For most of human history the world population was below 1 billion people prior 1800. Maybe it's time for human civilization to make more space for nature and other species. The balance between wild life and humans is only possible if human civilization actually shrinks. What has happened the last two centuries is abnormal and put biodiversity at risk. It's time for humans to get back to normal. 1-3 billions people on Earth would be just fine.
I remember when people thought population growth would outpace the planet's ability to sustain them. Maybe the species is just finding an equilibrium with its environment. Do we really want millions of people everywhere?

What u are saying is not the reason …that’s the cause for the thought of choosing not to have children, and this choice comes from various reasons like how it feels like a sin to bring a new life into this cruel world and into this suffrage
When my mom was a kid, they were two kids on one salary. They owned a home, went on holiday every year, and had money for new cars, toys, food, etc. That was considered an average middle-class family in the 60's & 70's. That's an exceedingly wealthy family today. The problem is inflation, and the destruction of wealth of the middle-class.
@ It is a direct result of deficit spending. Elon Musk recently tweeted a truth: all government spending is taxation. It does not matter if they collect the tax directly or via inflation. It is all tax. And I might add, that it is really the size of government tax that determines if a country is free or communist. It is a spectrum. Using that measure, the United States is far more communist than it use to be. Similarly, China is far less communist than it used to be.

Why sad? Its natural cycle...this kind of cycle happens in every species. If humans continue their growth...environment will show its effects with extreme weathers and change in weather patterns. Like floods and droughts.
Women in Western countries are pressured to have a successful career and work long hours, contribute equally on financial terms to the marriage while also physically bearing the children, raising and educating them. It's even worse now with the cost of living as even two income families are working only for survival. It's not possible for a woman in this situation to have more than one or two children. Especially when they delay having children to their 30s or 40s - grandparent now too old to help look after the kids. Women now have to care for children and parents at the same time and it's too much hard work. They are exhausted. Children raised in this way are also insecure and do not experience the value of a family or community.

I live in Singapore & I love the country, it's people & the government here. They are working as efficiently as a country can. Singapore is easily the fittest country in the world too. One big problem nobody is talking about is the ability to give enough time to children. Over-reliability on helpers to look after the kid or putting them to childcare has become a norm. Actually it is very good for poor people and middle class people because if population decreases then competition also gets decreased, hence money distribution across the nation also decreases so, few people will have more money.😂
Buying power is driven by resource availability and productivity. If there's a limit to resources such as iron, declining populations may improve commodity prices as reduced iron demand limits iron production to the cheapest to operate mines as iron prices fall. However, if such limits are not a question, then the real limit to wealth is productivity. Declining populations don't necessarily increase productivity, beyond a certain point, it may decrease it due to decreased division of labor and the productivity advantages from specialization. But future AI and robots do.
When population declines, the opportunities too will decline. If there is less population why should there be the current number of jobs. For examples if you have 2000 clerks in your town. Suppose the population goes down I know you think you can with your improved odds compete easily for those jobs . But the reality is population is halved, the number of clerks posts gets halved as well
No. Not as simple as that. The poor and middle class will not get richer as population declines. Wealth redistribution is not equal. The wealthy may get richer while the poor will get poorer. Lower population will lead to lower demand for housing and land, eroding the value of those assets, hence making the owners poor. Economic production declines, leading to lower consumer demand and depress the incomes. Ultimately, the government will need to decide how to prioritise. Social welfare or economic development, taxation, investment, automation will all be impacted.
To sound the conch of Dharma, you need people; to gather people, the right economic conditions are essential. For the right economic conditions, an ideal or utopian society is required, which in turn depends on stable jobs and strong family values. But the other hand, we face challenges such as AI, corporate greed, declining family values, massive corruption, CEOs who prioritize profits at all costs, disregard for the environment, fake news, and climate change. Who will win this tug of war? Who will sound the conch Dharma in such tumult?

The reason why so much more people are stressed over higher cost of living, work today is because there are so much more of us fighting over these little resources. And now everything AI, companies want profits, they do not want expensive labor cost. So more people to be squeezed into more tinier space, drink bad water, little food. Depopulate will happen in poor countries first (not developed country) also continental will cease to exist as most people will fly to USA. Asia may go first, then africa or other continents. It may be 100 to 200 years of prediction as different people will measure it by different scale. There is no reversal of this trend.
People in poor countries are breeding at high rate and also families farm on their own...The rural life with modern life is a normal thing in Africa...The problem will be the countries with high urban population...People here in the villages require less money to afford good organic food, good weather, good clean water and shelter..

Women having kids and contributing equally means she’s put their children in generational traumas.

The only viable solution to this problem is:
1. Raise men to be more responsible, compassionate and desirable as husbands and fathers.
2. Stop the influx of mass immigration from countries with toxic values and religious beliefs.

Definitely 💯 right, the world we live in is fully modernised without humanities.
All developed countries are facing the very same problem. So... It's not a Singapore issue.
Its not a Problem at all!
@BrunoHeggli-zp3nl oh! You say so? That's an impressive revelation. I wonder...
So what? Thats very nice for earth.
The only reason is hight cost of living. And mainly education.
he is right, my aunt transfer to Singapore but she will stay in Philippines and not even in Japan 😢 Singapore is always in her heart
ElonMusk is a creature we give too much importance to.
Don't disrespect creatures. Lets call him a brainy fool :P
Isnt that what we want, less population ? If one country has low population ratio how alarming is that since there are other countries over populated so thats nature way to balance. The concern would be if human race is on verge of extinction - definitely not until Musk is around

Population decline is not a problem, but it does present challenges and opportunities. The root cause is that women now have a choice, except in Afghanistan. If life's prospects become better with additional children, parents will choose to have them. It's about the quality of life, not the quantity of population.
Not to worry ,Singapore population has been growing and will continue to grow . People are lining up to migrate to Singapore. Most of them did not succeed as Singapore can only take limited immigrants because it is a very small country.
no worries filipino workers will replenish them
Indians too
