When painting, I've used a technique with moving the can that translates well from my days in architecture school with markers, called scumbling. Overlapping, circular motion of the can as you move along the long axis of the body, not straight lines, in light coats. It tends to keep the paint from building in one area, and will not translate "streaks," from a linear movement. Hope that makes sense.
I really like the look of the Astute 2022, and the TD2 chassis. And that red you've used, wow, it really pops and looks fantastic!! A decent brushed setup would be good in that buggy, but for that sort of money you might as well go brushless....
Awesome again! I like the vent stickers on the front of the pods as oppose to the back, you finished it nice, I like this body a lot better than the TD4
I want to paint mine in a deep metallic silver and go minimal on rhe decals. Also a way to make that bulbous canopy look a bit nicer is to have the body color actually come up onto the back of the canopy a bit.
I really like the looks of this buggy. The fenders are a nice touch, would be concerned about tearing them off. The side pods that cover the battery tray ends kind of remind me of F1 side pods. The canopy being a target for scratches, maybe a narrow canopy frame made from some black trim tape? Smoke tinted canopy with a minimal abrasion sheild up top? You surprised me saying you think this needs to go brushless. Then I remembered this is a modernized version. When you were running around the backyard course it was noticable how smooth it sounded. Great paint job, good technique. Your secret is safe with me, will not tell Rebecca. Driving to work today picked up an Arrma Limitless. Tomorrow morning's breakfast unboxing is going to be epic.
Wow it really turned out beautiful 😍 even without stickers it looks awesome, hmm 🤔 maybe one should get one. And you are right regarding the mica red, what a beautiful color ❤️ did you end up backing with white or silver before black?
Curious on your td2 - at full droop on a arms, do your steering knuckles hit the arms limiting full steering lock. When the shock is compressed about 1/3 of the way there is full steering again. My solution so far beside dremel of the steering knuckle and a arm is to use steering knuckles from a trf 5xx.
I agree with another comment made about the front tyres. They are too wide and flat, similar to the neo fighter. Use the black racing fighter wheels and narrow front ribbed tyres or the combination spike/ rib design. They grip so much better on grass and even dirt track. The difference is night and day, and they look similar to stock being black same style wheel.
Agreed on the Bright Mica Red - one of my favourite Tamiya PS colours, looks awesome. Running on the grass with those ribbed front tyres is also a disservice to the steering, do front 4wd square spikes(Super Avante stock fronts) fit? It would help with faster cornering.
Best of luck with putting a hobbywing brushless in it! I tried and give up😞 esc was no problem the motor however just won't go in the wires are far to inflexible🤷♂️
Just about to build this car, I'm just a novice so your channel is great for me. Tried to join your Facebook page a few day's ago but had no response, could you please look into it for me. Thanks Carl
You did an excellent job on the body and decals. I agree with you on the side pods. They appear to be just added on with out much thought to how they should flow with the rest of the very cool body. It seem to skim over the bumps in the yard and as you said it was very quiet. I do have one question. Why do they have the side windows to see the front steering and suspension?
That turned out awesome! I like the smoke on the clear parts. It looks fast! I pre ordered a precut and painted version. Maybe I should just get the standard kit and do the mica red like you did.
Sold it on so never did in the end. I’ve still got a NIB one in the collection. I did hear it was OK, but as a new release it would be destroyed at the track against modern racers like the B6.4 or Schumacher.
Looked good that , runs nicely. Looked like it had a fair bit of power on oversteer from the footage, better front tyres and a bit of weight up front would help cure that. It’s not a massive track either so even with a hot motor if you can t make use of the power and speed it won’t increase your lap time to much unless you do go to a bigger track. Any who looks great really need to get mine built ! ;)
Assume you have driven your TD4 by now. I got one for my son and its a wonderful car to drive. Handling and suspension are great. Driving it makes up for the marmite body.
Yes the chassis on the TD4 and TD2 are nice to drive and the quality of plastics feels more primium. TD4 has a few more issues with front driveshaft and large turning circle but nothing that can't be fixed. Metal diff nuts are a must and a slipper if you track it.
Looking at the sidepods, I note there are stickers that you have decided to put on at the front of them to make them look like a radiator opening. My suggestion would be to actually put those ones on as then they would actually look like functional sidepods, rather than being random bits stuck on the side.
Nice build video! Great job👍 Glad you drove it, this one needs to be driven as much as possible! Was this the first drive round the garden track this year?
After watching this seasons F1 i notice the cars have tge same front wheel fenders, just like the TD4 and TD2!!!! That means the F1 cars have iffy styling to : )
I really like this model 👍👏

ur videos are so good I love ur rc builds!

