  • In this tutorial I look at how you can combine Starnet++ and Photoshop in your workflow to create images with nebula that just pop - no more distraction from bloated or overly bright stars.
    By removing the stars, then adding them back later, you can ensure that you control star size and the opacity leaving the nebula as the star of your photos.
    For those looking for the photoshop Arcsin stretches, you can get them from this cloudy nights link - www.cloudynigh....

    Thank you. As a beginner I didn't know that Starnett existed. Just downloaded it. Great tutorial, keep them coming.

      You're so very welcome! Glad you found it helpful. Working on one for arcsin curves in photoshop at the moment, keep an eye out if you don't already use those! Clear skies to you!

    Works for me. It's interesting that you did all of this in Photoshop ... No PixInsight.

      PixInsight is great, but isn't needed for everything! I actually prefer some of the more old school ways. I still use DeepSkyStacker and Photoshop for pretty much everything. This method will also work with free software such as GIMP. Which is great. Clear skies to you!

    Great Vidoeo BUT can you describe how to do it with narrowband images where you have three different "stars only" layers? I guess this star layers need to be somehow combined together before bringing it back into the (also combined) starless picture(?) How to do that? Thanks!

      Hey man, this isn't something I have tried - but I absolutely will try it as I now have a mono camera. It *should* be as simple as taking each channel, running that through S++, stretching each channel, putting the stars back in (in the same way as the video) and then combining the channels into one image... Will let you know how that goes once I have tried it - and I promise I will do a video once I have worked it out! Clear skies to you!

      If you combine the 3 separate narrowband integrations, as you would do in any processing, and then save it as a tif, you can then use the RGB process in Starnet++

  • @AnomalousAstro
    @AnomalousAstro 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nicely done! What do you use to go from .fits to .tiff? I'm trying to learn Pixinsight to avoid that data loss, but there's no 3 minute editing with that beast.
    Thanks for the work you put into the Videos.

      Okay, so my process goes... fits files from camera - I check them all for dud subs using ASI fits viewer. I then stack everything in DeepSkyStacker, which outputs the TIFF file and from there into photoshop. I’ve never got on with PI, I don’t feel in control of it, I much prefer photoshop, and DSS does a good enough job of stacking.
      Planning on doing a whole processing video from the subs right out the camera to finished image, so hopefully that will be up in the next couple of weeks...

    Thank you. Is starnet++ a stand alone program or is is used with in photoshop? Can starnet++ be used in Gimp?

    • @EverydayAstro
      @EverydayAstro  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I use Starnet++ as a standalone programme. It's not within Photoshop. You can get a version that works within Pixinsight, but I haven;t ever used that one. Therefore as long as the file is the right format (TIFF), then your Gimp file will also work with the standalone programme. Clear skies to you!

      @@EverydayAstro thanks again, i have a stacked and Gimp processed image of the Crescent Nebula that is buried with stars. I’m looking forward to using starnet++ to clear the stars away.

    What a great tutorial!! , sometimes when I use Starnet++ it leaves me with A LOT of small purple dots especially if the image has A LOT of stara like the Soul Nebula for example, is there any way to get rid of this issue?

    • @EverydayAstro
      @EverydayAstro  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man, thanks for commenting. I haven't had this issue myself - which scope are you using to take your images? I also find the earlier in processing you do it, the better the results - it's finding that right balance point. So perhaps try doing it one stretch earlier? Let me know how you get on...

    • @Bakrybaso94
      @Bakrybaso94 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EverydayAstro You're right, the earlier the better. I was using the Starnet after finishing the processing , but I tried after one stretch (APP Strech) and it worked just perfect! Thank you!
