I like Reed and always watch his videos. But look at the first chart in the video, the vast majority of models are showing something far less than a hurricane, with most suggesting not even tropical storm strength. There will certainly be a lot of rain and flooding will be a major issue, but the chances of Beryl being a hurricane/TS when it comes ashore are slim.
He's calling a cat 1 landfall a mega disaster. Is obvious fear mongering for views. THATS why people giving him a hard time. If a cat 1 is a mega disaster.. then the storm Jamaica just went through was a world ending event. But they're still there... Us too.
Instinct is everything considering the inability for most weather "experts and models" to agree on or forecast anything right. Sad but true. The shade throwing among the weather community is misguided and just looks bad on their character. Frustrating, there are still so many errors in predictions and judgement. Just be professional and people will make up their own minds. In the meantime, just reached out to fam in Victoria and told them to come up to north central Texas if it looks like things will get bad there.

Yep it came in at Rockport and tore it up, up to Austin where the winds blew incessantly for a few days, the kind of wind that drives you crazy, then headed to Houston where the flooding was so so bad. But it's one of the few times that Austin got any rain from a hurricane. They usually go up the coast and we don't get any rain. 2:24

Reed is awesome mostly because he has the education, vocabulary, eloquence, articulation, intelligence and experience to talk ultra-advanced weather with the novice via a discernable conveyance. Reed is the reason why we get a record number of sources and warnings concerning approaching severe weather. He blazed the trail to where we dont have to rely on networks and studios for bits scraps, and pieces with too much fluff otherwise. No-one interprets and conveys the models and maps as well as reed (Conner does great job at that too) and most meteorologists dont share the complexities with us as Reed does, and had. Reed may act like a nut sometimes, but he's as competent and intriguing as weather forecasters and chasers come, as we know. Reed's team is great too. Great teachers, conscientious and talented; Brian, Natalie, Local Man, Edgar..... Great team; very cool, useful and fun. The only two mega team members missing are Jimmy Cantori and the late, great Dave Schwartz (imho).
So far the outlier has been the ICON model. It’s also been more accurate than other models. As Weatherman Mark said, “I have never seen anything like this before”. He’s agreeing the ICON model will prove to be right. A major hurricane right into Houston then curving East thru the US.
Trying to understand “mega disaster” talking about strong Cat 1 and/or 962mb. Maybe I/we becoming desensitized because all we here about is Cat 5, some people saying a new Cat6 comingtjis season. But living on the coast my whole life, Cat 1-2 hurricanes just don't square up with “mega disaster”

NOAA has a good online interactive map of coastal water temperatures. If you search that it should take you to it. The average all in the gulf is 84.7 - 91.2 for the area you're asking about. Up to 92.5 in Louisiana.
Texas coast resident, you’re probably more accurate than our local news. I survived a cat 1 and would not go through anything higher, it was terrifying and it was at night.
Dang Reed. I thought you were gonna leave us hangin' for a minute. I'm in Southwest/Central Louisiana on the Sabine River, Texas border. I'll never forget nor be able to properly describe the sound as it passes over us. It sounded like tight fastbrotations followed by slow growling rotations and everything in between all night long. I hid behind a post on our porch and experienced it. Laura was just straight winds, totally different. Much more destruction here but Laura was way scarier because you could literally hear the hundreds of vortices passing overhead. Thank God they didn't touchdown.

Megadisaster to a cat 1 hurricane is what you get when a tornado chaser reports on a hurricane.

Category 1 hurricanes don't have central pressures of 962mb. That's normal Category 3 pressures.

You may very well see the Houston metro area evacuating north on 45 as you head south if it heads further north
If it turns further north and the forecasts put landfall east of Corpus, I would seriously consider evacuating if I lived in Houston.

Yeah the storm is gonna pass over the water in between the Yucatán Peninsula which will bring it up to about a Category 1 before making landfall again

Dang Reed. I thought you were gonna leave us hangin' for a minute. I'm in Southwest/Central Louisiana on the Sabine River, Texas border. I'll never forget nor be able to properly describe the sound as it passes over us. It sounded like tight fastbrotations followed by slow growling rotations and everything in between all night long. I hid behind a post on our porch and experienced it. Laura was just straight winds, totally different. Much more destruction here but Laura was way scarier because you could literally hear the hundreds of vortices passing overhead. Thank God they didn't touchdown.

Warm water is an understatement. Here in Port A, or Corpus for those not familiar, the water temp is 87-90 degrees.
