I use this brand for my M42 lenses on a Fuji FX camera. Very happy with the results. First I wanted to get the Zhongyi II, but went with this brand, and saved some money. I seriously see very little to no difference. Also used Viltrox adapter-speed booster, and also was very happy with it. I do not use 'dumb' adapters at all when using vintage lenses.
After watching your videos I bought a Kipon m645 focal reducer and a Mamiya m645 80mm/f2.8 lens. I'm a Canon user and have been thinking about having a second camera of different system. Sony fits the bill and I'm blaming you for it :) and love your model :) Great work !
Beautiful photos! And I love the texture from the video clips, nice work! I love the look of medium format lenses, there is no equal. (I've watched this several times, and will re-watch again I'm sure).

Thanks for your video, but I would like to know if you can adapt to large format cameras because I have several apocromatic optics too long and I would like to reduce its focal length and increase its luminosity. I do not care about the bayonet since I would buy one to adapt it to the camera
eeey västerås ser jag. guess its true whatey say, the world is a small place! kikat på dina videor när jag behöver kunskap och info. otroligt hjälpsamma videor, keep up the good work
Hi Mattias, I have a doubt that I would like to ask. I don't know if I missed that point anywhere in your video. " By using this medium format lense with the Kipon adapter on to the sony e mount camera,. Do we get more field of view than a 45 mm modern lense ( made for sony e mount Full frame sensor ) can give? Please advise when you are free.
Is there a change between the image of the Kipon 645 and the 6x7? The format 645 has a harvest of 0.62 and the 6x7 of 0.48, however both focal reducers offer a 0.7x, which makes me think that there is no noticeable change in the image if they shoot with a lens in the same millimeter and the same configuration. I'm wrong? Doubt kills me.
I am looking at this adapter to use my phase one and mamiya 645 AF glass with my Sony A7RIV. I just wanted to confirm that you can electronically control the aperture? Does it electronically control aperture during video recording too? Or did you only test with manual 645 lenses? Thanks!
Beautiful shots and editing. That looks so heavy though! Here I thought my little Fuji was heavy with a normal APS-C speedbooster and a tiny 50mm f1.4.
Hello there, Great video thank you... Quick question? do you know if there is a Bronica ETR to Canon Lens adapter with FOV Correction? Seems I can't find any on the market. Thanks.
Good video, is there an adapter to use medium format lens on Nikon? im using the D850 and would love to get a 40mm equivalent lens but with the extra stop be around f0.9 or f1 like the 50mm F1.7 in your video is? Also any links for both affordable lenses and Nikon adapters would be so helpful. Regards Chris
This Adapter take the image of medium format Lens end put it on FF sensor??? Exactly like if to make a shot on film Camera of medium format ? Or it will be with crop ? The image?sorry about my English
Would love to see the results where you stack another FF to APS-C speedbooster on top of this focal reducer to get reduction from MF to APS-C. I imagine IQ would suffer more, but would be interesting to see.
hey Mttias, great video! have ever stacked focal reducers? i'm a bout to shoot a tv series and i'm looking for a way to use MF lenses on the ARRI ALEXA's super 35 sensor.
Hi Mattias! Quick question again re kipon focal reducer. Is there really a big difference between using the kipon focal reducer and a dumb adapter aside from reducing the focal length and speed? I guess my question is if the kipon focal reducer does actually render the photo like a medium format as compared to a dumb adapter? Thank you
@@gearreallydoesntmatter When you speak of focal reducer, you are talking about changing the image circle. MF lens has bigger image circles compared to FF at focal plane. If you use a dumb adapter you will be using the center part of the image circles(sharpest area) and discarding the remaining area . With focal reducer you are squeezing the larger image circle to fit on smaller FF sensor. In other words, a 50mm lens from MF still has the same FOV as 50mm on FF with dumb adapter, but it can have wider FOV with focal reducer. In this case the FOV will increase by a factor of 0.7 . Thus a 50mm MF with Kipon focal reducer will have a focal length of 0.7X50=35mm in FF. I just ordered one for Hasselblad lens for adapting to Nikon Z after trying dumb adapter on P67 and HB on Nikon Z to add shift/Tilt via Fotodiox ROKR . Not bad thus far. Thanks for your test review.
Hello. Is there any focus confirmation working with this adapter on Sony? I prefer to have a sound confirmation working with manual lenses. This is highly critical for me. Thank you.
Is this adapter compatible with old Mamiya 80mm sekor 80mm 1.9, 45mm sekor 2.8, and 55mm sekor 2.8 lenses? These are old manual focus only lenses. I think I read somewhere this adapter isn't compatible with all Mamiya manual focus lenses. Thanks.
Are there any medium format f1.2 lenses that you know of? I'm interested in maximizing light transmission for low light footage and thought medium format with a speed booster could be an option, or do you know any lenses for sony e mount that have really low t stops? Thanks!
