Beautiful video, MJ is such a humble and talented woman like all of the SD family, there aren't many places that have that true family magic, it shows from a mile away ♥ 😎 🤘
My favorite set of pickups ever was made by MJ over a conversation on the phone. Seymour told me to describe to her the frequencies that made my guitar muddy and what I wanted to hear. I have a modified "Hot Rod" set to accent the mids and trebles and lessen the bass. It is hand signed by her in a fine blue sharpie and they sound amazing to this very day!! Thank YOU MJ and Seymour for treating me like the Pro's you serve.
I’ve had the honor of speaking with MJ and have a 59’ and a Custom A4 that she wound that sound fantastic and will never come out of the LP there in! I also appreciate the time MJ took when ordering. It was the end of the day with sounds of a busy shop and she listened while giving some advise and I got exactly what I wanted. I have nothing but great respect and appreciation for MJ, Seymour, and everyone at Seymour Duncan. Thank you!
Just got a old 80's Vester relic with a 12BJ in it --- I love that pickup... crazy to think this Women is a Legend who made so many great pickups that people try to locate
so wonderful, all these videos and stories! I'm an SB local, on the graying side, fan of Billy Gibbons, just now (finally!) learning how to play -- some day soon I'll have the courage to come in and talk pickups with you for my guitar
Seymour, God bless you for recognizing one of your key employees. I am half Hispanic, 1st generation American and it was a joy just listening to Maricela speak because she sounds exactly like my mother who recently passed away. As for the PEARLY GATE pups. I have one of the original FENDER "LONE STAR" STRATS that as you know came with a SD Pearly Gate humbucker. Love it !!
I have ordered several custom pickup with MJ and she took my info and made great pickups. I had her mount a duck buster and a screamin dean single coils on a humbucker mount. I have a toggle switch to alternate between the 2. I love that she didn't question me why I wanted something like that she said sure we can build it for you. I also had night hawk pickups frames with my favorite neck pickups the angle makes it easier to carve the lower horn for even better access to the 24th frets. Both were for project builds for customers. Both were very happy with the builds.
LOVE the passion you have for your work and how you treat people. Seems many companies have lost this in their quest for profit over everything. I'm even more glad I've been using your pickups since the 80's and to be able to support your work. I'm pretty sure I have either a Duncan Distortion or a Duncan Custom from the early 80's with an MJ sticker on it. What a treasure!! I remain a loyal customer. Thanks for everything!
MJ made me a brobucker that an 11k wind with 42AWG wire. It *just* holds up, and it has this low-end bark that works PERFECTLY with my Greenback'd Vox AC4TV. MJ = #1!
I Have a mid 80s 59BJ its a very warm sounding pickup, It is also quite weak compared to other humbuckers ive got and have used. I love it, could this one have alnico 2 magnets in it. Thank you Maricela Juarez, you are a legend, Cheers
Thanks MJ for winding my dream pickup a few years back and I never got to thank you. It is phenomenal. I cannot ask for a better-sounding one and you nailed what I wanted so I can get every sound from my favorite guitar players, and more. Wishing you and the legend continued success and all the best!
Wow, so I finally get to put a face to a name. I see “MJ” mentioned all the time on the SD forums and everyone has something great to say about her. Her and everyone that I have seen from the SD company looks like they are not “working” at a job but doing something they love. Keep it up guys and girls!
I have an MJ wound SH -9 Silverbird bridge pickup( among other SDs). Love it! Just wondering - or hoping - those Red Devil pickups will be available in the near future
I’m doing a build, using a sweet 82 Kramer Vanguard Series maple neck, and an 84 Kramer Baretta Satin White body, putting an original Floyd Rose with Fat Brass sustain block upgrade. I’m still trying to decide what pickup to put on it. I am trying to get sound/tone similar to Eddie, George Lynch, and others in that vein, with that beautiful overdriven sound. I used to have a Kramer American Pacer Deluxe, 1987, that had some sweet Seymour Duncan’s in it. I can’t for the life of me remember the model in the bridge position? Can anyone recommend any models i should check out? I also love Vitto Bratta’s sound (White Lion), but no idea what pickups he uses. Anyway that’s the sound I used to have using my 87 Kramer, a combo of those guys, plus my own preferences, just using a 50 watt, JCM 800, model with reverb, and a 20th anniversary white Marshall slant 4x12, with Celestions, but knew all too well that the Seymour Duncan humbucker made that sound! I have the opportunity to get an 80s Seymour SH1 59 Bridge humbucker, hand wound by MJ! I just want to be sure I get the right pickup for what I want.
I recently was in an antique shop and happened upon a Vintage Seymour Duncan humbucker . It's a 59 SH-1 That's marked with a decal n the back that says 59BJ . The shop owner wanted $70 for it .......but didn't know if it worked or not so he gave it to me and said take it home and try it ! If it works and you want it bring me $70 if it doesn't work or you don't like it just bring it back. I took it home and checked it out...........it may be the best sounding pick up ever .....maybe ! I've since been told it was wound by Maricela Juarez . Is this true ?
What is the latest word on the Custom shop Van halen pickup MJ mentioned on Tone Talk a few months back? Here she is talking about it? th-cam.com/video/MSlTa_5FuWM/w-d-xo.htmlm12s
She seems like a nice lady. I just don't buy into the myth that a particular person can wind pickups on a machine better than another. Fender started that as marketing, but it really is BS.
Billy Gilly = overrated player... sorry to burst anyone's bubble, and I was one of 200 people to see ZZ Top in a 3000 seat venue - The Felt Forum, NYC, 1975 or 6. I loved Tres Hombres, but Billy is average IMO.
"... salt and pepper, guacamole and salsa" Perfect!
We love you MJ! Thanks for all the love you put in your creations, and all the great stories you share.
Nice to know that the pickups I buy are from a company that takes care of its workers.
Looking forward to those "red devils"
MJ is a great lady to work with, she rebuilt a 63 strat pickup for me...it's perfect! God bless you guys.
you reckon she winds as good as Seymour?
Beautiful video, MJ is such a humble and talented woman like all of the SD family, there aren't many places that have that true family magic, it shows from a mile away ♥ 😎 🤘

Love your story MJ ,I saw you on "Tone Talk" telling it too. Billy Gibbons would be a great episode ! Thanks for all you two do ! :-)
Todd Flowers billy has a reputation ( I don't know if it's deserved) of being an ass. Great guitarist though
I don't know but, I'm pretty sure he would behave on this show.:-)
