      You'll never EVER be able to get anywhere near the full effect....even if the listening end has a $10k playback system, it's just not gonna come across even remotely close to what it originally was. Certain things are very hard to reproduce sonically...even with a subkick microphone, mind numbing bass like that is lost. The only way to experience that is to be right there.

    • @rickfeith6372
      @rickfeith6372 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nicewhenearnedrudemostlyel489 Not entirely....most consumer grade gear has some built in EQ...for whatever reason, from factory tuning, to not flat speakers, to listening position, and a dozen other little things that all add up to a massively different listening environment, take that for what it's worth. This is the philosophy behind studio monitors....they are "supposed to be" extremely flat in their response. That means that from 20hz to 20khz (human hearing) the speakers shouldn't add or subtract more than a couple dB across the board if you measure them. Basically, if you can make something sound good on decent studio monitors in a proper listening environment, it should travel well....that means it should sound even better in your car stereo/hi-fi headphones, home theater, etc.
      So there you have it....you can pretty much guarantee that whatever you got won't sound entirely like the producer intended, but that's just the nature of the beast....it doesn't mean that it sounds bad, but it will definitely add it's own flavor to the mix.

    You should invest in a kick drum mic like a Shure Beta 52a that is design to handle those low frequencies perfectly. Run it through a Zoom recorder and then over sun the better audio into the video in post for the system demos.
    So far no car audio channel I follow has done this. I know it takes more time but the demos would be more accurate.
    Not being critical. Just coming from an audio engineer and tech director of 25 years. Might help.

    The dry fitting suggestion is excellent. I have definitely made that mistake before. I made a box for a small SUV that was supposed to perfectly fit in the cargo area with the rear seat up. Then when I installed it I forgot that the tail gate angled inward so even though I though I had undersized it slightly, it ended up being exactly one inch too long to fold the rear seat back up.

    Spectacular build bro. I wrote off Rockford in about 2006 but this sub looks like it is well built. Glad to see them coming back. I was a huge fan in the late 90s.
    I would suggest using a countersink bit to make recesses for your screw heads. I didn't see it happening here, but MDF can sometimes split when the screw head impacts even when predrilled.
    I need a link to that spacing tool you use. I've been doing this by hand and, well that's primitive now that I see your tool. Good purchase.

    Have you ever built a subwoofer enclosure from 3/4 birch ply laminated with formica on the internal surfaces/ports? Seems to me that would produce optimal stiffness, reduce weight, and eliminate any concerns about the voids in the plies or roughness of the plywood surface.

  • @Luciferkrist
    @Luciferkrist 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One question I've never gotten a good answer for when assembling an enclosure: Is it better to 1) start from one end of a row of screws or 2) to do the ends, then the middle, then the rest, or 3) middle and work to one ends? Honestly, when building mine it usually depends on the length and number of holes, but I always wondered if there was an objectively optimal way.

      If it's a ported enclosure it usually will be substantially bigger. But you have other options & here are 2 options that I like. You can use a sealed enclosure. Which usually requires less air space. But does require more power to be as efficient. As a ported enclosure & also may have less bass than a ported enclosure. But my favorite enclosure is 1 with 2 passive radiators. With a subwoofer in a medium kinda small enclosure. It just depends on the tuning frequency that is desired. To me it's the best of a seal enclosure size. But still having deep bass like a ported enclosure.

    I just bought this sub. I paired it with a rocksford power 1000 amp. Is my amp big enough for this 13” power subwoofer?

    Man I would "kill"for one of those Rockford subs.
    Not a person but maybe a roach or something I usually kill without feeling bad about it the next day .

    Has a Q for anyone to answer, can I wire a 3way coaxial and a 2 way component set together in series, and if so, which would be the first inline and do they need to have the same Rms input or would I set the gain to the lowest value?

    Can you help me with a good design for 2 skar Evl 12s and a taramps 5k amp? I’m hoping for 5.5-6 cubes tuned anywhere 28-33 hz, and to build a box to replace my backseat in crew cab 2012 f250. I was thinking forward firing and ports up, then build a custom for the top to utilize when needed as a bench seat as well.

    Nice work, great tutorial, very helpful! Cheers and thanks. (Currently reinforcing and custom fitting an old vintage steamer trunk and could not figure out how to best-contain my sub from the lefts and rights and still have room for a touchscreen on the front, this solved my problem, thanks bud!)

    I have a small question, Does port direction matter? I ask this because when a subwoofer moves the air exiting and entering the port moves 180° out of phase to the subwoofer, can this rob acoustic energy similar to 2 speakers being wired in opposite polarity?

    Thats all I build my systems for, is the bass. Dont care much for the lyrics, esp in rap songs. But I do love the bass, a true bass head I guess. I always want more thump in the trunk.

    In 2006 I went to world famous IFA spells like Int'l Broadcasting Exhibition, where I sat in some US American show cars like Dodge Charger or Humvee with great audio installations. Even some smaller European cars with sophisticated installations were shown. 18" or larger woofers were used, but not put into enclosures instead mounted in organic shaped carbon fiber frames. This way part of the cabins still looked occupied but also half open, so I assume the entire cabin was used as resonance room. My listening experience was overwhelming. I wonder how some people till now give recommendations to build loudspeaker housings into cars these days. Of course one can have a deep bass in the trunk of let's say a Benz SE 560 occupying the entire trunk, but the space is gone and how will GFs respond to that?

    Would there be a way you could help me on this question? Can you use a amp that has rms power of 1125watts at 2 ohms and a max 1500watts at 2 ohms with a subwoofer that has 950 watts rms and 1900 watt max? Btw i have a boss audio pm1500 amp and also wondering if you have any suggestions for that amp?