Hi Mattias! Very nice video. I have a couple of questions re Kipon reducer. 1. How does the mamiya 80mm f1.9 compare with mamiya 55mm f2.8 & 110mm f2.8 in terms of medium format rendering? I know theyre different focal lengths but do the 55mm & 110mm f2.8 also produce the same medium format background as the 80mm f1.9? 2. I have sony a9 and M240. Would it be better to just get the kipon focal reducer for leica so I can use it for both leica and sony plus adapter? Thank you!
Don't know about the 110mm but the 55 is nice. My favorite is the 150mm f3.5. There are lots of images from them in my review of the Canon version. Yes, Leica M definitely makes more sense.
I have a the following medium format lenses and am curious if you know of any adapters that would allow me to use them on my Sony A9 or Sony A73? ... Rollei Xenotar HFT 2 8/80, Pentax 645 75mm, Pentax SMC P 67 Lens ‑ 105mm ‑ F/2.4. Thanks!
So...color me ignorant...however---do any adapters work with a cameras "auto" functions...such as focus and exposure settings, etc--or, does it only allow a lens to be used, in "dumb" mode and once attached to the camera body, does everything then have to be manuallly controlled/adjusted? Without auto functionality, it's just an underperforming lens adapter. Thanks for your time. Oh, and have enjoyed your reviews of ALL kinds for several years now.
1. All adapters allow auto exposure. I have never heard of any camera/adapter combination that doesnt. 2. Some auto focus lenses like for example EF allows auto focus if you use an auto focus adapter. 3. "Without auto functionality, it's just an underperforming lens adapter" This would be false even if it didn't have auto functions since this is a speedbooster. Also I have never heard of underperforming adapters, what exactly is it that they underperform in?
When using an MF Kipon Bayess 0.7 Focal Reducer on my Sony A6500, the lens doesn't report to the camera what focal length it is at so the camera cannot select the focal length to use with In Body Image Stabilization (IBIS). I can set the IBIS focal length manually but, which focal length do I use? Do I select the native focal length for setting IBIS manually or do I select the focal length after the x0.7 focal reduction is applied. I contacted Kipon Bayess and did not get a decent response to this question. Until. I learn otherwise, I will be setting the IBIS at the native focal length of the lens. What do you think>
Thank you - that seems logical! I love my 135mm Meyer Optik Gorlitz Orestor f/2.8 with the Kipon Bayless 0.7 focal reducer, M-42 to e -mount, on my Sony A6500 camera for portraits... I am also anxious to try my 58mm f/2.0 Helios lens on the APSC camera with the focal reducer and see if it might improve the spiral bokeh effect.
Great video and love the dog! Will the kipon speedbooster reduce to MF focal length or FF focal length on my Sony a6500 APS-C. In other words, using the kipon speedbooster adapter, will it keep my 80mm Mamiya Sekor C at 80mm or reduce to 56mm?
Hi.. I always enjoy your videos...thanks! You can get this adaptor with M-mount insted of E. Then use Techart pro M to E autofocus adaptor! Would be nice to have medium format autofocus legacy lens! (A7rii+Techart pro autofocus M to E+Kipon Baveyes focal reducer Hassel to M+Lens)
Mattias, loving your production style and content. I'm curious to know when you choose to shoot your Sony cameras over your Fuji ones (for stills)? When do you reach for one or the other?
How do you adapt the P6 lenses to the Mamiya mount at the adapter? That would fulfill the dream of mine to get a digital cam that could go with my P6 without breaking the bank…
I also own Mamiya m645 with a few lens and Sony A7RII. Your video just inspire me to adopt those lens to my A7R. However after checking the price and found it costs around $700, I don’t think I would get it soon. Anyway I really enjoy your video and your photos. Thank you
Hi Mattias, i am still not clear on the benefit of using medium format lenses on digital full frame, can you explain more? would it produce better quality compared to native full frame lenses? thx
Hey great informative video. By the way if you own the speedbooster can you measure the diameter of the optical glass in it? ıt would be great for a project of mine.
I am slightly confused by the focal length. For instance an 80mm MF lens with this adapter on the Sony, what would be the equivalent focal length in 35mm terms? 56mm?
as usual your videos are so freaking good. I wanted to tell you I do like the result of your experimentation, if i understand correctly you are adapting medium format lenses to a full format camera..... do you know what happens if you do the oposite? a 35 mm format lens on a medium format sensor camera? i just wonder if its worthy to own a medium format censor camera at all cause if you are stock to medium format lenses........ then that is quiet a compromise
@@gearreallydoesntmatter thanks. thats really interesting. I had figured it would be like using a full frame lens on a crop sensor but I guess this is moreso using the full glass. Now I'm wondering if there is any way to use this with Pentax 67 glass. I have a bunch of that and it would be dope to repurpose it with my A7C.
In terms of stills, do you experience any vignetting ?! Obviously you can stop down on the lens to avoid vignette but, shooting with a medium format lens, I'd like to be wide open for the bokeh, but I'm scared about the vignette..
