    50 years old, Maiden fan for 40. Was on a plane last week, and was listening to Piece of Mind and Powerslave. Women next to me tapped me on my shoulder and said her son, the next seat across, wanted to know what I was listening to as he’d been watching my head nodding, fingers mimicking Smith and foot tapping. I passed over the headphones and said he could listen, as long as he listened to a whole song. I set up ‘The Trooper’, pressed play and in approximately 3mins brought a 10yr-old Finnish boy into the Maiden fold….🤘

    • @Rowlph8888
      @Rowlph8888 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not heavy metal, it's thrash. you have to separate them. Ride the lightning also. "Metallica", or the black album, is comparable to other heavy-metal albums, but the rest of Megadeth and Metallica's catalogue is only comparable to other Thrash bands. Also, it depends on how you quantify "greatest" and this has to have the influential element in it and there was no way that any of Megadeth's or Metallica's work,, is as influential as maidens, for the simple reason that maiden came before and both Mustaine and all the Metallica boys have cited maiden as a major influence, as have anthrax, slayer and Pantera. In some of these cases they been cited as the "most" major influence
      Just for my part, maiden have 2 albums that are better than any of Metallica's or Megadeth's, but it's still not fair to compare as it's different music, with different qualities to compare

    • @rossfryer3902
      @rossfryer3902 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Rowlph8888 , well, if your going most influential, the answer is probably Black Sabbath’s Paranoid in 1970. But, the video said “best” Metal album. I define “best” as quintessential… what album is the best mix of what Metal is. Ride the Lightning has speed / thrash with fight fire with fire, a metal song without a lead guitar solo in For Whom the Bell Tolls, a more bluesy melodic metal song with Fade to Black, and an epic instrumental with Call of Ktulu. If you asked 10 people on the street for the best metal band of all time, 6 out of 10 will say Metallica. You ask 10 Metallica fans what the best Metallica song of all time is, I bet 4 out of 10 day Fade to Black.
      Nothing against Maiden, they’re awesome too.

    • @Rowlph8888
      @Rowlph8888 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rossfryer3902 You are obviously American, to say that. I hate to burst your bubble, but if you asked it in most other countries except the USA, I would say 4/5 out of 10 would say maiden. I would say total worldwide appeal, including USA, Is pretty similar between maiden and Metallica, but you're missing the fact that if anyone would have an opinion that was qualified then they would not include them in the same category anyway. Certainly in areas of the world, e.g. South America maiden are far more popular than Metallica
      My previous point about "The best" was meaning to include all facets including influence, Popularity, all aspects of the genre, etc. This would mean "maiden", because black sabbath just don't compare in popularity to maiden, or metallica, whereas in influence, obviously maiden trump Metallica.

    Back then as a teenager my go to number one album was Rainbow Rising but Number of the beast was just a killer album that took metal to a new level albeit a very different direction to the Black Sabbath , Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple hard rock genre bands just prior to it’s release.
    It was a great time to be a teenager but yeah Number of the beast blew the lid off and ushered in a new generation of metal for sure.
