I have spent many years in education, and let me say: this was not (just) a lesson in drumming, this was a lesson in teaching! This was so clear and so easy to understand. Many teachers just try to explain the end result and students cannot make that leap. This was perfect: starting off with something small, that a student can understand, and then incrementally layering it up piece by piece. Not only: but also some teachers try to say too much. This was the perfect balance. Great drumming, and even greater teaching. Thank you!
Whoa ! Wow glad I came across this video ! Sepultura is on of my oldest favourite band since 1995 ! And this tutorial is so sweet and totally nailed it ! Love to you from India !
Thank you so much man this video is great and made playing the intro so much clearer! It sounds so complicated but when you break it down like this you see how simple it really is, and it’s so much fun to play
Really nice!! Loved the way you explained the details (in fact, I had seen other tutorials and none of them were attentive to the detail #2)!! Thanks and congratz! Saludos desde Brasil! 🇧🇷
Gracias for the clear instructions! I've been banging my head with this part for ages, hopefully these guides would do the trick! Cheers from Finland! 🔥
This is so crystal clear dude... I was joking around with a friend about this intro and know, thanks to you, I feel like I'll do it! You're great, you gain a follower, many thanks!!
3years ago I''ve seen your spanish video toturial about this territory by sepultura. Since the n i begin to learn how to play it right. Thank you very much maestro for sharing this. Now i've seen it again. Only now im able to say comments on your video because it's english version. Good job sir. ☝✋👌👍👏
Incredible! I've been playing drums as a hobby for 15 years, all self-taught and by ear. I never bothered to really 'learn' anything conventionally because it was just for me, as a hobby and an outlet. Recently, I started taking it a bit more seriously, enrolled in weekly lessons with a teacher, got some books and videos on the basics, etc. Everything I taught myself is basically a horrible mess, with wrong techniques, wrong positions, terrible grip, the whole thing. Anyway, Territory was one of the first songs I wanted to learn to play when I started out 15 years ago and although I've got about 90% of the rest of the song nailed down, that intro always got away from me. Watched this video four times in the last few days and it's such an eye opener. I've got the basic groove down pat now, almost immediately, but still mess up as soon as I get to the 3 details. Though I notice I'm already getting better at it after just a handful of tries. For comparison, what I've been doing for the past 15 years was basically hit the small and big rack toms in a semi-random pattern, followed by a hit on snare + china. I never figured out how to work that other cymbal in there. My eternal gratitude and I'll continue following along with this video until I get it exactly right.
Thank you so much for such a great comment! Learning proper technic will be fun after learning on your own, but don't get to attached to it, you might create a hybrid one that works for you! It makes my day that the video is helping you with the intro. When I realized the pattern I couldn't wait to share how basic it was. As for those 3 detail, I'd recommend working on the 2nd one first. Start really slow, and play it for 3 to 5 min non stop with a click track, just loop it. Once that feels natural, seep it up little by little. Remember, speed means NOTHING if it's not controlled. Good luck, have fun and let me know how it goes. 🤜🤛
Freaking great tutorial. If you can break something down to its lowest common denominator and then explain it in a simple way it always turns out best and that's what you did...great job.
