Thank you for posting. I'm thinking of becoming a big brother, but with such little information available I didn't know what I was getting myself into. So this was very helpful.
@@sirphew4941 no the traditional big brother program was eliminated in my area. The program they have now didn't seem like the type of thing that I was thinking of signing up for. Good luck though, I'm sure you will do great, and change the life of someone in need for the better.
You are amazing for making this video. I feel like I've gotten this little "tap" on my shoulder for the majority of my life, as I've always wanted to be a big sister for someone. Thank you for this video, which is so helpful for someone who has no idea about the process or what to expect! Since it's been a few years after you've made this, I know you've made a difference in many lives. Thank you.
I’ve been telling my Little that we need to make an update video. It’s been a year and 5 months since we got matched. I’m so happy I decided to do it. I had the same tap you are talking about where I thought I needed to do something for someone else besides myself, especially since I’m child free.
I think it's amazing what your wanting to do. I was in foster care myself but was lucky enough that someone I babysat for did foster care classes so that I can live with them. So greatful as they have been and are still in my life and my children's. The Big Brother Big Sister will make a difference in someone's life.
Thank you for saying that. I realize as I get older that I was very privileged and did not have to worry about things that other kids did have to worry about. My childhood wasn’t perfect, but I never had concerns for money or where I was going to live. It sounds like you crossed paths with the right people at the right time.
Thank you so much for this video, I’ve signed up for BBBS to be a big and I’m excited but this helped calm some anxiety about what to expect. I really appreciate this insight!
Thank you for making this video!! I too am very interested in becoming a big sister and your video was very helpful. I hope all is going great for you and your little. ❤️
Thanks, yeah I couldn’t find much either I’ve got an friend who did it for a long time so I’m waiting to hear from him but just wanted to know the process so again thanks for posting this video.
I appreciate your effort to inform people about this process. I have recently applied and waiting to see if they are interested in me being a big sister. I think its all online right now due to covid but I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes. Thank you
Wow! Is there anything you don’t do?!? You are amazing!!! I had an older brother and sister growing up but I would have LOVED to have a big growing up! My siblings were horrible to me...and still are even though we’re all in our 40s 😒
So sorry to hear that! Unfortunately I know several people who have told me that they don’t speak to their siblings now that they are adults. It’s hard to mend a damaged relationship when there is so much history there.

Idk why I wana do this. But I was always the older kid in our family taking care of my cousins and stuff kids are fun to be around I think they are curious and you get to show them all kinds of new things. Now I’m out of high school and moved and I miss my family sooo..
i didn't know they visited the home, i have a crazy german shepherd so i guess thats not gonna work. i wouldnt plan on bringing them to my home anyway though because i live with my parents so i wonder if there are other options
They probably wouldn't care as long as you tell them you're not bringing your Little to your home. Many Bigs are college students who still live in dorms or with their parents. I'd say go for it anyways. What do you have to lose?
Thank you for posting. I am very interested in doing this because I love kids but I do not want to have children. I hope someday I can do this and maybe even become a foster parent if I think I'm up for the challenge. I do not want to have kids of my own because of health issues in my family as well as I believe it's kind of wrong to bring more children into this world when there's millions out there who need a good home (just in case anyone is wondering lol).
Anything you can do to be a consistent person in a child’s life is definitely helping them. So many children grow up with instability or feeling alone and BBBS really helps with that. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I know you won’t regret it!
They do a home visit? I just applied and didn’t realize they did a home visit. I applied for the same reasons and I was honest about my past and asked if I would be denied due to my past record. I told her I’m a home owner now and a mom and she told me it doesn’t necessarily exclude someone, just depends on what the charges were and how long ago. Now that it’s been two years though since this video was made, do you have any advice? Did you end up getting matched?
I've had a little sis for 2 years. I love the BBBS program. I would encourage anyone who has some extra time and resources to do it. The home visit is standard with my program. I'm sure it will be fine.
Hey my friends I'm dying to know how this is going for you this is something I've been thinking about doing for a while and you're the one that's come up with the most answers things I haven't thought about yet I'm trying to figure out how I can get ahold of you to talk to you about this if nothing else I just keep sending you questions on here
If you have additional questions I can answer here, but the best thing to do is call your local BBBS because they will be happy to talk with you and see if it's a good fit.
I kinda thought the BBBS program was almost like day camp. Where u all hang out together. But do ur own thing. Not do things with the kids alone. Like your their parent. That is kinda throwing me off about even trying this out. Just seems more like a co-parent thing. Over being someones big sister or brother.
I have seen some cases where the Little gets a husband and wife for their Bigs. It’s probably done on a case by case basis. There are a lot more little boys waiting for a Big in my area.

Very informative video. Thank you so much for sharing. I was considering being a mentor so this is very helpful.

How is big brothers big sisters going for you? Would be interesting to hear an update.
Still waiting to schedule Match Day to meet my little, but we should get to meet within the month. It has been a long process.
thank you very much for posting, i'm looking for info because I'm interested in volunteering!
Awesome! I just met my Little's mom last week and we are going to hopefully have Match Day soon! :)

This is so helpful, thank you!!
Do you have a suggestion of what to wear to the interview??
It is pretty casual. Just a nice shirt and jeans should be okay. They care way more about what you say than what you wear.
This is very informative! Thank you :)
Thank you!
thanks for sharing
If you don't have a space for them to sleep can you be denied or will they just not be allowed to sleep over
You don’t have to have a space for them to sleep. It’s not required to do sleepovers and some people don’t because they don’t feel comfortable.
Thank you 🙏🏼

I never got my match. Starting to think they saw this video and decided against it. I was very surprised.
Nice video thanks

Yes I had to meet with my Little's mother and now that we have met, we have to schedule match day. I will be doing this at her school.

Wait can you also have a family and not a big sister or big brother?
I have seen some cases where the Little gets a husband and wife for their Bigs. It’s probably done on a case by case basis. There are a lot more little boys waiting for a Big in my area.
Can teenagers do BBBS?
I believe they have an in-school program where highschoolers can mentor
I study business administration. Businesses are not supposed to ask your sexual orientation or your religious views.
I agree. It doesn’t seem relevant to me.
