I look at UPS drivers with such reverence. I think it's one of the best jobs in the trucking industry. I have an interview with them in two days

So I had an interview on Monday at the Phoenix terminal and the first question was have you hauled doubles when I said no I haven't the guy was ready to end the interview! I basically sold him to give me a chance and that he wouldn't be disappointed been driving for 5 years with 1 year being heavy haul. He told me to study that if I've done heavy haul he thinks I can do this. So been watching videos and going to run around and see if I can find someone to run me through it one time to get the feel. Any advice would be greatly appreciated I really want this job been trying to get in now for 2 years.

@@michaelraia326 there are some videos right here on TH-cam showing you how to build a set of doubles and tear them down. Watch them a few times so you don't go into any orientation or any more interviews a virgin on the subject. That's what I did. They do hire you if you don't have doubles experience I don't know why he came off that way. This video will help you as well. The instructor was impressed I knew what the spray suppressors were. He said he's never had a student know what those are. I told him I did my research because I want to be here this is not a game to me this is where I want to retire and I looked him dead in the eyes. It's all about attitude man

Excellent and efficient video. Straight to the point! I wish I had discovered this before my test, but apparently I didn't need it because I passed with flying colors!

Retired feeder driver/ linehaul, YRC/ UPS CHEMA, this guy is probably a trainer/ management. The only thing I would mention, keeping in mind these are empty trailers. When trailers are loaded , the heavy trailer always goes in the front. Trust me, if you put the light one up front, you will known especially in the snow( I ran Boston/Buffalo. Just to be clear it is not an issue if the trailers are a few hundred pounds apart, usually it’s more in the thousands.at YRC yard men put the set together for you , as a feeder driver for UPS , you do your own. GO TEAMSTERS.

Good luck! Compared to larger trailers doubles have a much better turn radius because of the second pivot point, however they have the "crack the whip" effect which can be a little unnerving. Wishing you success in your new skill!

He didn’t check the snubber on the last trailer. It’s good to do so just in case you have to switch the trailers around.

this trainer is extremely thorough and awesome but only complaint is sometimes not being able to hear him because he is too far from the mic and still talking as if he is closer. thank you though for superb clarity.

You should make a video teaching how to make the set with the lead trailer and dolly!!! It's an amazing skill to have and to do

  • @brtecson

Well done, very thorough. Some of the equipment/procedure is specific to UPS (for those of you hauling for other carriers) but informative nonetheless

You know if you close the service again when waiting for that ball to set, it'll set that ball faster and you won't lose as much air. Some trailers take a long time for that ball to set. 😉

Didn't close the pintle hitch on the truck
Didn't do coupling awareness before contacting either trailer
Didn't check the pintle hitch on the trailer during the trailer inspection or the Snubber and Didn't check the air valve on the back of the trailer during pre trip

Please tell me you don't do a thorough pre trip like that on every double trailer for every run! Man, you're like doing the same pre-trip you did for your CDL test at your job!? Redundant waste of time.