Reminds me of the frog. Like it looks like a modern frog. I think someone should paint one up as a frog

Awesome car, I think painting the top of the canopy would improve the look, can't wait to see the brushless version.
"I have 2 now" 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😁

It is alot more square and blocky on the sides. But it does look like an F1 car before the decals go on.
Grateful video do you paint the in side red or the out side iv only ever built the blitzer beetle and lunch box so this is a bit of a step up for me
Inside :) I have made some painting guide videos for polycarbonate bodies

Awesome lol and that's why I have two now! Love it 👍👍

Hi, Make sure you answer the entry questions. If you don't you will be rejected from joining. :)
Looks great! Wondering how it would do on a dirt track 🤔
I think it would be good.

The side windows are just a design thing so you can see the front shocks. You can paint this in like the body if you wanted to remove them.
Nice background music when riding :P Same as Tommy Searle had on his channel ^^
Hey Gavin, did you intentionally put the side pod vents on the back, box art has them on the front!!!
Great channel mate!!
Yep I did lol.
Does the Astute 2022 body fit the Super Avante? I like the Astute 2022 body much better. Looks like a F1 body.
That turned out awesome! I like the smoke on the clear parts. It looks fast! I pre ordered a precut and painted version. Maybe I should just get the standard kit and do the mica red like you did.
I painted it the box art colour so I would guess thats what you will get in the painted version.
Looks like an F1 kart. I think it looks great, but I think it would look better without the side damper windows.
Much better looking than the 4wd version. Your track marshal didnt get much action which really is a shame. Lol Excellent work as always.
I know this is older…but did you ever run it at the track you currently race at?
Sold it on so never did in the end. I’ve still got a NIB one in the collection. I did hear it was OK, but as a new release it would be destroyed at the track against modern racers like the B6.4 or Schumacher.
芝生でラジコン最高だよね!😄

Totally just realised I meant to say it was suffering from power on understeer not oversteer, my bad

Loving the astute build..but one little criticism Gav..😂..side pod vents are opposite ends
Or as I like to call them, side exit vents hehehehe I didn't like them on the front, it felt a bit cluttered.
@@RCKickschannel I noticed that too and was wondering if you put the vents on the back deliberately. Looks Awesome!
I must say that it was quite quick for just having the silver can motor, what gearing does it have, do you remember? 😊
It's stock but I can't remember

My suggestion would be to actually put those ones on as then they would actually look like functional sidepods, rather than being random bits stuck on the side.
I put the intake stickers on the backs of the pods as I found the front looked too cluttered with them box art in real life. That's why I moved them.
Hi Gavin is there no decal for the cockpit (clocks and stuff)
Nope not on the Astute 2022. Funny as I would have expected it to be like the TD4.
Nice build video! Great job👍
Glad you drove it, this one needs to be driven as much as possible!
Was this the first drive round the garden track this year?
Yep first drive. The grass is still too wet but the weather has improved so I should be able to get out more now we head towards summer.
@@RCKickschannel Cool, cant wait to see more out on the track!
After watching this seasons F1 i notice the cars have tge same front wheel fenders, just like the TD4 and TD2!!!! That means the F1 cars have iffy styling to : )
The wing would have been cool with smoked paint
what do you use to time your laps ?
LapMonitor or Laptracker
Road cones missing from the bypass 😂
No comment lol.
12:16 Wuhahahahaaaa... :-D
Thanks for watching to the end :) EHHEH You are the only one who commented about that. :)
You should immediately stop "letting always snap" the steering wheel.... that Limits your driving precision second to none
