    Love seeing macro photography. It’s so interesting to see the tiny world brought close and made bigger.
    The “Careless Whisper” shared between the beetles was hilarious!
    Well done.

      Thanks Jim, I do enjoy a bit of macro every now and again, nice to do something a bit different - glad it gave you a bit of a laugh 😂😂

    The best video I have watched on this lens and I must admit this was so fascinating to watch. Many times, there are so many naysayers about tech pieces and even though I wouldn't have adhered to whatever I have watched over this lens in the last five months; but your review is one that is my spectacle for eventually deciding to add this to my purchasing list. Your simple, brilliant and clever approach to this is remarkable.

    Great images Dave. I've used 60mm and 100/105mm macro lenses, but I've never tried something in-between, like this. Seemed to do a pretty decent job and if you also get portraits out of it, then a great value lens. 😊

      I definitely prefer more around the 100mm mark but this is great for something like an engagement shoot where it's mainly portraits but then you can bag a couple of detail shots of the ring without needing a second lens, there is some real value in that. Thanks for watching Robert :)

    This is beautiful! Thank you for making such a brilliant video! I have watched a lot of videos about the RF 85mm f2 and they were all disappointed in the lens but I am glad to hear about it in a positive way! It might not be the best "Portraits" lens but it sure makes a good macro lens I am very impressed!

      Hey, thanks. At the price point I think this is a very capable lens, able to produce fabulous images

    Nice video on macro. Got some great images. Loved the wee “tap that” thumbs up part. 🤣 it’s an interesting art. Especially when they really zoom in on a subject.

    Some stunningly good looking , sharp images in here Dave, i love the 85mm focal length on a full frame for portraits and having the added bonus of the macro capability just adds extra value to the lens. Enjoyed the video , and thats some light modifier but looks like it does the job well.

      Thanks Lee, yeah 85 on a FF for portraits is my go to. I did a few macro shots back when I got the lens but nothing serious and haven't used it for that ever since so thought I'd give it a go. Was pleasantly surprised. It's not quite enough for the smallest of bugs but ladybird size it did great.

    For shooting these macro shots do you put the lens setting at 0.35 - 0.5m?
    And what typical F/stop do you usually play around with to get the whole flower focused.

    • @LetsClickPhotography
      @LetsClickPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you need to focus in at the closer focussing distance so with the lens button to 0.35-0.55 focus. Typically with this lens around f8-f11 for the flower shots.

    Awesome video Dave, nice review! The 1:2 MR can be enough for some larger subjects and the IQ looks pretty decent! P.s: give those poor little ladybugs some space when they are doing their thing😂

      Thanks Peter, if I'm honest with you I actually forgot about the macro on this 85 until I watched your run through of macro lenses, jigged the memory that it could do that (well sort of do it!). I definitely felt like I was interrupting a moment of intimate romance with that pair haha

    as a cheap alternative to the 100mm, i think this is pretty good! i'm looking for strictly macro photography but the 100mm is a lot more expensive, this seems to be a good compromise at close to half the price

    Hello. Can this lens shoot ring details?

    • @LetsClickPhotography
      @LetsClickPhotography  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have done with it yes. It's not a match for the 100mm in terms of macro but it does it well enough to get the job done.

    • @LetsClickPhotography
      @LetsClickPhotography  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have used it for that yes. Not as good as the 100mm macro but gets the job done.

    Well, that was something a bit different! If you are gonna show Lady Bug (Bird) porn, you really ought to put up a warning 😳
    Glad to see that Murder Hornet you were telling me about the other day, scary stuff 😂 I've never done much macro photography, it's never been of much interest to me, but I certainly do like to look at other people's amazing macro images...and this fit the bill nicely. Some really great shots in there mate but oddly enough my favorite was the yellow flower at the very end. The bokeh and the light was absolutely gorgeous! Looks like a great lens for either portrait work or macro! Great stuff as always mate. Chat soon pal.

      haha that reminds me, I meant to mention, I ended up going down a murder hornet 'rabbit hole' on You Tube after you text the other night.....those things are brutal. Watched a documentary about them trying to locate the nests in Washington state, definitely don't want those things taking hold and building a colony anywhere near your town.....puts our little hornets over here into perspective. Thanks mate, that last image of the buttercup flower was actually from the evening before I recorded this. It was in a buildings premises I'd been working at and as I came out I just saw this break of light across the lawn lighting up the flower and as I had the 85 grabbed it out of the bag and snatched a quick shot before the sun went behind the clouds that were sweeping the sky - basically that one shot at the end inspired the whole video before it!

    I heard alot of mixed reviews on this lens, I'm looking to purchase for close up videography shots what's your opinion when shooting for video? It looks like you got some great shots with video but other people say its not good for it, thanks Mike

    • @LetsClickPhotography
      @LetsClickPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Mike, I find it great for b-roll shots. Smooth focus and locks on well. As long as you know what you're doing it will produce good quality. However it is a noisy lens, so for anything that requires audio it fails. From the reviews I saw of it I guessed that the poor reviews relate to the noise issue and the fact that if you move from close up to further distance, the lens can hunt for a long while.

    Cracking shots there Dave - it did really well for video as well as great stills of flowers (especially the buttercup at the end!), insects and ladybird porn! Considering it's not a dedicated macro lens it's bloody good at it.

    • @LetsClickPhotography
      @LetsClickPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Andrew. It's a lovely lens but it's really slow at focussing so there's a knack to using it for video. Took me a while to work out how to get the best out of it but now I have it is really useful, there's been a few detail b-roll shots I've been filming with it lately. That last image of the buttercup flower was actually from the evening before I recorded this. It was in a buildings premises I'd been working at and as I came out I just saw this break of light across the lawn lighting up the flower. As I had the 85 I grabbed it out of the bag and snatched a quick shot before the sun went behind the clouds that were sweeping the sky - I then just needed to create a whole video so I could share it somewhere haha

    Макро - отдельный мир, снимки потрясающие даже на этом полумакро стекле. Предполагаю кроп, с 45 у R5 это проще.

    I got this lens yesterday after playing around with it in the store and was super impressed with its images. Last night while playing with it I was about 30 cm from my husband while he was asleep in a dimly lit room and it couldn’t focus for shit. It kept going back-and-forth. Any ideas what I’m doing wrong? Please help it was a close up of his face , I was 80 shutter speed, 1600 iso

    • @LetsClickPhotography
      @LetsClickPhotography  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The trick with this lens is to utilise the focus distance switch on the side, especially necessary in dim light at close focus - switch it to 0.35-0.5m focus. And be aware that the minimum focus distance is 35cm so it will never be able to achieve focus at closer distances than that.

    Are these all shot handheld? Would you use a tripod for macro?

    • @LetsClickPhotography
      @LetsClickPhotography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All the shots in this were handheld, making the most of decent light, the ibis and lens stabilisation on the 85 and adding the flash in helped with it all. Take any one of those away and I would have been using the tripod as I did have it with me

    • @7743dustin

      @@LetsClickPhotography seems hard to set up a tripod for shots like that seems like the legs would get in the way.
