Thanks for the post of the sheet music! This suite is one of the best examples of Tchaikovsky's genius in composition and orchestration integrating his heavenly melodies in spectacular orchestration. Before Tchaikovsky, no composer ever utilized the orchestra in such a manner of multilayer notation where the melody, counterpoint, harmony, and more, are so beautifully blended in fascinating tonal colors. This unique genius of Tchaikovsky is one of the reasons that has made his music eternally appealing to the world over.

These rapid flurries (timbral juxtapositions) that alternate between winds and strings are so wonderful and vibrant ! Berlioz, and later, Raff, among others, employed these techniques, but then, ... Tchaikovsky, wow ... !!!
Everything from Tchaikovsky’s pen was dance music, you just have to imagine the soloists and the corps de ballet. It’s still enjoyable though in that context. The Valse is lovely. The suites purpose is to entertain and it does so brilliantly. It’s a refreshing change from the usual fare.

Without a doubt this is my favorite of Tchaikovsky's orchestral suites. Less bombastic and prone to bathos than the others, and the first and second mvts. remind me often of his Serenade for Strings. Odd that it is not performed more frequently. A bit of re-orchestration could I'm sure could solve the necessity of incorporating accordions in the performance. In the obvious repetitive V-I passages, for instance, winds, especially all oboes, EH and bassoons could be called upon to approximate the spirit, if not the sound of the accordions. :-)
Yes, there are resemblances to the Serenade for Strings in the opening two movements, also a premonition of Petrushka in the central section of the third movement, and of Nutcracker's shimmering impressionistic passages in the fourth.
A pity that the accordions can't be heard! The whole work is surely one of the most experimental, playful, and Dionysian works Tchaikovsky every penned!

Tchaikovsky is really superb. All his music goes beyond all word. Orchestral suites are marvellous indeed.
