Let me tell you. I was off meds for 12 years, trying anything I could have possibly done to naturally fix bipolar. IT DOES NOT WORK. Getting ready to get on meds again and stay on them for LIFE. I am getting dangerously close to ending my life. Bipolar is absolutely a chronic and deadly illness. I’m now accepting that and treating it as such. Bipolar is a difficult diagnosis to accept. It took me over a decade. It’s normal to think you can do something natural, but trust me, you can’t. If you could, I would have found it. I worked SO HARD to cure it naturally and I couldn’t. I even have a degree in Molecular Biology. I know a lot about the biochemistry of the body and I still couldn’t fix it. It is truly something to be medicated for, even though the side effects and journey to the right meds may suck for a while. I hope this comment can help someone else accept their diagnosis. Please don’t take as long as I did.

I strongly disagree I was able to be off medication and fixed myself naturally
I can work so please don’t discourage other people by says “oh it doesn’t work”
Even if you couldn’t cure yourself naturally I’d rather die feeling normal than live my whole life feeling like a zombie

@@LastLetterisZed702 Some people can develop all sorts of symptoms such as disinhibition etc as a result of an injury, but with bipolar that is more episodic. So you might've been diagnosed with bipolar even if you hadn't had that injury, 'just' one of those things. x

You can be misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder as it has similarities with other disorders... I think that's important to remember. I was reevaluated and had my diagnosis updated to BPD. I still take some meds, but I was able to go off the meds you can't take while pregnant. So I was able to get pregnant & had 2 healthy babies, yay! I also learned DBT skills, which I HIGHLY recommend! It helps with a range of mental health problems. I follow Dr. Mary Ackerley out to Tucson-- Harvard and Johns Hopkins graduate, Psychiatrist. She ended up working with patients whose medications were not working and found out about environmental/biotoxin illness affecting the brain -- mold exposure, water damaged buildings, etc. and found that people that had bipolar, depression, anxiety--that most of her patients had been exposed to toxic mold. You can find her blogs online, she also mentions that the ONE supplement she suggests everyone take at the proper dose is high quality fish oil. My friend took the fish oil and gave her insomnia so she gave up, but Dr. Ackerly says it lowers brain inflammation and highly reduces BP symptoms. Anyone try that?

I agree that people should continue doing whatever keeps them well.
However: I think there’s a HUGE difference between 1) going off meds you’re currently on, 2) simply saying “I don’t need meds, I’m fine!!”, and 3) *acknowledging you are unwell and treating your bipolar symptoms with something else instead of medicine.*
It makes sense that 1) and 2) should absolutely get on and stay on meds - because their denial about their unwellness and their refusal (or inability) to be realistic about its effects pretty much guarantees 100% they’re either currently very unwell, or are about to be!
But some people do opt for 3), and have had success with it. It takes a ton of time, work, commitment, tenacity, and immense insight into one’s illness (and honestly, many of those traits prob come down to personality type moreso than pure willpower or good intentions). The “Bipolar IN Order” book/group/system is a fantastic resource for this. (Note that the creator isn’t anti-meds, but he and many others successfully manage bipolar without meds, because this approach it more useful/successful for them)

Thank you for being so honest and for sharing your personal growth and new research. I can relate to memory loss being so sad. I wish that I was open to getting help including pharmacological treatment as a young person. I'm in the beginning of middle age and was just diagnosed. I was so skeptical of medicine especially in mental health. I've just always been independent and preferred using more natural means to heal. I still feel that way, but with bipolar like other physical conditions, medications are life savers. I always considered myself an open minded person, but I really wasn't when it came to mental health. The people closest to me suggested it, but I always got really upset and defensive. It wasn't until I hit the bottom of the bottom in my life which I had already thought that I did, by the way, did I admit that I needed and wanted help. Then, healing could begin and I'm so grateful that I'm here now. Your honesty is very encouraging and you're helping a lot of people.

Please do not take what I am about to say as discouragement. I do not have Bipolar myself but have suffered some severe depression.
A few weekends ago, I was in severe depression and dragged myself to a Catholic Young Adult retreat and told a monk from the Servants of Christ Jesus asked me if I wanted a hand injury to be healed. I told him yes and then he brought another monk to join us in prayer. the second monk asked me if anything else was on my mind and I told him about how depressed I was. The two monks prayed for me and then I went into the adoration chapel. I sat in front of the Blessed Sacrament and caught myself fidgeting with my Rosary, which meant my hand finally worked again! I could barely move that hand for years before that retreat. I also have not been depressed since then. I didn't realize it but people tell me I am a lot more energetic and productive. Miracles are real! I can not stop sharing this story.

I am currently stopping my medications. Sadly, I live in a country with primitive mental health care, doctors just throw meds at you with zero regard for patient well-being, and when I tell them the more I increase lamictal, the more suicidal I become, he tells me to increase further, and fills me with SSRIs and antipsychotics, with zero effect except making me feel both suicidal and like a robot. My brain is fried at this point. Been suffering for nearly two decades of quacks just filling me with crap and taking the money. I envy the western world.

I have tried 16 different medications and the side effects have gotten me fired, laid off, I have been hospitalized because of meds. The only thing that has ever kept my bipolar leveled out has been medical marijuana and plant medicines to decrease inflammation because that is the main trigger of episodes as well as psychedelics that have been proven to help with depression long term and OCD in a medical setting. Rather than pills made in a lab, we are all Guinea pigs because everyone has their own brand of bipolar disorder. Everyone has to be treated differently.

Something that some might like to know is, when you leave this world, your soul might be here and conscious. Buddha said something like that, which not being catholic does not disqualify his remarks, where I had an experience where my instinct, gut feeling, Buddha was right. A degree can't tell you this.
Also, it's like violent suicides are one substance low in the brain, I think it's serotonin. Then passive suicide epiphren or something like that. Epinephrine??? I forgot....
But they find all this out, where people who committed suicide, they'd simply have the back of their skull cut and peeled back, cutting the skull, removing the brain and analyzing the chemical levels. Then they put the skull back on, minus the brain, sew the skin back. Not a very pleasant idea. Worse, a botched suicide, could leave one brain damaged for the rest of their life or being a vegetable, which your trapped in your own body.
There are many competent people even amateurs that actually do care. Wonderful people.

How would you react if all the sudden your coffee table started to talk to you? Would you be open to listening, or would you freak out and run to the doctor to put yourself on meds to suppress it? Most people would freak out because they don't have a proper context for it. Under the materialist paradigm the only context is that you're going insane. But if you understand how consciousness works then there's really nothing wrong about it, you just have an extra-open mind. What ordinary humans consider to be "hallucinations" not really hallucinations (since everything is a hallucination), they are just God's imagination - Infinite Imagination - at work in non-ordinary states of consciousness. See so the meds that suppress the hallucination is itself a hallucination... 😂

Even Jews understand there are promises in the covenant for health and wealth and long life. If we don't believe what God has spoken we won't receive our inheritance.

Should we ignore what Christ taught and did for your experience? No! He taught us to walk in healing power Matt 10:8, James 5:14-15, Mark 16. These weren't suggestions but commands, not gifts either in these three verses above.

It’s just taking drugs. Bipolar isn’t an illness.
