I watched this video the night before my interview at Cambridge and furiously made notes- this was so helpful! Just got the news today that I've been accepted into the Department of Vet Med to start my PhD in October

'Be an extroverted character of yourself'
Whilst this is undoubtedly a piece of good advice for my introverted self, I just realised I have used this technic throughout my uni (as a shy and awkward overseas student) - be a character of yourself who speak good English, be a hardworking character of yourself, be a sporty character of yourself, etc...
Thank you Andy for the tips . I watched yopur video a day before the PhD interview, it clearly helped me GOOD NEWS, I got in to a doctoral program.
They didnt ask me questions like tell me about yourself. But the first question was why do you want to do a PhD and why in this university. They also asked about my methodoloy , why I choose it? etc

I had my interview today. On zoom. I realised around an hour before that I wasn't going to perform well, felt very nervous and didn't have all my presentation flowing off the tongue and no time to fix it. I had to resort to vodka to try and loosen up! And then they didn't give me any softball questions like 'tell up a little about yourself', but I had very technical questions. But thanks for the prep help! I think I have no chance of getting it.

@@margretazuma5462 I got the rejection a few days later. It came as no surprise. I really need to improve me confidence when it comes to interviews and public speaking. Very frustrating. I feel all good, and then right before my body starts doing weird things, and then I think, oh no, he we go, and then it all goes to hell.
@@neoepicurean3772 I'm so sorry. Just seeing this. For some of us these things do not comes easily. You forget all that you know almost automatically. I haven't been able to get another interview since then and I feel disappointed that I might have ruined my only chance. I hope you get more opportunities.

How'd it go
This was QUITE helpful. But, I would like to add that, amongst the questions to expect are, questions from your proposal and any questions you could ask your interviewers regarding your proposed research.
Thank you for the tips, just got news today that my interview will be held tomorrow, it being held on such a short notice has put a bit of a worried state. Lets hope I get through, will let you know about any updates.

I love the persona tip, it's like acting for a little bit, and not having to take "responsibility" for the extraversion (because internally it's not 'you') so you feel more at liberty to try new things and have fun with it!

They also often ask how you handle stress, but I don't know the purpose and the expectation of the how answer should be.

You know how a lot of 1960s jazz drummers employed a lot of patterns on the bell of the ride cymbal and then alternating the toms etc .. do you have any good patterns for the ride i could learn for these? I am bored of what I've been doing lol I'm applying for a PhD atm in epithelial diseases. Thanks for the advice here!
