    I'm really tired of people saying, 'It's such a great beginner bike.' There's no such thing as a beginner bike - just beginner riders! I'm 54 years young and I've ridden all the big powerplants. I find more excitement in the below 600cc class because you can actually USE the entire motor. This teaches you better judgement with respect to breaking, throttle, and when to apply them than you'll ever get riding a bike like an R1. You'll never in real life use more than 1/4-1/3 of an R1's motor, except on a track or long straight. Most of your miles of commuting are wasted on bikes like that. My last bike was a Ninja 1000, and what a monster it was, but I rarely redlined it or brought it to the limits of its suspension. THAT'S THE FUN OF THE R3! You get to know the bike's limits and become GOOD at it! I guarantee I'll burn riders on the corners in their R1's. Yeah, they'll blow me off on a straight but then they have to brake WAY early and carry to much weight to take the corner as fast as I can on an R3. Pisses some riders off, while other riders smile because they know EXACTLY what you're doing.

      If you haven't already, test the ninja 300 :) I love it, great bike. I haven't rode the R3 yet but when I sat on it, I remember feeling like it was too small. I'm 6'0" 180 Ibs.

      Joseph Arreygue I've actually sat on a ninja 300 (getting ready for when I turn 19 and can get a bigger bike from UK laws) but couldn't get comfy on it sadly cause they seem like such a nice bike :/ But when I got my R125 it fits me perfectly, so hopefully so will the R3. But thanks for the suggestion :)

    I personally have a ninja 300, and love it! Mind you, I stepped down from a 2007 ninja ZX6R to a 2014 ninja 300. I was a little annoyed in your ninja 300 first ride video because you said there wasn't much power. The whole time I was yelling "open it up and then tell me that." There's more power than you expect. You were riding it in the lower RPMs. If you want the power the 300 has, granted it is just a 300, you have to ride it at a higher RPM. I ride my 3 like it's a 6 and love every minuet of it. It's a great bike that's not just for beginners.

  • @spacep0d

    This is gonna get a crap-ton of views! Watching nao. I plan to ride and review one in SoCal ASAP! :)
    The R3 is a 320cc bike, compared to the 299cc of the Ninja 300 and the 286cc of the single-cylinder CBR300R.
    Huge props to Yamaha for entering the lightweight-sportbike market. This market is truly here to stay now. I haven't ridden the R3 yet, but people keep asking me which I would recommend (this or the 300), and I keep saying that they really can't go wrong either way. Yam and Kawi both have strong dealer networks and we know the aftermarket supports the 300, but will no-doubt enthusiastically-embrace the R3 as well.
    Great review, Chase!

      ***** I love the shorty vids! (haha) Chase's vid are great for variety, but I think he's pretty tall. (though that's a relative term for a squirt like me)It's short of hard to tell if the bikes that Chase rides would work for me. (I'm 5')

    • @spacep0d
      @spacep0d 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Melissa Neil
      Yep. I pay-attention to the short-rider angle coz I am short too. ;) Nice to sometimes ride a bike where you feel normal height, and these smaller sportbikes fit that bill nicely (experienced or not).

    • @VannilaTasty
      @VannilaTasty 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +spacep0d Yeah! I've been subbed to you for a while so I can prove to my parents that
      a) It is physically possible!
      b) There are options that work that aren't mopeds!
      I'm looking pretty hard at the CBR300 since I hear it's the squirt of the squirt bikes... confirm/deny?

    • @spacep0d
      @spacep0d 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Melissa Neil
      I wouldn't buy a 286cc single which is the CBR300R-not with all the way-better choices you have; R3 or Ninja 300. I ride the Ninja 300 and it's a fantastic bike. It's pretty well-modded, but people who have ridden have rated it 10/10 (including BXD and others). It's good! I don't know much about the R3 yet and you may have a point about first-year bikes (working out the kinks), but recalls on the 300 have been minor. Probably the worst one was an ECU recall but that's well over by now.

    • @VannilaTasty
      @VannilaTasty 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I hear the Ninja and R3 are totally worth the money, and from what I've seen and heard from my rider friends, it is. The Honda gets me on the price, and I hear it may be even easier to foot than the Ninja or R3. My question is, "Even with the price and smaller size for me who is tinytinytiny, is the Honda not worth it?"
      Btw! Not trying to pick a fight! Just... want... to save money...

    I just bought the Yamaha YZF-R3 as my first bike 2 days ago, and I'm extremely happy! This bike is seriously fast! He is right. All of the power is at the higher RPM. I just wish it had ABS and a slipper clutch. I would definitely recommend this bike to anyone who loves riding. BTW. I have the blue one.

    I bought mine a few days ago. I have been riding for over 20 years and have had bikes like an rz350, Katana 600 and a Gsxr 750. This bike is fantastic. I rode this for 5 hours the second night I had it and my back wasn't sore, my wrists didn't hurt and I felt great. In the twisties, this bike is so impressive. You get to use the power you have. Flicks from one extreme to the other, effortlessly. This bike seems to have as much power as my '03 600 katana did, but it handles way better. New rider or experienced, take this bike for a test ride. I'm 5'11 and around 180 lbs. Fits like a glove. Great review Chase, I must have watched it 20 times. Keep them coming.

