She stood out, but the fact that both Damon and Affleck were seriously miscasted and their all american mugs broke the immersion, played a big role.

Just watched this today, it is a really good movie, I don't know why it's getting negative press. If you want to watch a good one, this is one.
If we are clear there are many many stories about heroic women who were erased from history. So they and others should explore more about women in history

It's weird Nicole says there's not enough info about women in this period. There are many books about the lives of women (no, not just music and crochet), using historical evidence. It's a whole field of study. I know there's not as much about this particular woman, but she keeps saying in interviews we don't know anything about women in this era.

This film is based on a real woman Marguerite de Thibouville. What's really cringe is comparing every film to banal Marvel trash. If that's your taste you probably won't like this movie.

That's something i believe alot of people fail to realise...
oh man. where to begin with this movie. it was so beautifully paced, accurate to history (other than the cinematic effects of the last duel, although there was daggers and axes used etc) but for the most part, it was incredibly well thought out and cinematically, a masterpiece. from the directing, colour palettes and cinematography to the gritty, teeth clenching acting. the three chapters was necessary, as it showed us as the audience that the woman’s perspective is always left out and adding her own chapter advocated for women’s truth and essentially, feminism that allowed the audience to rethink what they think is true. they were already giants in the game but this movie gave them the mountains to climb to the skies.

I AM EXCITED TO SEE THIS MOVIE.
Ridley Scott is one of my favorite directors. He's an autuer when he controls the project Blade Runner - Gladiator But in this one he had no control. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon writing the project gave them slot of control. Enough to cast themselves in the movie in parts that the really were not suited for in the protrayal of a french nobleman - Affleck and a french Knight - Damon. However, the American actor - that was in a recent Star Wars movie, forgive me for not knowing his name, had the talent and the presence to pull off a knightly performance soared in contrast to Damon. Particularly in the scene where they had a hearing in front of the King and both requested to duel to death. Also, because the story was very simplistic. A knights wife is raped by his nemesis and the have a duel, Affleck and Damon filled time unnecessarily by telling the story in a Groundhog styled way by revealing the story by the 3 main characters different perspectives leading up to the rape and the rape itself. This not only dragged the story out unnecessarily, but as a woman I really didn't appreciate seeing this woman get RAPED TWICE. I thought this was sensationalist and again unnecessary A good writer can find ways to add subtext and context to a story without being sensationalist. Oh how I miss Dalton Trumbo. Anyway, the best part of the movie was the duel itself. But with the telling of 3 different perspectives it took too long to get there. My rating for this movie is a 2 and I pray that Ridley Scott has more control over his next film.
Obviously you’re entitled to your opinion, but i happens to disagree everything you just said, this movie is a masterpiece for me, I’m a woman too, the twice rape scene is necessary because the Essenes of the movie is about perspective, different people see thing from different perspective and it cultivate different narrative.that’s how the conflict originated. From the rapist POV he thought she was coming on to him because she gave her a smile and kisses him on the lip. And she accidentally on purpose left her shoes while she ran upstairs,she put on a mild fight at the beginning and ended becoming pleasurable at the end. So his mind, it doesn’t count as rape, it’s just rough sex. But in her POV, it’s just completely opposite to his narrative, it it crying and kicking and screaming and it’s absolutely no pleasure at the end. Two story needed to be shown because that’s how you reached conflict. And the 3 prospective didn’t drag me out, it makes me more interested and involved with it.
I am also a woman and I think you misunderstood this movie to an insane degree. I definitely agree with your point about the casting though.
So basically they made a good movie but no true explanation to how they did it.

Affleck seems in way better spirits here with this movie than he has since he won the Oscar for Argo.

What was not mentioned; was that there are at least 2 documents of a man confessing to the rape on his deathbed. When Margerite heard about this, she got herself to a nunnery for the rest of her life (after Carouges death).

Thanks to it, and to the film, I saw myself back in a conversation with a priest, who told me, almost, the same things he told the rapist, that the man was not guilty. I spoke about the husband being a hero, maybe, because to the public he was, or I am in need of one.

But this movie is not about glorified the woman in it, or the men or any single character, I’m not sure if this truly based on a real story, but it’s certainly extremely entertaining and tense while I’m watching it, it’s not a typical Hollywood crap because it’s realistic and unpretentious, it doesn’t sugarcoat anything like most crappy Hollywood movie.this movie is intense and thought provoking and suspenseful and entertaining, that’s just my 2 cent
