Setting boundaries is really great. Coming up with a list of activities is great but make sure some are free. I spoiled mine taking them to expensive activities and taking my little to eat and one time when I wouldn’t take her out to eat she got upset. That was a learning opportunity for both of us. I was able to speak with her about how taking her out was a treat and I would not be taking her out to eat again unless I wanted to treat her and that would be seldom and she could not expect that.
Yes this is really solid advice. I’ve had to have similar conversations about spending money. All kids will test your boundaries and it’s up to us as a Big to let them know where our boundaries lie. I’d say we go out to eat only 1/3rd of the time and the rest is just cooking a pizza at home or something like that. We actually really enjoy cooking together.
Thanks for stepping up to be a Big! You will not regret it! Love my Little and she’s getting ready to graduate high school very soon it’s gone by so fast.
I would love to do this because I want to foster teens but I’m young and inexperienced right now. I also heard there are a lot of kids struggling with reading skills and reading is one of my passions so I want to share that with others. I know so many people my age that had a hard time or didn’t get to do fun things and it meant so much to go out and do them.
Omg so excited for you! I remember being so nervous! It’ll be great. Just know your Little is so excited to meet you and they be a bit shy the first few meetups. Goodluck! It’s an amazing gift of service you are giving your community 💚
Thanks for the video! I had no idea about this organization, discovered it just quite recently when I was doing my master's assignment and I loved it. You clearly described it and I appreciate that!
Wow this was amazing. I have my third meet up with my little sister today and have been struggling to navigate how to approach our time together. Thank you!
GREAT STUFF! Thanks for making the time to share, couldn't find your Playlist on this topic, but think I found everything in search, appreciate the info 😘
Thanks for this video! I watched your first one from a year ago. So glad I checked back to see your updates. I want to be a big sister but I’m waiting for the corona virus to go away. So that will be for another year. Lol.
Oh gosh! That sucks for all the kids who are waiting for a Big. I enjoy the time with my little and it gives me a chance to be a kid again in a lot of ways.
Hahaha I need mentorship and I’m turning 30 this year. Truly everybody in life needs mentors and it doesn’t stop when you age. We are all living life for the first time together.
I recommend volunteering for homeless shelters and day centers or clothing pantries- as a young person it was comforting to meet older people who volunteered because as we did work for others together their guidance, stories, and wisdom gave me direction. Selfless people that are goal oriented and who have children that are grown have a lot to offer us.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm about to start orientation for BBBS and I'm so nervous/excited but mostly nervous. :) There really isn't any content on what to expect or tips on how to start off on the right foot, so this is helpful!
I've been volunteering as a hospice companion for a couple of years now and most of your tips apply quite well to what I do. Things like what we do are a personal set of volunteering and require commitment. If you can't commit, there might be better opportunities for volunteering.
I did hospice volunteering and found it both difficult and rewarding. I loved the patients that had stories to tell. They gave me guidance and comfort as I was giving them companionship.
I’ve posted but can’t find it. Oh well. Be clear with parents how they want their child to be disciplined. What’s acceptable, maybe get some of what they do for ideas to have consistency for all. Know what is ok for discussing, how they deal with issues which may come up. There are so many good suggestions in this video. Would like a copy because that’s how I learn. Then add my own thoughts, for reference.
Hello There thank you for the tips I am interested in getting involved to make a difference. This will be very helpful if and when I start with my match. God Bless 🙏 💖
I was just reading about this on their website and in the FAQ it said no for the most part, but sometimes they might give you free tickets to certain events... this is the website if you can’t find it www.bbbs.org/about-us/ (sorry Bella for answering him I just had seen your video and his comment so I decided to be helpful😄 )
@@ethannaka1822 no problem! I’m thinking of signing up too! I hope it goes well for you! I heard they are needing more men for the boy littles, idk if its just in my area or everywhere. But that’s great you want to be a Big too! Good luck!
They host a monthly event in my chapter. These events are thinkings like bowling, skating, cookouts, etc. Those are free. Every thing else you have to pay for out of pocket.
No they don’t help pay for anything but some people don’t spend money because they will take the child to the park for a few hours and then take them home. My lil sis is constantly saying she is hungry or thirsty so it makes me wonder if they don’t feed her at home.
Oh your comment says problem not program. I did the community based because with the school one you have less flexibility in terms of when you can come. I also just like being able to take my Little to different places and have her come to my home and hangout. Sometimes we just watch Netflix together! It’s nice to be able to do that.
hi .. i am pavneet k .. international student .. and i got a assignment on this topic and i have to describe the role of the employee in this ..and i don't know how to find the information about this ..please help me out please
Thanks for doing this video which has good content. I believe the commitment for becoming a big is one year. Is that correct? I am also curious whether the big organization provides guidance on ending, continuing, or transforming the relationship after the one year.
I think they recommend at least a year, but reasonable you are signing up for a pretty big commitment unless you move away or have some extenuating life circumstances. 3 years later and me and my little still hang out a couple times a month. They really haven’t done much in terms of maintaining our relationship. That’s all on us. They have monthly events to go to though so that makes it more accessible if you don’t have money to take them somewhere all the time.

In the process of becoming a "Big Brother"! Thanks for this. Very helpful! Imma subscribe for more!
Great! Hope it works out for you!
Excellent! I hope it went well. Big Brothers are so needed.
Wow this was amazing. I have my third meet up with my little sister today and have been struggling to navigate how to approach our time together. Thank you!
Awww! It will get easier. After 2 years of hanging out, me and my sis just sort of have our own little routine now.

I need mentorship for daily life at 18. I'm glad I came across this video because I was just thinking about it.

Bella, does the program help pay for any activities ?

What problem you pick from big brother and big sister
I’m not understanding your question.
@@HellaBella do you pick community based or school based
