    Since the SUV craze hit the minivan has become an under appreciated platform which is a shame because they are so useful and practical. My mom has a Grand Caravan and its been a great vehicle. Very reliable, comfortable, and good gas mileage on the highway. My parents have had several surgeries in the past 2 years and the van has been awesome for them to get in and out of easily. She says this is her last vehicle but if she ever needs a new one I would put the Pacifica on the top of the list.

    You guys nailed this review! I've had one since 2017 and we love it!! Fully 2/3rds of all of our driving has been in electric-only mode and we only need to buy gas about once every three months or so!
    The transmission has no gears so there's no need for paddle shifters. I've never mistaken the shift knob for the volume since it's easier to change the volume using the buttons on the back of the steering wheel anyway.
    Oh, and I drove the regular gas Pacifica for a few months, it handles WAY worse than the eHybrid one. The eHybrid one is the version to get for sure! No brainer.

    • @BM-si2ei
      @BM-si2ei 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gasoline usually goes bad within 30 days or so of storing it (or at least, starts to go bad). Do you do anything to stabilize the fuel?

    • @mikeybthepilot
      @mikeybthepilot 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      B M yes, you may be right if the gas is being stored in a jerrycan or something but the gas tanks of most cars are sealed and ventilated properly to avoid having gas go bad prematurely. The PacHy senses the gas and burns it off if it starts to go bad or is more than three months old for that reason and I don’t put stabilizer or anything.

    Rented the regular version (i.e. non-hyrbrid) of the Pacifica for a family wedding in Colorado. It crushed my Subaru Impreza for gas mileage which was hard to fathom. I felt I needed a lesson on all of the tech just to turn on the lights but things started clicking soon after. You're right about space in these puppies especially when you compare them to three-row SUVs like our Highlander. That third row in the Pacifica was fine for a 5-hour road trip.

    Yoooooo!!!! My parents bought a brand new 1994 Nissan Quest, the Nissan version of the Mercury Villager, when I was born and after being the only owners of it and after 25 years later, we put 315,000 miles on it before we decided to get rid of it. Only reason my Dad gave up on it was because parts were getting hard to find for it and slight rust here and there on the body. I have to agree that growing up with a minivan was amazing! Just piled all my friends in there in high school and had a blast hanging out.
    My sister and I are all grown up now but my Dad, without a doubt in his mind, was like, ok..... we have to replace the Quest with another van just because it was too damn practical. He chose a used 2011 Toyota Sienna SE. You guys HAVE to drive the Sienna, especially the SE. I mean I'm blown away with the handling of that and I thought it was way fast for what it is. I'm comparing it to our old Quest and I think Yuri and Jakub can agree just how underpowered those vans were with only around 150 HP and 170 lb-ft. The Sienna has almost DOUBLE that power and it's heavier. Just amazing how much better minivans are getting these days. I even want one for myself and I'm super single.
    I'm surprised you guys haven't reviewed a Sienna yet! I'd love to hear your take on it despite how the tech isn't up to par with the Odyssey and Pacifica.

    Have this exactly van - replaced a 2017 gas pacifica limited with this one. We love it for exactly the reasons you guys state (electric drivetrain, transmission, electric range, tons of storage, comfy)
    The halogen lights DRIVE ME CRAZY. Even our 2017 was all LED and looked good.

      Riyad Kalla I currently have a 2017 gas version and am planning on getting the 2020 hybrid. Do you have any issues w your hybrid? I’m a little hesitant after seeing all the issues/complaints online.

    • @rkalla
      @rkalla 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      wasabi9111 no man we LOVE IT. We never used the stow and go storage though - the way the hybrid drives is much nicer than the gas - that ZF9 speed is garbage and has odd shifts - the eTorque is just smooth and nice to drive. If you mostly do city driving and charge at night a tank of gas will last 3 months. The only time we fill up is before a road trip. Also the oil change interval is longer around 10k miles for us because the gas motor only runs like 1/8th of the time we drive the car. Would 100% buy again.

    I actually got one of these to use as a full-time rideshare vehicle. I love how comfortable it is, and it still handles my ""assertive" driving style on Boston city streets. I DO wish it was a tiny bit higher off of the ground, but at the same time wish it had a little sidestep available for shorter folks who tend to have a little trouble getting into the 2nd row (I know this is nitpicky stuff here). I've put nearly 30k miles on mine since September 2018, and the infotainment system has a few glitches sometimes which tend to simply require a restart of the vehicle (full power cycle off, then back on). I appreciate that the car actually turns on the seat cooler/seat heater for me if it is above or below a certain temperature outside, no heat burns from the leather! I could go on, and on, and on, but I really do thoroughly enjoy the car. I have it in black, and a lot of people think I drive an Uber Black vehicle (which sadly it is not, but I'm okay with that!) because it is just that nice inside.