Thanks so much! And if it’s a Kipon 645 for APSC or Super 35 size sensor would you then times THAT number by 1.7? In other words X0.7 X1.7? ALSO same calculation for f-stop in terms of depth if filed equivalent. For FF and APSC. CHEERS
Would you get similar results using a metabones EF - E mount speed booster with a medium format to EF mount adapter on the medium format lens giving you speed booster canon and medium format lenses?
@@gearreallydoesntmatter What would happen? Too much vignetting? The Canon adapter would convert the medium format lens to the correct flange distance for a canon full frame but would project larger image circle on full frame sensor, then use Canon to E mount speed booster to focus the image circle. What am I missing?
You would end up using a Medium Format lens to achieve a Full Frame look. Might as well stock full frame glass on it and use a full frame focal reducer which is much cheaper..

After x0.7. If you put on a 100mm lens tell the camera it's a 70mm.
RAJESH TULI to about FF so you might as well buy a FF reducer. You could still adapt MF glass to it. If its for APS-C this adapter makes little sense.
Wonder if the Kipon focal reducer is equally as good in the Fuji G mount version
really nice video. I would like to buy this adapter but i cant find it anywhere, how did you manage to buy one?
Adorama has them.
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252832630108
Awesome video! Where did you source the adapter from? Having trouble finding one in europe or the UK.
+Tom Montgomery Adorama and eBay has them.

Amin Shamseddini nice idea btw.
Mattias, loving your production style and content. I'm curious to know when you choose to shoot your Sony cameras over your Fuji ones (for stills)? When do you reach for one or the other?
Thanks, the Sony is for when I have a bag and lots of lenses.
Is the larger sensor size offer unique perspective? Or can the same perspective be achieved on any size with the right focal length
Hello, do you know any m42 medium format lenses?
How do you adapt the P6 lenses to the Mamiya mount at the adapter?
That would fulfill the dream of mine to get a digital cam that could go with my P6 without breaking the bank…
Just a cheap P6 to Mamiya adapter.
Wow. Your photos are stunning!
I also own Mamiya m645 with a few lens and Sony A7RII.
Your video just inspire me to adopt those lens to my A7R.
However after checking the price and found it costs around $700, I don’t think I would get it soon.
Anyway I really enjoy your video and your photos. Thank you
Beautiful work. Wonderful dog too!
Are you running the camera in super35 mode, or is this using the full sensor?
Full sensor of course.
Where did you buy this adapter from? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Also, how much did it cost?
Arran Clarke I belive Adorama has it. Otherwise you can contact Kipon.
Mattias Burling Thanks! I didn't realise how pricey it was. Guess I had better start saving.
Had a pleasure to watch and you have a nice pal to walk with.
Hi Mattias, i am still not clear on the benefit of using medium format lenses on digital full frame, can you explain more? would it produce better quality compared to native full frame lenses? thx
A.R. Photography There are no such native lenses. Its about the actual lenses, not similar focal lengths.
From the UK. Can you get a focal reducer for less than 400$. ??
What are the options. Can I just get a adapter?
Hey great informative video. By the way if you own the speedbooster can you measure the diameter of the optical glass in it? ıt would be great for a project of mine.
What u recomend between kipon and viltrox af focal reducer?
I am slightly confused by the focal length. For instance an 80mm MF lens with this adapter on the Sony, what would be the equivalent focal length in 35mm terms? 56mm?
The Home Office Productions yes.
Shouldn't this Mamiya-Kipon combo equate roughly to a 55mm f1.4 lens on the Sony?
56mm 1.9. F-stop doesn’t change with crop factor.
as usual your videos are so freaking good. I wanted to tell you I do like the result of your experimentation, if i understand correctly you are adapting medium format lenses to a full format camera..... do you know what happens if you do the oposite? a 35 mm format lens on a medium format sensor camera? i just wonder if its worthy to own a medium format censor camera at all cause if you are stock to medium format lenses........ then that is quiet a compromise
which lenses are giving the circular bokeh here?
Is there a lens adapter for the koni omega lenses
Does the crop mean a 50mm lens would be become a longer focal length or a shorter focal length?
Wider field of view.
I shoot wide open in loads of the images in this video.
Does this only effect focal length or does the 0.7 crop factor apply to aperture like with a metabones speed booster?
RMT2170 it should apply to both, the two work based on the same principles
How do you calculate the 35mm equivalent when using the adapter? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP! Including f-stop depth of field equivalent.
x0.7. 100mm is a 70mm equivalent.
Nope. Might as well skip the speedbooster with that setup.
Thank you! This really helped a lot! 🙏💜
Hi, can this adapter/ speed booster be had with med format to Nikon?
Only to Nikon Z.
Im using nikon d850
then no.
Mattias, I’ve been watching your videos and noticed how you color grade your photos. How do you have that kind if appearance to your photos? Awesome!!
What would 80mm F1.9 be equivalent to on full frame? i'd love this adapter and a good portrait / fashion lens
I guess f1.2 or there about.
amazing and focal length would be 80mm as it would usually be on full frame or closer to 50 / 60mm?
It would be 80mm x 0.7
Will you be testing the new 4k magic lantern update for the canon 5d mkiii?
Not right now, but probably in the future.
