    First, my apologies for the long comment. In addition to valuable and useful information, your videos are inviting and flow so well that even a non-photographer might enjoy your presentation. Almost all of my macro photography involves focus stacking, usually with a powered rail indoors, using anything ranging from a 1:1 macro lens to a 20x microscope objective on a 200mm relay lens attached to a full frame camera. Exporting from Lightroom to Zerene Stacker is fast and allows editing within Zerene of the generated image using one or more photos to correct any ghosting that might occur. That output goes back to Lightroom and Photoshop for normal post-processing. My enjoyment comes both from exhibiting my images to friends and family, and from the process of creating the “seen from the unseen”. Thanks for your video.

      A photography forum I frequent gets a few post from photogs that are in your extreme macro class but I think that 10x is the most I have seen there. Mostly insects. Pretty wild (& scary) the amount of detail the human eye can’t see.

    Glad to see you back with long-form vids, Daniel. Format works so well as you guide viewers through the process, with clear detailed explanations. Worthy of tutorial coverage in one of the on-line e-mags. (Last time you had that coverage your subs shot up like crazy, as I recall.😁)
    Don't see many YT vids explaining focusing rails, so kudos for that. I use them myself, but will refine my technique after seeing your method.
    One tip I can offer: when taking multiple but similar compositions using focus stacking, take "separator" images to distinguish each group. Shots of front and back of a hand, or even a pencil works in my experience. Hope that makes sense.
    Effective product promos w/o being "over-the-top". Nice.
    Recent firmware update for my Sony cam enables in-cam focus bracketing, but have yet to try it out.
    Next time, bring along a wind breaker to keep props steady -- and a tarp to rest on. (Lots of chocolate, too.)😀
    Cheers!

      Thanks for the kind words 🙏 again Paul !I'm glad you find the format helpful!
      As for your tip about the separator images, the way I do it is look at the meter data of the images and go by time stamp.

    Very good value, especially if this thing will let you enjoy spinning for hours for $200, while the WeMacro rail (with power bank cable for outside) for $319 will let you automatically take hundreds of shots in minutes. Bravo NISI!

    Thanks for sharing your work and thoughts behind the decisions you make. I just found your channel and you just convinced me that my next lens will be a macro. I know that a lot of macro lenses suffer from focus breathing. Have you ever had a problem stacking your images because of this?

    • @DanielAucoinFineArt
      @DanielAucoinFineArt  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for your comment! I'm glad to hear that I’ve inspired you to try macro photography. It’s a lot of fun!
      I know focus breathing can be an issue with some lenses. If there's one suggestion I can give, it’s to always put your camera on a tripod when shooting still subjects. This will greatly improve your chances of capturing images without unwanted effects. If your camera and lens don’t support in-camera focus bracketing, I’d definitely suggest using a focusing rail, especially for high-magnification images.
      I hope this helps a bit, but you’ll need to try it for yourself and see what works best with your setup. Enjoy your macro journey!😉✌️

    Wonderful, informative, and we'll presented video.
    I use my R7 internal focus bracketing to stack may to images, and LightRoom and photoshop to process the images.
    Before my R7 I used my 7Dii, and would have to manually turn the lens ring to achieve focus bracketing. As do not own a focus rail the manual turning of the lens ring was not always the best approach resulting in soft images.

    Hello Daniel, Thanks so much to share your knowledge and the great job you do.
    I've a question regarding the NISI Close-up 77 mm. I've purchased due to you says that get 1X with the Lens 70/200. In my case with a Canon 90D and a 70/200 f2.8 , I get 0,79X max. I've tested as really must be done, taking a picture at a tape measure (meter), then, I got 28 mm picture and if my sensor is 22,3 mm, then 22,3/28= 0,79X. This has been done in studio with tripod.
    I don't know if I'm doing something wrong because you says that get 1X.
    Thanks so much in advance for your comments.

      Thanks for the kind words and your questions!
      The camera bag I’m using can be found here: peak-design.pxf.io/zxj5W6
      For the lighting, I recommend going with the white light, as it’s the most neutral. You can always use diffusers to adjust the warmth or coolness of the light based on your needs.
      Hope this helps! Thanks again for your support!✌️😉

    What is the difference of moving the camera slightly via the macro rail instead of just changing focus point or manually changing focus with the camera at the same distance to subject?

  • @rhanifsat

    When you move the camera closer to the subject, its size will be bigger in the frame, so the subject size won't be consistent. How do you get the final image done in lightroom/photoshop?
    P/s: i'm all new to this type of photography so there're a lot that i don't understand yet

    • @DanielAucoinFineArt

      Yes, indeed, the subject is getting a little bigger when you move the camera forward. In order to stack the images together in post processing I use this software to realign the images before automatically stitching them. ✌️😉

  • @spanky9740
    @spanky9740 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Since most of the time the camera is inverted on the tripod and very close to the ground pressing the shutter button isn't easy. What's more everytime you press it, you can move the camera. So i use a cable release button for the shutter. Just thought i'd throw that out there.

    I have genuine question. Is it even possible to earn money with macro photography? Or it's extremely rare and most of time hobbies for everyone? Because i never heard someone is doing that for living. Usually it's wedding/portrait photography what brings in money

    • @DanielAucoinFineArt
      @DanielAucoinFineArt  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Thanks for your question, my friend. I'll do my best to answer it.
      The main reason photographers often find success with portraits or wedding photography is that they create significant value for their clients. The images carry deep meaning for couples, making them more inclined to purchase them.
      Macro photography, on the other hand, is different. Let me ask you: Would you buy one of my macro photos as a fine art print? The answer is probably no. However, if I shoot a macro video that provides value, helps you learn, and inspires you to go out and shoot, would you take the time to watch it? The answer is likely yes. This suggests that the experience may hold more value than the photos themselves.
      Your question is tough to answer because it depends on various factors like your needs, passion, and the effort you're willing to invest. We live in a system where money is the currency. So if you want to thrive in macro photography, you need to create value that people are willing to pay for.
      Ultimately, the real question is whether you can deliver enough value to others. If the answer is yes, then it is indeed possible to make a living from macro photography, depending on your individual needs. I hope this makes sense!😉✌️
