I think it would be great to see a version of half life 2 released with this aesthetic, like an alternate timeline. Raising The Bar Redux is doing a great job and I can't wait for them to finish their game.

Ngl i would kill for a hl2 mod where we use the darker plot that was originally planned, just the full story but in this style. Names and some dialogue would be different, yet the path would be mostly unchanged.
Half-life 2 Beta Aesthetics 3.0 on Gamebanana is a modpack that changes the textures of the game but leaves the rest unchanged, Raising The Bar Redux is a complete overhaul

I think Valve made a mistake when they decided to completely change everything in the final release, all because of a leak. There are so many elements of the beta that would make the final product so much better.

The leak didn't affect the 2001 atmosphere at all. They decided it is out of place they already scrapped the style even before the leak

The moment from the beginning of the game where a government man(Gman) wakes us up and we get off the train is very atmospheric, in the beta it would have been 1000 times more atmospheric!
Yeah but playing in this dark hopeless world and atmosphere would become so draining and boring after a while. The retail hl2 has a good mix of dark dystopian but also fun, more happy moments

I think Americans perceive Half Life 2 darker because they themselves did not live in such neighborhoods, I noticed that Russians are not as bothered by this game as Americans! This is not surprising, since Russians have lived in such streets since childhood, I live in Ukraine and I can say that City 17 is very similar to my village
@@Zrozenskyi Nah bro, I live in Lithuania which has the same architecture to HL2 and I can say with confidence that retail HL2 is way darker than HL1. HL1 some dark moments, but it also had a lot comedic moments, like scientists being eaten by zombies and turning into gibs, which is kinda funny, while HL2 is much more atmospheric and serious, there's almost no comedy if any at all.
@@thiccjerry5232 Half Life 2 is definitely dark. but in Half Life 1 you constantly have to climb through dark ventilation, and when a headcrab jumps in the ventilation, then it’s actually horror. The darkest game in the Half Life series is Half Life episode 1 because it's very dark there

Don't know the footage in this video but you should research Raising The Bar: Redux and Dark Interval. They're two fantastic half-life 2 beta restoration projects (Dark Interval no longer seems to get updates very often if at all, but RTBR gets maybe two every year)
