- This 16th-century carol/lullaby was traditionally performed during the Coventry Mystery Plays. Known as 'The Pageant of the Shearmen and Tailors' it tells the story of King Herod's massacre of the innocents. It's one of saddest songs ever written and, given the level of suffering inflicted on 'the innocents' in modern society the story is as relevant today as it was 2000 years ago.
