Hi Christiaan. This is great. I was at DFNW this year (and had the pleasure of hearing you playing around town). I went to Mathieu Chatelain's rhythm workshop - what you are showing here was a big part of his approach too. A big emphasis on getting the sound right and aiming for similar sound and physical movement for all beats but then naturally accenting the 2 and 4 while keeping a strong crunchy and bassy sound to the 1 and 3.
Thanks Christiaan. This is a very clear breakdown of rhythm technique - easily the best I've seen on TH-cam. Is it my imagination, or is your 'sweep' on beats 2 and 4 slightly quicker (i.e. more of a whip) than the crunchier strokes on beats 1 and 3?
It is but I think it's more important to focus on getting that crunchy sound on EVERY beat. The sweep strokes will be somewhat faster naturally but focusing on that specific thing is what makes many people have a bad rhythm sound!

Also, what's that nifty little ending you tagged onto Hungaria? I'll try to break it down but it would be great if you did a video of endings like that. Would be helpful to know some chord licks to spice up the endings of songs.
Hi Christian I know this nothing to with the this video but please tell me how I can learn minor swing no improvisation just the exact way Django played it and how can I learn the others greats like djangos tiger etc your a inspiration to me keep up the good work
Another helpful video! One piece of constructive criticism- in my opinion the camera (or maybe just the zoom?) that you were using in earlier videos was better. In recent videos your face is cut off which looks a bit odd. Still great content, so not a big deal but thought I’d let you know. Thanks for all the lessons!
Thanks, yeah I know but this is just shot with the selfie cam of my phone instead of a fancy DSLR. The truth is that using my phone is so much faster and easier so for now I'm sticking with it!
Starting with each beat the same is a really good uncomplicated way of establishing a base and working from there. Really helped me. Thanks.