    I've had the 2018 version of this van for about a year now. In my opinion it's the best family vehicle available. My wife typically has short trips around the city all day, so she will drive around purely on electric power, go home, plug it in for an hour or two, then go out again when needed. We only have to fill up with gas about once every 1-1.5 months.

    Mercury Villager shoutout! My mom loved ours so much and used to tap the dash when she wanted more power out of it and say "Come on ol' bess!" She loved the car enough to name it Bessie, and the a/c in the car was so powerful you could not leave it on for long periods of time because we would all freeze in the car. It is a bizarre experience remembering just the Villager, because after that we never had a family car quite as good.

    My dad's dream vehicle setup is to have a Honda Clarity & Hyundai Kona electric. I'm pretty sure if the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid existed 15-20 years ago, my parents would have had one. Right now, I think the Honda Odyssey seems the most fun to drive, the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has the most unique, forward thinking engine, & the Toyota Sienna is the only minivan which offers AWD. For those who live up North, the AWD option has an appeal; although, a strong set of winter tires makes a huge impact in that situation. Fun review, SP!

    My first car was a Chrysler Grand Voyager too! It was an ex-rental car when my parents bought it, so it only had the base model tape deck.
    It also had some crappy aftermarket alarm that the rental car company had installed that eventually melted the wiring harness and caused the battery to literally explode. After that, none of the lights worked properly, and when you turned on the turn signal, every single light bulb in the car blinked with it: The dash illumination, the reading lights, the headlights, etc. Instant party mode!

    The Pacifica definitely seems less engaging than the Honda Odyssey. I’m skeptical about the long term reliability of the Pacifica hybrid versus the Honda or Toyota, but the prospect of mostly electric driving in a vehicle that is also great for road-tripping is pretty enticing.
    Do you think there’s any way Toyota doesn’t make a hybrid Sienna during the next redesign on the TNGA platform? An AWD hybrid minivan would be pretty competitive.

When you close the door it sounds so heavy and really really good. 50km is low but it's nice for getting the kids to daycare or doctors appointments. It's more than enough for local. The regenerative braking is decent. We opted for the beige interior and good lord does it look good. It's also very very comfortable Chrysler calls it back a few times which is annoying to have it recalled but oh well. I have it a 7.5/10. Nice car, needs more range though.

I test drove one of these (non hybrid version) and it was nice as hell but I traded in Grand Cherokee and didn't want to have to worry about all the bells and whistles on a Chrysler product, I just want something reliable that can haul my family and a TON of stuff.

      Well good luck. My brother in law's Sienna is a 2016 and it was plauged with issues. Sliding doors that never ever ever stopped rattling, a rear bumper that fell off while on the highway was just so random, air conditioning that would either not work or turn the car into a meat locker. Yikes. And engine vibration for a V6 was worse than our Toyota Previa 4 cylinder. Sienna is a car, but as for being reliable, I don't know so much about that.

    I think Chrysler has unlocked a recipe for a purely amazing minivan. The electric range is a huge money saver, and (even tho no stow n' go) practicality is a huge plus with the doors. My family switched from a lemon of a minivan (2011 Grand caravan main Street) to a 2015 Traverse. Holy crap do I miss the rear seat legroom. I am now the smallest person in my family, even though I'm the oldest, and I loved being able to fold over the center seat for a foot rest. Tried to get my parents to get the Pacifica LX which would've been the same price 😒

    Been waiting for you guys to cover this. Have had it for a year in Toronto and it's amazing. We got it few days before Ford cancelled the 14,000 tax credit that came from the old gas tax. In the balls of winter though, the car forces itself into hard hybrid mode and abandons ev mode as much as possible. So you feel like you have two very different cars. Anyways, if you have the car for a few months, you can have a lot of fun hypermiling with it . Also, did you guys notice that the milage will always show 2L/100km even when you are rolling and charging? I think the final estimate milage (it has to be an estimate since it's plug in hybrid) is therefore overstated by a good amount. Also with the level 2 charger, at times I get 150 km per Saturday and Sunday as I keep taking the kids out and back home. Very fun car. Also that panoramic roof has made my kids better humans lol.
