden room, but its just a thought.
Chapter 2 is *probably* still in the making. so its not official yet.

Then he says everyone and his face changes to something very similar to the button on Seams face. Who could "everyone" refer to? Darkners?

Also, in the room where you find the man giving the egg to you, notice that there is *only kris* in the room... Not with Susie or Ralsei, just *kris* .. Does that mean that only Kris could enter the room? And also, that tree could also be found with the Caterpillar that looks like dango... Hmmm..
Edit: Also, don't you find it strange that Asgore has 7 flowers with the colors of the 7 souls from Undertale?? Including the yellow one which also signifies Flowey...
The coloration on the flowers is interesting. One color is missing, replaced by gold instead. And that color is orange (bravery). No clue why or if it is significant, but it stuck out to me as an odd break in established patterns.
edit: There's a flower that looks orange to me, which would make the replaced one red, which would make more sense, or at least be more obviously significant. But when it's checked I'm pretty sure it claims to be red. If someone could confirm or disprove that, I'd appreciate it.
edit2: I checked it out and the orange-looking flower actually gets reported as orange, making the missing flower the red one. I apologize for the earlier erroneous information. I must have been really tired the first time I saw that.
The egg is interesting. When you are back in the surface, only have the egg from your adventure. I think is important. And the "man" is a reference from Undertale i think "The man who speak witch hands(gaster)" "The man who comes from another world (maybe Gaster from Deltarune).
Maybe he create us in the begining (there is the Gaster theme) to control Kris(chara) but at the end in that night Kris can control his soul and throw our soul into the cage, and he/she can continue his/her plan.
If you start a new game and go through everything again (after previously putting an egg in the fridge) it'll say there's already one egg in the fridge

Theory: Gaster used to be a scientist/teacher at the school, (in the empty room) who found the portal to the dark world coincidentally in the school. He then set up a lab, and went into the dark world. He fought his way back to the real world, but he wasn’t the hero of the prophecy, so it instead sent him to the world of Undertale. He wasn’t the hero, so he couldn’t return back. He set up a lab, meeting people he knew from the world of Deltarune in the underground. He enlisted Alphys’ and Sans’ help, and got to work extracting and infusing determination into monsters. He eventually made a mistake, resulting in an accident bringing him to the dark world again. He found Jevil, and made friends with him, regaling stories of the underground, and teaching him about choices, and the futility of them. All the while, Gaster was trying to find a way back. He never did. One day he found a strange glowing orb. It was calling to him. He reached out to it, and felt power. He then lived out the rest of his life, and on the day of his death realized he still had so much to learn. He tried to keep his eyes open, as he was determined to live. Eventually they closed, and he saw a blinding light. He was back at that exact moment where he touched the orb.
I think the save file that Kris overrides is Gasters, and that being in the accident with the Determination Extractor infused him with determination. He then went on the Flowey path, trying and testing everything he could to leave the dark world. It eventually drove him mad, so he ran and hid, waiting for the hero to release him back to the real world. I don’t know why he gave Kris the egg, but I know it will end up playing a part somehow. Gaster will return in Deltarune Part 2. This world is his experiment.
And I think we will find this next experiment

+Danzignan Well that can be true, but the game implies in several dialogues that Kris seemed unfamiliar with things you did or participated in, which kind of gives a hint that you, the player, are not Kris, you just started controlling him when the game began, and that somewhat leads to you being the soul, and the game also implies that Kris didn’t have friends, and was creepy and weird, but he changed when you started controlling him. I’m not quite sure myself, but it’s really interesting to discuss it, well, I suppose our theories will be debunked in the coming chapters, can’t wait.

It's just so cool that both Undertale and Deltarune have an entire story being told in between the dialogue and side characters. It's something many players won't even catch unless you really look. I think it's neat Toby Fox manages to do that so well.
