    Oh, you are in for some fun if you decide to go down this rabbit hole. These guys are just as comfortable arranging and performing pop or rock songs as they are sounding as though they belong on a Disney soundtrack. When J. None was still with them, they could lay down a mean R&B groove (and I wouldn't put it past Eli now to still be able to nail that vibe). They always put their own spin on the music (Geoff, the bass, and Layne, the vocal percussionist, tend to split the arrangements between them) while still remaining faithful to the source material. But they are by far the most creative of the current a cappella groups out there. You're going to get a lot of suggestions for songs to react to; they're all going to be excellent choices, for a variety of reasons. You won't ever be bored by these guys (and gals, in this case).

    Loved your reaction, thanks! They do a lot of Disney medleys you may enjoy - Little Mermaid, Moana - but I'd suggest you check out Hoist the Colors from Pirates of the Caribbean - it's mind blowing. There really aren't any bad choices, it's just about what songs you are drawn to. Also check out Geoff Castellucci's personal channel. Geoff is VP's bass, and he just released a stunning arrangement of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.

    Hoist the Colours by Voiceplay is a must.

    Really enjoyed your reaction - welcome to the Voiceplay rabbit hole. Layne Stein, beatboxer, Eli Jacobson (pronounced Ell-ee) tenor, Cesar de la Rosa, tenor/baritone, and Geoff (Jeff) Castellucci, bass. Rachel Potter has worked with them many times, Emoni Wilkins several times.
    Hoist the Colours should be next, then If I Were a Rich Man/Girl.. After that, anything that strikes you. The line up changed in the last 18 months, so you will see featured artists and other members of the crew. It's all good.

    Voiceplay always does an amazing job of making the songs their own, while still paying homage to the original. I'd say go see the show, it'll genuinely make you appreciate the way Voiceplay treats the songs they cover. Seeing that 'tis the season, I'd recommend You're A Mean One Mr Grinch by Voiceplay.

    To be honest, I like this version of the musical's songs better than the actual musical. Geoff arranged this so well. He even made "Wonderful" a fun song, haha. Emoni and Rachel are such PHENOMENAL singers!

    Welcome to VoicePlay. Pick literally anything they do and you'll be happy. This is an awesome rabbit hole! They arrange all their own music, do lighting, costumes--everything. Oh, and Geoff doesn't even hit his lowest notes here. ;)

    Voiceplay is consistently amazing. They are all incredibly talented. Some suggestions: fun seasonal stuff: Oogie Boogie Song, You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch. Stuff that showcases their incredible voices: well everything, but specifically: If I Were a Rich Man/Girl (if you like the musical vibe), Hoist the Colours (from pirates of the Caribbean), Carry On, My Wayward Son and I Can’t Help Falling In Love. Amazing. Also Geoff Castellucci, the bass singer from the group (who also did the arrangement, has a number of songs where he’s multi-tracked himself and it’s all his amazing range in different layers. For him try 16 Tons, God Rest Ye, Mary Gentlemen, and Monster Mash and Headless Horseman. Lot's of people love to watch people here these for the first time, so it usually pulls in subscribers too. :-)

    You can’t go wrong with any video by VoicePlay. If you like musicals, you could choose If I Were a Rich Man. From the Disney genre my favorite is their Little Mermaid medley. (That one might explain the look Geoff was giving Cesar when he cried “Kill the witch”). For straight up a cappella with no beatboxing, their version of True Colors emphasized the words, which aren’t always heard. And my personal favorite is Queen in Five Minutes. That one give each member a chance to shine while taking the lead.

    They’re all so great, and Rachel has had a magnet set for my heart every since I heard her in the cover of Phantom of the Opera

    They just dropped a new one-a medley of songs from The Greatest Showman-pretty awesome. The Little Mermaid Medley is great, as is Hoist the Colours, and My Mother Told Me. You should also check out Carry On Wayward Son, just to see them doing something that is NOT theatrical. The bass, Geoff Castellucci, also has a solo channel that you might enjoy.

    Oogie Boogie's Song by VoicePlay. Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @leechowning2712
    @leechowning2712 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    PS... No. Just no. Watch one like Oggie Boogies Song, then look up the original... and learn this one thing. Geoff and Eli, the two who arrange alll their songs? Yeah. They do not make covers. They make songs inspired by other songs, but once you have heard theirs you will be ruined for anyone else. Never listen to them cover your favorite songs... they will make it such that you cannot imagine listening to anything else.
