It's a shame they didn't take this more seriously by using the full budget. Andre's was thmost capable but would have been even better by spending the thousands he had left
Agreed. Literally any and every offroad part you can want is available for a KJ. Proper coil lift, lockers, skid plates, heck even solid front axle swaps... But no. They did literally almost nothing.
Worst part is he was the whole thing was to make it moab ready. Instead of a better radiator/electric fans and a disk brake conversion he was busy spray painting wheels and doing usless upgrades like the coat hanger instead of making it actually functional
Andre’s liberty was the best JEEP there. Approach and departure angles were great and it’s still modern and comfortable enough to get home in. It did everything the CJ did + more.
What happened to the episode of bringing them to Toby? I assume Andre still had budget left. Would have loved to see him add a lunchbox locker to the rear.
Seemed rushed tbh, tommy especially definitely did not have a full budget used well. Pretty disappointing for me, I really enjoyed getting them onced over and competition is always fun to watch, but there isn't much competition when you can't spend the time to try.
Focusing on quantity over quality. I think they could have extended the series and done more. But they push lots of videos between all the channels. More modifications would not have increased the resale.
Yeah, I think they crapped the bed this time around. Clearly didn't dump all of Andre's leftover money into his Liberty. Just sort of feels like a Falken advertisement. Let's hope for better next time.
Tfl should do a modernization series for the CJ. Engine, suspension, brakes, ect.. After completion, rerun the gauntlet with a split screen comparison video. Tommy really needed a 10 point harness to help keep his cheeks and limbs from flailing about.
Yeah, brings back memories of my carbureted YJ. Constantly stalling, always hot or cold, top unsnapping on the highway, but I'd give anything to have it back.
KJ FTW. put a proper OME lift kit on it, some properly sized tires (what did you guys use? 245/70R16 on a 16x7 wheel? if so, too tall and wide), cut the fender liners properly and pound over the pinch welds. if you have a little more cash throw in at least a lunch box locker in the rear diff and you'd have yourself a cheap honey badger.
When I was off-roading with a guide out in Moab what he really stressed was smooth easy acceleration up the obstacle. Essentially find the obstacle with your front tire and then smoothly roll on, and sometimes you need to give it a bump. That's how I see them do it on the off-road channels that I watch. Whenever you guys do these you're always very start and stop or else you just full send. Now these vehicles don't necessarily belong on this trail in the first place, but I still feel like you would have more success if you could accelerate more smoothly. And maybe you do it off screen, but I also don't see much in the way of rock stacking or things like that. I also agree with everybody who said that they could have definitely modded them more. Sorry about the negativity, I hope everyone had fun.
I generally agree (the old land rover quote - "As slow as possible as fast as necessary"). In this case for Tommy, I think that Jeep didn't have the luxury of being smooth becase of the lack of power. For the rock step he pinballed off of, I'm fairly sure even in low range he would have struggled to get up the ledge with his power deficit. But overall good advice
I can tell you guys are having a blast with this challenge. I also love that the guys picked Liberty's. You can find them pretty cheap and for most applications, they are plenty capable so they make for a great build. I also love Tommy's enthusiasm for an authentic Jeep. He really shows that life is more than A.C and leather seats.
I love the fact TFL is showing a clean 200k mile liberty on here. I fight and fight with people that Chrysler cars do the job when the owners do. This is a textbook example. I see both of these liberty’s as long as aspen and Durango E V E R Y D A Y in mass here in Detroit. They are literally everywhere. So are the last 3-4 generation town and country / grand caravan, and last 4 generations of ram. With a dose of stratus and Sebring 2.4, and some neons. These are all very old cars , yet I see them out Working .
Having had a CJ5 it brought back good memories and terror from watching Tommy bouncing madly, the rig creaking and banging…. Say what you will fit nostalgia but new 4wd’s have come soooo far. Running Finns and Hells Revenge in an FJ60 and having the carb starve in inclines then upgrading to an 80 series Cruiser and running those trails felt like a huge jump in trail ability as I imagine going from a CJ or YJ and going to a TJ or a JK. 😆
Got a lifted 2003 sport on 31s and it's climbed over every obstacle put in front of it no problem. Fill up with camping gear and toss a couple kayaks on top and we can go just about anywhere. I love it because it reminds people that Libs ARE in fact Jeeps capable of doing Jeep stuff.
These guys are living the dream! Love seeing the quality of the videos continuing to get better and better and all the cool drone shots, keep the great content coming!!!
