This version of Breen looks more terrifying and surpasses the original Breen. I wish they had went this route with the character, the Consul. Not knowing his real name and the only thing you know about him is that he was the administrator at Black Mesa.
As I saw on a comment on another video, the Consul is just a propaganda tool for the Combine. Reading out all the "The true citizen..." stuff onto the Consul Cast. He just commands the city and tells people what to do. Breen's attire and personality actually provide a leader that the citizens will listen to. Breen is at least trying to make City 17 liveable, and his attire shows his differences from the Combine. Breen's character is a lot more round than the Consul. The Consul is very flat compared to Breen.
I find Breen a lot better. He has personality, he looks like a normal dude, someone you could be taking a coffee with but who could also send you to Nova Prospekt if he wanted to
breen fits a lot better in the current revision of the story, he's very much supposed to be this meek old man that you finally get to see in person and think, "wait, *this* is supposed to be who represents the entire human race?" he's much more selfish and has the ability to appeal to our sense of humanity, rather than the consul who really is just sort of this black and white propaganda figure to keep people in line (though perhaps he would've been expanded on had the story not been redone)
When I first play through hl2 breen didnt seem like the sort of man who could do this bit of the game and be who he was but this verison of breen seems like he could. Infact this has given me an idea for a hl2 mod

Additionally, i know im not the only one thinking valve could/shouldve used these aesthetics in this area, it really feels a lot more hostile. =P
I think I like the release version more because honestly, a lot of those aesthetics were rejected for good reason. The Combine don't look as advanced as they should be, the Elites look goofy, and Consul honestly looks like a stereotypical 1984-style dictator.

I'm gonna ignore your wall of text and tell you that Breen is objectively a more complex character than the consul and subjectively a way more interesting one.
I need to say that this is really good. It emulates well enough the Dark Interval of Half-life 2, but there is something that is not alright. In the original plot, the Consul was about to be transformed into an immortal Post-human/Synth/ Breengrub (with Life-supporting System). Why isn't this included? It would be much better. Still, good job!

you probably didn't make the mod, but interesting thing about the music leaked here: *fake.* it was lifted from a royalty free album. most of it was plagiarized by other fps games too (powerslave/exhumed being one of them) , i think theres only one legitimate song not counting the music stings sprinkled about as sound effects
