It can't be a "Once in a thousand year storm" if it keeps happening year after year.
Yes. It is stupid that the media keeps sensationalizing weather to get clicks and ratings. They were not even around 75 years ago (what do they know about 1,000 years ago).
What they should really report on is the financial crisis that will hit this area resulting from all the property damage and totalled vehicles and the Insurance companies denying or reducing claims on people that are desperate and in need of basics.

The whole area is over built . When I was living in the Northeast I had 15 trees cut and was told not to be surprised if i ended up with water in my basement . I did end up with a little water when we had storms . Just recently home owners here in FL complained they never had flooding living by the canals until developers cleared out the land and built houses .
Lots of South florida is built on a swamp that's why I don't reccomend people invest or move there, climate change is hitting that area hard

I am born and raised in Miami and I never encountered anything of this magnitude ever in my life. Unfortunately this is a combination of global warming and the increasing lack of green space. Ever time you turn around there is a new condo being built. There is not enough green space to absorb rain water.

Cities and builders have to understand what good drainage is. Too many developers build crap and not worry about having proper drainage.

Since damage from this storm is flood related, Would regular homeowners insurance even cover it? I wonder how many people have flood insurance from the federal program which covers that? I have heard that some Floridians were choosing to go without insurance because of the cost. And what about auto insurance?

If you live in an area that is prone to flooding and hurricanes and you continue to rebuild after each disaster then it become your problem to solve, So don't go looking for any help from the federal government or your state because you choose this action and you alone are responsible for the outcome what ever it may be.

I have a friend who sold his place in Florida earlier this year, after the first time that Ft Lauderdale got hit with 2 feet of rain, and his car got ruined, and his townhouse was close to also getting flooded. One sale had fallen through because of exorbitant insurance costs.

While there, I saw about a foot of rain an hour come down once in Naples, and again in Pensacola. I also saw 4 hurricanes in 4 weeks come my way in Tampa. So glad I left FL. This happens all the time down there.

I often wonder if eventually, The only people able to actually live or own property in Florida will be those who can self-insure against weather related disaster losses with so many insurance companies deciding to leave the state.