    I think one of the negative things about this bike is the stickering. It says R3 and 320 all over it. So it wont be mistaken for a bigger bike. One of the beauties of the Kawi 300 is it looks like a 600. Just my opinion.

    • @NinjabootsVlogs
      @NinjabootsVlogs 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    • @ajmaslaney

      Same here. And i believe the ninja tops out at a higher speed than the R3. Depends on the rider weight and all that. We will wait for youtube to verify that!

      ImperialLegionTV Buy a 600? Your welcome? No. Buying a 600cc or 1000cc sports bike is a waste nowadays. I owned a s1000rr for 2 years and honestly found myself not even using 60% of the power. It was also uncomfortable as all hell too. Test rode this bike, loved it, sold the BMW, bought an R3 for spirited/semi sporty rides and a cruiser for long distances trips with the guys. Don't miss the s1000rr one bit. Sure it was brutally fast when you needed it to be, but for everyday use, its absolutely not needed. I've got up to 188km/hr on my R3 and you never need to go higher than that anywhere. You buy a track oriented bike like a 600cc or 1000cc and you'll want to use that power, that's no surprise. But you really should be asking yourself if you SHOULD use that power. The only time your actually using a 600cc or 1000cc bike to its benefit is when your driving like a mad man on public roads. I've seen too many friends and fellow riders ending up dead or disfigured by playing with powerful bikes when they had absolutely no reason to.

Yamaha tour comes here this June so I am going to take it for a spin then. And what he said about seeing other riders on cool bikes makes you want one is so true. That's what happened with me. Seen someone on TH-cam riding around on an R6 and I NEEDED to get a bike. One of the best decisions I ever made.

    Trying to decide between an R3 or a KTM rc390. The R3 is a little cheaper but the KTM has a bit more power (granted, its quite a bit pricier OTD) and is a slimmer bike (which I like).
    Anyone have thoughts on this?

      +Ghost I was trying to make the exact same decision. I had the RC 390 as my desktop background for months because I was sold on the looks.
      I still think the RC 390 looks better, but almost everything else about the R3 is better according to the majority of reviews I've seen. In Canada, the RC390 is about 1500 dollars more than the R3, which made me choose the R3 haha.
      Good luck man! They are both cool bikes! I can't wait to get the R3 in a couple of weeks! :)

    I bought this bike this past Friday and absolutely love it. It's my first bike and perfect for beginners. I'm 5'7 ,140lbs and can easily flat foot on this bike which is awesome because most sportbikes I have to tiptoe on and that can be quite uncomfortable. Also, being only 321cc it has just enought torque to where I feel I won't kill myself lol. If you're shorter than 5'11 or just looking for a starter bike this is a great option.

    would be cool if they just used an r6 motor with two cylinders cut off.

    • @AE86ofMtAkina
      @AE86ofMtAkina 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Or make a smaller engine with the same amount of cylinders.

    • @KTMcaptain
      @KTMcaptain 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Quinn Dang what makes the r6 expensive is the r&d, the suspension, the brakes, etc.
      using the same dimensions for another motor such as bore x stroke, cam profiles, etc can give you the same power per liter, around 55 at the wheel for a 300, and the only added cost would be better bearings.
      $200 charge on top would more than cover it, and it spreads out engine research costs.
      just not a healthy power band, but offer two. one with normal 40 engine hp and a 60hp model that's a couple hundred more. (r3s &r3).

    • @superbikesrule6012
      @superbikesrule6012 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      like your perspective

    • @KTMcaptain
      @KTMcaptain 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't say r&d was the only cost.
      the quality parts, such as better forks, shock, brakes, wheels, etc along with the cost of r&d is what makes it expensive.
      Yamaha wouldn't need to engineer a new motor per se, just lop off two cylinders like Chevy and BMW have done in the past.
      obviously they are simply competing in the market, but that doesn't mean they couldn't flip the market upside down and put out a clearly superior product.

    'I feel like I'm sitting in a business chair' - great decryption and not how you'd describe the KTM RC390 which I have. Great review, speaking aloud my own thoughts/questions about the bike which wasn't available when I bought the RC390 and I had a feeling the R3 might lead the pack. The RC390 is also very light and is a striking feature. Lovely dashboard on the R3. Very important to have a clear interface. Are you Jeff Bridges' grandson? Exciting times for motorcycling as at last this gap is being filled.

    Don't worry Kirito, just give your bikes a few thousands miles to really break in and you won't be let down. I have 4k on mine and now love IT! Its not a screaming motor at all, try a high revving inline 4, those are screaming motors and sound like a angry blender to me. I've tried the FZ07 and did not like it much, lack of fairing is the main thing and the motor seemed to be more boring to me cause too much low end torque.

    Came really close to purchasing one of these brand new, but since I'm just a 20 year old "kid" I was never taken seriously at the dealerships. One guy laughed in my face when I said I'd want to test ride before purchasing, then I saw someone else take one out for a test ride minutes later, with that guy helping them out.
    Needless to say, I went the complete opposite direction and got a 2009 WR250X, and have had endless amounts of fun on it both on and off the road.
    Maybe I'll get an R3 in the next few years.