I vote for the red Liberty. Did everything the others did, had air conditioning, no leaky roof, and was way cheaper. What more could you want in a budget build?
My take home from these is how they are smiling the entire time they’re driving. Contrast that to whenever they’re testing a new mega expensive something where they’re stressed out and worried about scratching it. Cheap = more fun!
Great video as always, love having all the guys together. Been watching since the early days, I consider you guys friends and family at this point. Such a fun time.
Those tires looked street pressure. Sub 20lb would have helped everyone but Nathan whose Jeep would have become a road grader. The CJ would really benefit. Still cool to watch.
I owned an 03 Liberty and wife owns a 2012 Liberty and love the Liberty line. But I went from a 2000 Tj to a 2012 JKU and now a 2015 JK so we are a Jeep family
The chin spoiler in the KK is user removable by just a couple of clips, so you can easily remove it for off road, and you get a non-insignificant increase in the approach angle. You guys should do it!
I owned a ‘68 CJ-5 for many years. It to was a Willys (last year I believe). It would go most anywhere utilizing 4:56 limited slips front and rear. 10k lb PTO Ramsey winch. 3 speed with additional over drive. Dauntless V6 indestructible engine! Hot in the summer and freezing in the winter! Wipers never worked due to the vertical windshield. But…one fun and challenging vehicle compared to todays off road vehicles!
I appreciated this series and want to see it expanded upon. Glossing over the details, not using their budget on upgrades and giving us a breakdown of how the funds were used, seemingly arbitrary scoring system and some of the more goofy driving made are things that made the series less enjoyable for me personally. That being said, great job and I'm looking forward to y'all's future content.
I really wanted this to be great, but the first obstacle showed very little wheeling capability by the drivers. The Jet edition could have tried crawling a bit on the passenger rock to get front clearance. The CJ could've made it if the clutch work was smoother. The liberty had no reason (I could see) to turn passenger (instead this forced the front tire low and high centered sooner). Didn't see anyone trying to steer for side lug grip. And why did no one weld their diff for a cheap jeep challenge?! And didn't see any squat in the tires, not even aired down? Still a fun watch, wish I was there in any jeep.
Love the KK. Great under-rated cheap Jeep! Make sure you do a drain and fill and filter on the trans, no one ever does that service, this vehicle is sensitive to that and coil packs and plugs for the best highway experience on your way to the trails.
Absolutely loved this series. Would love to see more of this. A little bit of time in the garage, a little bit of time on the trail, and all good fun. A++
Well at least they really went off roading which is a plus; and always great to see Moab. The mods were clearly not well thought out, rushed or something. It could have been more honestly labeled how much can you do with a cheap jeep and new tires. Andre in particular could have done significantly more of course. Also it was crazy to have allowed two of them to select essentially the same vehicle, yielding less interesting insights into what kinds of vehicles had particular advantages etc. In the end the series provided little actual information on what can be done for $10,000 but it does show you can have a good deal of fun with an almost stock cheap jeep on good tires and that was interesting in its own way.
This one is good… but I would’ve preferred something like one of the older 4x4 challenge. We didn’t know which vehicle they bought until the series actually aired, while in this case they made about 30 videos on all those jeeps so we knew what vehicles they actually had. Aside from that tho the filming and everything of this series is VERY well done
Yeah they kind of ruined the surprise didn't they? With the other episodes before airing this. It was still fun to watch but I was wanting to wait until the last second to find out what they did to the jeeps
I agree with the outcome, since the CJ has potential. There are a lot of things that can be improved to make it a lot better, while the other two are capable, but road cars and not designed for real off road and not worth investing in a lot of off road gear.
I bought a used Honda XR600 many years ago. I had the most fun on that cheap very used Motorcycle. You found the same concept here with your cheap Jeeps.
Cheap jeep challenge, but roman driving too would be great, and do wrangler generations. CJ5, CJ7, YJ, & TJ. Or CJ7 through JK. Either or. I think the views would be amazing, the Jeep world loves to compare the generations.
Seeing that CJ really made me miss my 76 CJ5. There wasn't much stock parts left in it by the time I got done with it though. Hope the guy I sold it to is enjoying it as much as I did. Honestly the red liberty did the best in my opinion. A lunch box locker and a regear would've made it a monster compared to the others.
I feel like it’s funner and more interesting seeing older vehicles off roading since most of the time people will buy older vehicles to off road cause it won’t hurt as much if they get damaged

