Will be 71 come Oct. Gold Shaw activates fond childhood memories of sitting on the Gurnsey milk cow while Mother milked her by hand, baby pigs that grew into hogs, rabbits, chickens, fresh eggs, homemade butter, the horse that raised me and another horse that nearly killed us both. Look forward to every Gold Shaw episode.

Can I suggest your body position is part of the problem. Full face or body facing could be altered a bit by turning to the side. Stepping as if going away from and standing with less intention, to allow them to come to you.

With horses, you approach at the shoulder and use your fingers to give a minute or so of gentle scratching and massage on their neck. Then you can work in either direction with the brush. Also, you can get grooming gloves that let you brush with your hands. The gloves have little nubs on them that the animals (dogs, cats, horses) seem to enjoy.

As someone with long hair, not a cow though lol, start brushing at the ends and make your way to the roots GENTLY. If you start at the roots, the excess hair can create tangling and it can be a great tug that makes it not fun for the cattle. If you're too forceful that could also likely spook them, the best method it to treat the brush as if it's a tool for a massage, the animals will likely appreciate the experience to feel better than a chase that likely spooks them.

  • @dawilliamstn

Might be painful using an undercoat rake on them (talk to Vanessa about that - maybe she'll come and groom your cows in addition to Toby Dog and Abby Dog 😂. God knows she's groomed ducks, pigs, rats, cows would make a nifty addition to her channel)

Congratulations on brushing Baby B...I know it must feel like a super success! I would be curious to see if Abby Dog would become friends with her again, as she's in a smaller space right now. Tip: if your health insurance covers other vaccines, it is likely to cover a rabies vaccine, especially as it's work-related, since you may run into rabid raccoons, etc. in the course of your work. It's a 3-shot, 5-week series for humans and immunity can last quite a while. I got mine originally in 2008 so I could help on a bat project where we trapped bats for a genetic study and I get my titers checked every two years--it always makes me smile when I get a letter in the mail from the doctor and it says that I am immune! I just now had to get a booster last year.

It’s interesting having seen the journey for his original cattle in terms of them, being virtually feral when he got them to the point where he can put it around them and they have a working relationship with him. Also with Audrey being w Hopefully the new cows will realise this is the way the HEARD runs and how the farm eights start being more cooperative, though it will be fun and games with initially they get out in the fields.

Since most of them already know and are used to the brushes from the happy cow mobile you might be able to use one of them on a shop broom to help the more skiddish ones get used to being brushed, then they'll associate you with the good scratch. Only downside is they might then think it's okay to brush against you yourself even when you don't have the comb.

Ya if you can put them in a calving stall just before the mom's give birth, you'll be able to keep a better eye on the baby and mom, and then do a ton of hands on in the stall before you let them out with the heard again. If you do that with each calf, they'll prob all be a ton better to work with and even might be able to milk a few of them regularly. Also finding a higher value treat.

Hope that not keeping up with the rope training with Macho doesn't come back to bite him.

I would start with the least sensitive areas, until the cows are more comfortable with you and the brush. Avoid the face and eyes. Maybe give the sides a few good pats, then brush... and repeat.

This might sound odd but you might have more success if you try to tickle their chin and jaw rather than go over their head. It’s a natural reaction to dodge away from something going onto the top of your head. Dogs and cats don’t like it so I would try that. I been amongst cows and they do love a chin and chest scratch rather than anywhere else. Yes they were dairy cows and a that’s a whole different cow but I had to mention it. Thank you. May you all please take care and stay safe. Louisa.👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩 Edit: corrections.

You should try getting a regular brush to start the brushing the cows. This metal comb pulls their hair so they don’t like it.

I’d suggest you halter train all of your calves with in the first few months of life, like the farm where Macho Man came from. You also need to work on your confidence around the cattle, don’t reach out, get up close to them don’t show your afraid of them, you to show them your in control. When you walk the cattle have a firm grip on the halter, that way you will have control of their head thus controlling the animal.

The only day time to see a raccoon that okay is when you have a mom with babies. She'll feed whenever she can. We saw a mom move 5 babies in broad daylight. The babies were adorable!

Not true. While they are nocturnal, they do come out during the daytime. I have a family that lives here, and they come around everyday here. Every year. The grown offspring head out occasionally across the yard.We see at least one or to Goin off Into the woods. Probably going to one of their other dens, since raccoons have multiple ones.

Definitely read comments on body posture You should watch videos on clicker training. It may help you with all your animal training. Training means every day. Short sessions, consistently. You will be happier with your progress than you seem now.