Let me get that 07 when your done
You guys should really consider fully building out that Willy’s. Engine swap, new suspension, and all that would be great to watch.
They need more practice behind the wheel first
Looks like the CJ is severely lacking in gearing.
100%
Driver mods go along way, and so does the right gears and tires
You’re on the wrong channel for that…😂
Andre did the best in this series. Bought the cheapest most caplable jeep, and was able to put more modifications.
Except all he did was slap in a $150 spacer kit and a set of tires.
@@JS-pv3df500$*
i would like to see a series where you guys take the modifications seriously
It's a shame they didn't take this more seriously by using the full budget. Andre's was thmost capable but would have been even better by spending the thousands he had left

Seriously! Most build series like these end up going over budget and having to sell parts to make back on the budget. Disappointed TFL 😢
Remember best preparation is air down tires
Andre has the best jeep....best of both worlds!
Put those same mods on the KK and it would have dominated
I'm sure it was unsafe and scary, but I laughed way too hard everytime Tommy flew down a hill uncontrollably!
And when he was jumping around like a rabbit while saying: I LOVE MY JEEP. 🤣😂😅🤣🤣😅
All of us old jeep guys always say we love are jeeps no matter what happens in it
The look on his face when it happened had my dying. 🤣🤣🤣
If he had of used 4 low it would have walkes down slow an safer

Andre’s liberty was the best JEEP there. Approach and departure angles were great and it’s still modern and comfortable enough to get home in. It did everything the CJ did + more.
I'm also amazed how well the KK Liberty does with VERY LITTLE modification!
Tommy’s lack of brakes going downhill made me chuckle. He basically was just holding on and letting gravity have its way with him.😂
Surprised he didn't use HILL DESCENT CONTROL
@@mikefoehr235or the parking brake
Its really beating him up in there too.
What happened to the episode of bringing them to Toby?
I assume Andre still had budget left. Would have loved to see him add a lunchbox locker to the rear.

Yeah, I think they crapped the bed this time around. Clearly didn't dump all of Andre's leftover money into his Liberty. Just sort of feels like a Falken advertisement.

Gears and lunchbox lockers in the CJ would have been unstoppable as well.
That CJ5 really makes you appreciate just how comfortable modern vehicles really are
Yeah it's more Tractor than car at this point, but modern tractors are pretty nice now too.
Tfl should do a modernization series for the CJ. Engine, suspension, brakes, ect.. After completion, rerun the gauntlet with a split screen comparison video. Tommy really needed a 10 point harness to help keep his cheeks and limbs from flailing about.
not a liberty fan by any means but Andre is the clear winner here
My back hurts just watching Tommy lol
Good job guys!
This is a great series! Watching Tommy get beat up & bounced around really gives an appreciation for how much 4x4 vehicles have changed.
Tommy had the most fun for sure! This shows why less is more when it comes to sensations.

Tommy bringing back memories from when he blew the tires in the Defender. No crawlin’ just haulin’
I had a 67 CJ5 with the Buick/Dauntless (gutless) v6. Watching Tommy bounce around in that CJ is bringing back memories!
I was thinking a TJ Rubicon axles, suspension, and 4.0L straight 6 with the 6 speed manual would be awesome for Tommy's Jeep.
I never get tired of seeing these four in the video. You guys are the best and we love these kind of series.
